Chapter 2
Shadows of Darkness
Part 2
Sesshomaru jerked back in response to her, she moved so quickly, he hardly knew she was moving by time she had removed her hand.
"What... What have you done?"
He asked reaching up to touch it. He half gasped half growled when sparks burnt his hand, enough to make him jerk it back.
Kagome smirked.
"Wouldn't you like to know."
She watched as the red collar faded into his skin.
She was suddenly right in front of him, and he jerked.
She reached up and set her cheek against his, letting her lip's and breath dance over his ear.
"Inuyasha is on your land, what ever will you do?"
She then full on passionatly kissed him.
Sesshomaru found his mouth had fallen open, easily under her assult, even as his eyes widened and he tensed and leaned away from her.
Then, without warning, she was gone. Sesshomaru stood their for a minute, the breeze harsly whipped his cloth's around, he blinked out of his stuper and reached up to find the collar gone and no harmful sparks burned his hand.
He frowned.
"What the hell did that Fire Cat do to me?"
Kagome was a fire cat, but not one your picturing. Her true form is a giant cat looking wolf, it had deep blood red fur and three wolf looking tail's.
Instead of two eye's, she had fout, her normal two, which are a deep glowing purple, above them and off
to the side a bit, were smaller, deep purple eye's. In the middle of her forehead, a single blue circle.
She was Sesshomaru's size, but her power was far greater.
She had the body of a cat, but the chest and head of a wolf. Her paw's looked like, wolf paw's, large and thick with claw's.
She had a single, darker red strip going down the middle of her back.
Kagome glanced back at him, where she stood, just outside of his line of sight. She watched him.
When she first met him, she thought of him as a visious, jealous older brother. That slowly turned into nothing but Inuyasha's older brother, who wanted nothing but the Tetsuiga.
When she died, and was reborn as the Death Queen, and ruler of the Underworld, she began to think.
He was so beautiful, and so powerful.
In their true form's, she was sure she could beat him, but she just mgiht have to watch herself. She pissed him off, so their next meeting, she just might have to put up some sort of guard.
The jealoud odler brother of Inuyasha, slowly merged into something more, something she never understood.
Sesshomaru was no longer an enemy to her, now, he was a potential mate, one that would prove to be very useful and very potent.
His rank, and power prooved one fact to her. He would sire powerful pup's. Not only would they be powerful, but they would also be full blooded, and would be beautiful. With her dark beauty and his light, rough beauty, she had no doubt in her mind that their first child would be the most presious to her.
That got her thinking about her own pup, the pup she left in solitutde, for safety.
Looking at the sky, she debated she had at least an hour, before Kuro met up with Inuyasha.
She sniffed and found the mountian side easily, taking a running start she made it to the cliff side in less that five minute's.
She walked over to it and set her hand on the rough surface.
The surface began to glow, until it made an arch like door.
When the fire dispursed, their was a door way, and she steeppd through it.
"Akura."
She said simply, before being hit with a mass of black and purple. She huffed, but stood her ground.
"Akura."
She smiled, as the pup wrapped her legs around Kagome's hip and her arm's around her neck. Kagome stroked her head, closing her eye's.
"I didn't think you'd come back, it's been almost a year, mama."
Kagome sighed.
"I am sorry."
"I know, mama, I forgive you."
Kagome knelt down and hugged her pup tightly.
"When will I be able to play outside?"
Kagome smiled.
"Come, you may play outside."
Kagome let her pup go and grabbed her hand, leading her outside.
When the setting sun light hit her, Kagome nearly forgot how beautiful she was.
She had long, wavy black hair, deep purple and red eye's.
The purple bled into red, around her slit pupil.
She had pale skin, and a long black tail swung from behind her, the same as Kagome's.
A cat tail.
Her fawn ear's were peirced three time's, in each ear, gold.
She wore a beautiful black kimono with a purple sash and bow.
Kagome sat down at the base of a tree and watched as her pup frolicked around the open feild, picking flower's and chasing lightning bug's.
That's when the time hit her, she looked around, the moon was high in the sky.
She contimplated astrail projecting herself to Kuro, but then her child would have no protection.
"Akura."
She called standing up, the little girl, nearly ten yeard away stood at attention.
Smiling, she threw her flower's over her shoulder and ran into her mother's open arm's.
"You have to go?"
Kagome nodded, setting the pup on her hip and walking towards the cliff.
"I will be back for you, Akura."
"When?"
Akura asked, yawning, resting her head on kagome's shoulder. Kagome smiled and kissed her temple.
"Soon, my light, very soon."
Kagome tucked in the sleeping pup and left, sealing the cliff and moved, faster than sound and light.
In a point second she arrived at the battle scene.
Kuro was bleeding, hard, and panting.
"Kuro!"
She called, jumping to his side, easily blocking Kikyo's arrow, that was headed for Kuro's head.
She caught it and threw it aside, without thinking.
She rushed to her fallen friend and glared at Inuyasha with fake anger.
"What have you done?!"
Inuyasha blinked.
"What have I done?! He attaked us!"
Kagome washed a hand over her, black mist gently laid over Kuro, healing him instantly, seeing as he was part of her.
She stood.
"He was not supposed to he was merely supposed to stop you and hold you here."
Inuyasha frowned.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Kat, I am a messenger. Kagome wished me to tell you something."
"Kagome?"
Everyone but Kikyo gasped.
"How do you know Kagome?!"
Inuyasha roared, stepping forward with Tetsuiga.
Kagome lifted her hand.
"She saved me once, and in favor I will act out her dying wish."
"How do we know that you arn't lying?"
Miroku asked, glaring at the demoness. Kagome looked at him.
"Simple."
She reached into her pocket and pulled out Kagome's half of the Shikon Jewel Shard that she died with.
"How do we know that you simply didn't take it form her, killed her and then plan on killing us?"
Sango asked, stepping up next to Miroku, Shippou on his shoulder.
"If I were lying, would not the jewel shard be tainted, seeing as it would have been taken in a blood fight."
"She's got a point."
Kikyo said, looking at Inuyasha.
"What other proof, demoness."
Miroku said, taking out his sutra's. Kagome nodded.
"Very well, Sango. Kagome told me of Kohaku, and she wish's you the best of luck, and she's sorry she could not be their to help you. Shippou, Kagome said she was sorry that she couldn't keep her promise, to watch you grow up and be the loving mother you deserve. Miroku, keep your hands to yourself, and she's sure you will find love right under your nose. Kikyo."
She said turning to Kikyo.
"Kagome wants you to have this."
She tossed the half jewel shard at Kikyo who caught it, then looked at the jewel in her hands.
"She also told me to ask you if you got the soul she gave to you, in which I see you have. She also wish's that you and Inuyasha live happily. Inuyasha, Kagome's dying wish."
Inuyasha knew, in his heart that the demoness before him was telling the truth, the moment she told Kagome's word to Sango. As she went on, Inuyasha knew in his soul, that Kagome had meant every last word, when it came ot him, his heart was already in shreds again, just by remebering the leith little girl he loved so dearly.
"Inuyasha, Kagome's dying wish, was to know the taste of your lips one last time, but seeinas she she cannot do that, she simply asked that I join your group and ensure you safety. Ensure that you defeat Naraku and come out alive, where, she will have one last time to show herself to you, before her soul is completely passed over."
"Kagome's soul still wander's the earth?"
Kikyo asked.
"No."
Kagome sighed.
(A/N: Ok, from now on, if Kagome is by herself or with Kuro, I'll refer to her as Kagome, but if she's with someone, I'll refer to her as simply Kat, got it? Good.)
"Kagome's soul is in my land."
"Your land?"
Sango asked, Kat nodded.
"Aa, I am the Queen of th Underworld, the giver of death and the blancer of life."
"Why is Kagome's soul in the Underworld to begin with?"
"When I said Kagome saved my life, I was not being entierly true with you. Kagome's soul, that was not given to Kikyo, was planted into my body to create me. In a sense, Kagome granted me life when hers expired."
"So, in a sense, you are Kagome."
Kikyo said, gripping her bow a bit tighter, Kat noticed this with amusment.
"In a sense, but no. I am not Kagome. I am Kagome as much as the rain falls the the river run's. Both are essentail, and both are of one unit, but are nothing alike. The rain is formed in the sky, within the clouds, and the river, used to be part of the rain, but now lays dormant. Both are alike, but both are very different."
"I see."
Kikyo nodded, letting her bow relax in her hand. Kat knew she'd have problem's with the miko, and decided to let everything the miko said and did go until she was fully accepted in the role of the group.
"I have something for you anyway's, Inuyasha."
Kat moved forward and held out a scroll.
"Kagome wrote this to you, but I cast a spell on it. If your heart is true, you will be able to read the letter's, if your heart is false to Kagome's, the scroll will burn in your hand's. So in a sense, if you do not return the deep feeling's Kagome had for you, the scroll will burn and you will never know Kagome's last words to you."
Inuyasha nodded and stuffed the scroll into his haroi.
"Fine, your in. But I want to make one thing clear to you. Me and Kikyo have the say, that means what we say goes."
Kat nodded.
"Of course."
"Now, what is this creature you have?"
Kikyo asked. Kuro growled.
"This is Kuro, he is a wolf dog, born of my flesh."
Kikyo nodded and walked over to it, Kat watched with uneasy eyes.
Kikyo kneeed before Kuro, who watched her with fire in his eye's.
Kikyo held out her hand, Kuro stared at her. Kikyo gently cupped the wold dogs chin and massaged it, moving up and over his jaw to stroke his head. Kuro closed his eyes and leaned into her touch.
Kat felt a burning jealousy run through her.
*She took Inuyasha's love form me, and now she's gonna take Kuro's!*
It was stupid, and she knew it wasn't true. Kuro was part of her, and loyal to only her. Kuro would never leave her for another, especially Kikyo.
Kikyo was now using both her hand's, scratching just behind both of Kuro's ear's.
She smiled and smooth his ears back and stood.
"It is a lovly creature."
Kat nodded.
"Yes, very intelligent and strong."
Kuro looked at Kagome, she had never prased him before, especially in public.
Kagome saw the joy in his eyes and looked away as if nothing had happened.
"Inuyasha, you do know your in your brother's land's."
Inuyasha looked at her.
"How do you know my brother?"
"I know just about everything Kagome does. After all, I was created from a peice of her soul."
Inuyasha nodded.
"I know, that fight with your wolf dog, brought us just past the border."
Kat looked over them all, for the first time, analyzing them.
Sango looked pretty beat up, a couple tears in her uniform signaled that she was fighting. Miroku and Shippou were free of cut's and scrapes of any kind. Inuyahsa looked to be the worst, most likly because he jumped right in and told everyone else to stay put.
His kimono was ripped and bloody, his hair was tossled and his face was dirty.
Kikyo was a little dirty, but she didn't look like she just fought for her life.
"How long till you think he know's we were in his land?"
Sango asked, Inuyasha shrugged.
"Probably already know's, might as well start going."
"But the moon is high in the sky, shalnt we rest till morning?"
Kat asked, Inuyasha frowned at her.
"Didn't I just say we head out?"
Kat snarled, her purple eyes flashing. But her mouth stayed shut, out of respect for the hanyou.
Which she held very little, but the respect she did hold for him, she held dear.
Kat walked over to Kuro and looked at him.
"This might have been a bad idea."
She spoke softly, Kuro looked up at her.
"How so? Everything seem's fine to me."
"To you it would. I will not take such rude orders from a boy, much longer, Kuro."
Kuro nodded.
"Ah, your used to being the Queen and getting what ever she want's."
"No, more like I don't take order's from no one."
"Exactly as I said."
Kagome snarled down at him. Kuro smiled.
"Just a little longer, then we'll return to the Underworld."
"Yes, Naraku will soon fall and I will be able to leave this place in peace, without having to worry about one of them dying at his claw's."
Kuro nodded.
"For now, suck it up. It'll be worth it in the end."
Kagome watched as Kuro ran to catch up with the departing group. Kagome looked up at the moon.
*One day, Akura, you'll have all the open feild's you wish to play in, until then. You must remain a secret to all here, less Naraku find you. One day, we'll be together forever and maybe, just maybe, you'll have a father and a sister or brother, or two.*
She looked away and began to follow the group.
"Until then, my love, you must be patient."
She whispered.
~
Kagome and Kuro had slept under a big oak tree, Miroku and Sango slept on the other side of the fire, along with Shippou and Kilala. Inuyasha and Kikyo slept up in the tree's above them.
Kagome had to admit, weither they knew it or not, they had all, distanced themself's from her, meaning they were not completely comfrotable around her, and didn't trust her completely.
A small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth as she remembered the night's when, extremely cold, Sango and Miroku would huddle, with Kilala, in her full form, between them.
Shippou slept with her in her sleeping bag and Inuyasha would sleep right next to her, in a sitting position.
To her, those time's were presious, it was like Miroku and Sango had their part of the camp and her and Inuyasha had their's.
Kagome hand't slept at all that night, not needing sleep as her human form did.
Kuro suddenly lifted his head.
"What is it?"
Kagome whispered.
"Something is coming."
Kagome stood up and grabbed her sword. Kuro stood as well. Kagome lifted her head and sniffed.
"It's Sesshomaru, but he's not alone. A girl, maybe the age of ten is with him, with a toad demon and a two headed dragon."
"You know all this by smell?"
She looked over with cold purple eye's and a frown to see Inuyasha set Kikyo down on the ground from his grasp.
Kat didn't answer and turned to look where she smelt Sesshomaru coming.
"Are you deaf?"
Inuyasha growled, Kat looked back over to him, with a lazy look, but her eyes blazed with cold, frozen hatred.
Inuyasha's ears pinned back as a flash of Kagome, ready to sit him, flashed in his head. He shook his head to clear the image and snarled.
"Woman!"
No sooner that did the words leave is mouth did he find himself pressed tightly to the tree he had been sleeping.
Kikyo gasped, she didn't make a sound, she didn't even seen her move, all she saw was Kat take a step and she was gone. Looking over her shoulder, as her hair fell back into place, she saw Kat, she had Inuyasha pinned up to the tree, her sord to his throat. She was stunned, she couldn't move.
"Listen to me, half breed."
Kat seethed, her fangs bared.
"If you don't want me to kill you, then I suggest that you chill out with the order's. I am a queen, you don't have to treat me like one, but just remeber, my home land is the dead land. I can kill you and torture your soul for the rest of eternity."
Inuyasha gulped, his adam apple scraping lgihty against her blade.
She released him, knowing his pride wouldn't allow him to speak.
She sheathed her sword.
"Sesshomaru will be here in eaxtly an hour. Be ready."
She said simply and walked over to Kuro.
Inuyasha rubbed his throat as Kikyo rushed over to him and hugged him, he wrapped an arm around her and stared at Kat who was glaring ice cold daggers at Kikyo. Then she looked up at him, with the same expression and turned away, walking into the forest with her black wolf dog.
"Where is she going?"
Kikyo asked, Inuyasha was still shocked. The look she gave Kikyo, was very similar to the look of pure hatred, jealousy and anger that Kagome usualy gave when looking at her.
This time however, no jealousy, only rage and hate. What shocked im even more, was the look she gave him.
The look that she gave Kikyo was nothing compaired to the look of pure rage and hatred that she gave him.
He couldn't say for sure, but for a second, it was Kagome looking at them, and not this Kat, woman that just left camp.
"Inuyasha?"
Inuyasha looked down at her, then gently move dher away.
"Stay here, I'll be back in a second."
Kikyo watched as he bound into the tree's.
~
Kagome stood before a river, looking at her reflection, Kuro behind her, laying down, but in an alert position.
"What's the matter, Kitten?"
Kagome snarled, but said nothing, sure that Kuro herd her threatening hiss.
He did, but that didn't stop him.
"When will you retrive, Akura? Will you tell the other's?"
"Of her?"
Kagome asked, walking into the river, removing her armor and the train behind her, along with the haning cloth for her glove's.
She threw them onto the bank and kneeled in the water.
Kuro knew better than to ask, but that didn't stop him from wonder.
"Kagome."
He said, she turned and looked at him. Then her eyes shot to the urrounding forest.
"Kuro."
She snarled, the wolf dog understood his mistake easily and stood.
"Come out."
Kagome said, walking out of the stream and onto the bank.
When the figured dropped from the tree line, Inuyasha walked out.
Kagome frowned.
"How dare you follow me, like some lost dog."
"Stop it Kagome."
He said, his bangs covering her eyes. Kagome snarled and spat to the side.
"I don't know what you're talking about, but if you use that human's name on me again I will not hesitate in slaying you."
He lifted his head and reached into his kimono and pulled out the scroll, it was open, he held it open for her to see. Her word's, he'd read them and the paper didn't burn.
No emotion crossed her face, even though, inside, what ever of her was left as human, was overjoyed, yet sad.
She was crying inside, because Inuyasha did love her, as much as she loved him. But it was to late. Part of her was overjoyed by both fact's.
He was happy, she could do nothing now.
"You have Kikyo."
Kagome whispered, Inuyasha looked right at her.
"What really happened to you?"
Kagome, still emotionless stared at him.
"I was coming back from the well, the eve of my death. Naraku found me, I had no idea where you were. I remember screaming your name as he..."
She stopped, for tears now rolled down her stoic face, her eyes cold and hard as usual, but tears betrayed her cool, collected mask.
"He raped me."
Inuyasha gasped as Kagome closed her eye's, letting her mask fall, along with the spell she had over her feature's.
It was the same Kagome he remebered, only older. She looked the same and smelled the same.
"You..."
He couldn't move.
"I herd a voice, that sounded as if it were many talking at once. He offered me a second change, a new body. I accepted, whipering the word death, after thinking, finally, I'll be in peace. As it so happen's, it altered my fate. In saying the word death, completed my roll, as the Queen of the Underworld. I found myself floating over city's of red, blood and corpse's lay strewn over the street's, with beat's flew and rampaged around. When I touched down before my castle, made out of black marble. I moved as if my body knew what it was doing, even if I didn't. I found a throne room, I found myself wearing this, as soon as I sat down, though. I knew everything, I knew what I was, what I was to do, what I had become."
She opened her eyes and looked at him. Her mask now back in place and the tears stopped.
"I soon began to grow heavy with a child, Inuyasha. I had to give birth in a mountian side, all by myself. I retired to that cliff for more than five year's, to rasie the child properly to where it could handle it's self without me their all the time. Being a full blooded demon, she grew beautifuly. I returned to my world, where a day here is a year their. When I returned, my kingdome has gone to the runied, mass of distruction it had been when I first came their. I was furous and restabled my troop's and forces. By the time I was done, I realized my mistake, Akura could not survive in the world of the dead, for she was not part of it, even though it coarsed her vein's. I simply went to her every five year's in my time, which out her would be five day's. I decided to come a vist you all, while on my way to seeing my daughter."
"You... You have Naraku's child?"
Inuyasha asked, Kagome nodded, as if daring him to say something about it.
"Kagome... I."
"Don't worry about it Inuyasha. I no longer feel the human emotion such as love, I have also went nearly three decade's without it. I'm fine."
"But... I.. I feel so lost. I can't help you."
He smiled.
"Hell, I feel empty, the little girl I loved so dearly, that I put my life on the line every day for her, has grown and became her own master. I can't help you any longer."
She nodded.
"That is why I have come back, so I can help you for a change. Once Naraku is dead, it will be the last you will ever see of me."
"But why?"
"To much time, here, in this land, my power is sapped and I will die."
Inuyasha gasped.
"Why?"
Kagome turned and looked at her reflection again.
"Because, I am no longer of this world, Inuyasha. My place is on my throne, in my world, the world of the dead, of which I am."
"So... Then you weren't lying whe you said that you and Kagome were of the same essence, but completly different."
"Correct. I may be the Kagome you knew, and onced loved, but I am no longer that weak human girl. Now I am a powerful demoness Queen. Queen of the dead."
She turned to face him.
"Even if Kikyo was not in the picture, and you wanted me to be with you, forever at your side. I would have to decline."
He looked down. She had changed so much. She was colder than Sesshomaru, and more deadly than both him and Naraku. She was nothing like the Kagome he remebered.
"Why... Why did you have to leave?"
Inuyasha asked, falling to his knee's, feeling his heart break as if it were the first time hearing her death again. Kagome watched him, emotionlessly, except for the tear's that swam in her eye's, but she refused to let them fall, having already cried before him once.
"Why did you have to leave?! Why?!"
He cried, slaming his fists into the ground. Kagome stood their, not knowing what to do. For the first time, in over three decade's, she didn't know how to react to him. She didn't know how to comfort him, when back when she was a human, she knew, instantly what to do, she knew what to say and how to say it.
"I am sorry. I called for you, but you never came."
Kagome said, in a monotone.
He looked up at her and Kagome gasped. Tears rolled freely down his cheek's.
"I'm... I'm sorry."
He whispered, his voice cracking, Kagome had to look away.
She herd him move, but she refused to look and closed her eyes.
She felt his hand on her shoulder.
"Your dying wish, you said, was to feel my lips against yours one last time."
Kagome nodded.
"I also said, once Naraku was defeated, the Kagome you feel in love with, will see you one last time."
Inuyasha nodded and removed his hand.
"I understand."
With that, the half demon walked away.
"Inuyasha."
He stoped at her voice, she opened her eyes and looked at him.
"Speak not a word to the other's about this... Please?"
Inuyasha nodded, then without a word he left.
~
Inuyasha, once in the safety of the forest, took the scroll out again.
Inuyasha,
If you are reading this, then you msot likly know, I am dead. I wrote this, over a year ago. As a miko, Kaede tought me many thing's, I saw my death and will do hardly anything to stop it. Why? Because I knew it had to be, I also saw what I would become and what I would have to do. Don't be mad at me Inuyasha, I love you, so much that I had to let you go. I also saw you and Kikyo, with two baby boy's at your feet, and you happily teaching them, as a human, how to play with a ball, while Kikyo watched on with a rounded stomach, also a human, not a miko or the undead preistess that tried to kill you and me.
Anyway, the reason I'm writing this. I love you so much Inuyasha, I have not the words to describe it, so I'll make it short.
Roses are red, Violet are blue
No one can love another, as much as I love you
Kagome Hirugashi
Inuyasha folded the scroll up again with a small smile.
"I love you too Kagome, and I always will."
A single tear fell from his cheek as he tuked the scroll saftly into his haroi sleeve and walked into camp.
~
Kagome stared, evily and cold at Kuro, who huddled under the tree he was once lounging. He was shaking and had his tail between his leg's.
"You messed up big time, wolf dog."
She whispered, walking forward, her blade drawn. Kuro swallowed, knowing he should have known better.
"Woman."
She turned to see Sesshomaru, and Kuro silently thanked, who ever the dog was, that he could have a little longer and think of something to redirect Kagome's wrath off him, at least.
"What do you want?"
She snapped, he frowned at her.
"Your the human bitch that followed my brother around."
