Chapter 2

He thought of the raptor demon that had done all the damage to the village the other day.

{Flashback}

It awkwardly twisted the words around its giant beak, “Half breed, where is the miko who holds the Shikon no Tama? She travels with you. Give me the shards and I will let her live.”

“Like hell bird brains” He yelled and grabbed Tetsaiga from his waist. InuYasha leapt in the air and met the giant bird with a vicious slash of his blade. Feathers flew as the Tetsaiga grazed the Raptor’s left wing. The demon dropped down to the ground but didn’t stay long before it jumped back at InuYasha.

Sango and Kilala had come running at the commotion and swiftly transformed, ready to fight their new enemy. Miroku stood on the ground holding the beads wrapped around his wind tunnel tightly. There wasn’t any way he could let it loose with Sango and Kilala and InuYasha up there too.

“InuYasha ” Sango screamed.

The Raptor had managed to duck past the Tetsaiga and grab onto InuYasha’s waist, piercing his torso with his talons. He gave the hanyou a shake and threw InuYasha’s body down. He crashed through the roof of a hut below.

Sango threw Hiraikotsu and jumped on Kilala’s back. They took off after the Raptor as it dodged her weapon. Catching her boomer rang, Sango got ready to throw it again. Kilala flew closer to the demon and roared fire at him.

InuYasha tore out of the broken hut and braced himself. He was breathing heavily and blood from his wounds seeped down his haori. He shook his head angrily and pulled Tetsaiga in front of him. He balanced on the balls of his feet and yelled to the demon in the sky, “Raptor, say goodbye. I’m done playing.”

With that warning, Kilala and the exterminator landed, leaving the Raptor demon in the sky alone. A terrible sound was coming from the bird. It sounded like laughter.

“Kaze no Kizu!”

The Raptor stopped laughing as the fierce attack caught him full on. His body disintegrated and pieces of demonic bird fell on the village, causing more damage. Kilala growled and took cover in a broken hut, but the others were soon covered in guts.

Sighing, Sango made here way off to the river. “I hope Kagome gets back soon.”

{End flashback}

InuYasha squinted at the cooking fire in Kaede’s hut. He had eaten his way through 4 bowls of stew and was impatiently waiting for Kaede to fill his bowl with more. Miroku and Sango sat across from him enjoying their supper.

They had put in a long and boring day waiting for Kagome so they could get on with the hunt for the jewels. Well, he had found it long and boring. And besides, having the old hag bandage his wounds the other day wasn’t the same as if Kagome had done it. Kagome would have fussed and asked him ‘if it hurt’, about a billion times. Her hands wouldn’t have been hard and calloused either. They would have been soft from all that goop she was forever rubbing on them. He’d never admit it to her, but he really liked the feel of her small hands on him, even if the only time he really got to feel them was when he was injured. Maybe he should get injured more often. That way she’d be touching him all the time.

InuYasha jerked his ears and thought, “Ya right. I must have lost more blood than I thought.”

Sango and the monk and even the brat had been busy helping the villagers rebuild after the Raptor attack earlier in the week. “Damn.” He thought, “Those demons are getting too aggressive. We can’t stay here much longer. They know we travel with Kagome and she has the jewel shards. She’s just too obvious,” he snorted.

“Did ye say something, InuYasha?” Kaede asked. The hanyou grabbed at the bowl she was holding out to him and began to shove food in his mouth at an alarming pace.

“InuYasha. Ye can not eat like that and not get sick. Slow down.” Kaede sat serenely next to him with her own stew, and blew on the morsel held between her chopsticks. She knew he would leave as soon as he finished eating. With Kagome returning in the morning he would keep watch by the Bone Eater’s well. The only reason he wasn’t there now was the fact that he was starving after having put in a full two days work rebuilding with the others and injured at that.

Kaede smiled, although he wouldn’t admit it, he was having a hard time staying away from the well and the girl who traveled through it.

When he emptied his bowl this time, he got to his feet and left the hut.

“Bye InuYasha.” Miroku called.

“Is he going to sit by the well all night? Why doesn’t he just go and get her? She’s never mad for longer than a minute.” Shippo asked confused.

Miroku steepled his fingertips and looked sagely at Shippo. “He misses Kagome-sama. But he doesn’t want her to know.”

Sango snorted then gazed at the monk. “If he hadn’t eaten so much tonight, I’d say he was missing ramen, but...”

“He should just tell her he likes her.” Shippo said, ”InuYasha is such a baka.”
