Watching
The Inuyasha characters are property of Rumiko Takahashi.
**2 years earlier**
Death. It smelled of death, but for some reason the scent was travelling. Sesshomaru looked around until he caught sight of the crimson and white robes of a miko passing through the forest. Where the woman walked, soul-snatchers followed. An undead human. What could be more pathetic? There was something about this woman Sesshomaru didn't trust to leave her alone so easily.
Maintaining his distance, he stalked the miko, until he saw her walk into a clearing. He decided to remain beside a tree and continued to watch her. The pallid beauty slowly sauntered to a well, beside which was a contemplative Inuyasha.
"Inuyasha," the woman spoke. Inuyasha looked up with a vulnerability that Sesshomaru never knew existed within his half-brother.
"Kikyo!"
"Why do you wait for her? She's not meant for this world. She's not meant for you..." Kikyo knelt down, eye-level with the hanyou. She lifted up a hand, which she gently placed on Inuyasha's cheek.
"Do you remember us?," she asked as she stroked his skin and looked deep into his eyes.
"Kikyo," he started softly. "I could never forget about us. About our love." Inuyasha was interrupted by a passionate, yet cold, kiss. He closed his eyes and allowed himself to sink deep within the kiss.
Sesshomaru watched intently. Could this be the legendary miko? The same miko who had fallen in love with his brother? The same miko who had sealed Inuyasha to a tree for 50 years, before another unsealed him?
Inuyasha began to pull away and was met with a pained look.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I promise to get your revenge, I will...but I'm with Kagome now. You have to understand. Things have changed..." Kikyo stood up and began to dissapear back into the forest.
Sesshomaru watched Kikyo. He had never seen such a heartbroken, lost soul before. All because of his half-breed brother. Why anyone would come back from the dead and continue to pine for the likes of him (even if it was a human) was beyond Sesshomaru's grasp.
"Pathetic," Sesshomaru said to himself and left the sight of the reunion.
