Chapter 2 – Sesshomaru…
Sesshomaru walked as a lone figure deep within his own thoughts. His pace was slow and un-reactive. Several steps behind him were Jaken, his impish assistant, Ah-Un, his demon pet, and Rin, his human ward. Jaken scowled as he walked, fed up with Rin’s singing. Rin set atop of Ah-Un happily singing her latest song, “Lord Sesshomaru’s in my heart, and maybe there’s room for Jaken.” It was becoming night as the small group traveled opposite of the main path soon to head in the direction of the mountains.
Suddenly, Sesshomaru began to notice a very faint smell. So faint that neither Jaken nor Ah-Un had picked up on it, but it was there. Sesshomaru followed the scent up to a clearing near a wooded forest area. First the flower-filled spring caught his eye and he considered stopping for Rin. He figured that the girl would be hungry and also possibly like to play in the area. His curiosity peaked towards the scent, Sesshomaru walked toward the spring following it. Once at the spring, Sesshomaru allowed the smell to lead him to a forest area beyond its waters.
When Rin noticed the spring and the flowers, she giggled as she jumped down from her ride and began picking flowers.
“You foolish girl! We don't have time for this!” Jaken began to fuss.
“But I'm only picking these for Lord Sesshomaru.” Rin continued.
“Lord Sesshomaru isn't interested in anything so trivial. He’s beyond all...Whaaaa?!” Jaken screamed as he realized that Sesshomaru had walked ahead. He glanced back one time at Rin, then ran ahead to catch up with his Master figuring that Rin would catch up eventually... She ALWAYS DOES.
“Please don't leave me master, Wait!” Jaken whined, but Sesshomaru forged on towards the woods.
As he approached the woods, he felt a barrier of demon power covering it. This barrier was also faint, and very weak, but enough to possibly sway a demon of lesser power. As Sesshomaru approached the barrier, the weak demon spell faded in his presence. He sniffed the escaping winds and caught the scent of Inuyasha and his wench. He also caught the scent of another demon. This scent was one like an animal in heat and it riled a feeling deep within him. Jaken walked up beside Sesshomaru and also sniffed the air,
“That is the scent of your half brother, Inuyasha.” He sniffed again, “And his wench,” He sniffed a third time, “...but I am unfamiliar with the other scent, My Lord.”
Sesshomaru frowned. He wondered what could be going on in those woods. Behind him, Rin happily splashed around in the waters of the spring. She flung water on to Ah-un who in turn growled a little.
“That girl…” Jaken began but was interrupted by Sesshomaru.
“Rin, stay here with Ah-Un.”
“Yes my Lord.” Rin called back to Sesshomaru in her bright and cheery voice. She continued playing in the water.
Sesshomaru then turned and began to walk into the woods interested as to what he would find.
