It's Gonna Be A Long Year.
It was sixth period, and Inuyasha’s face was still hot with embarrassment from his morning catastrophe. Even Mrs. Berkley, his 4th period professor, had suggested he go visit the nurse’s office because “he didn’t look so good”. Like he had asked the woman what she thought about how he looked. But he couldn’t muster anger at her (she was a homely and Motherly figure after all) so he obliged and missed half of the class to receive a perfectly good bill of health.
He drummed the end of his pencil on his desk, staring at the blackboard without actually studying what it said. He couldn’t concentrate. So far, he had 2 classes with Kagome, and lunch as well. But each time he saw her, she was being hassled by a large group of people, and he hadn’t the chance to apologize for wasting her time before school.
At the moment, she was seated at the head of the classroom, watching out the window with a whimsical sigh. Inuyasha was bothered by how he couldn’t seem to take his eyes off her, especially when he knew he’d never talk to her again. Besides…it wasn’t like she looked that unique. Kikyou was near Kagome, and realizing he had slight trouble telling them apart seemed to have an annoying affect on Inuyasha. But he knew he wasn’t the only one who was having difficulty. By mistake, Kouga had hit on Kagome for a movie date, and to Inuyasha’s triumph, the beach lover received a great wallop on his head and a whole lot of ridicule. Miroku seemed to be the only one that was safe from being teased so far.
It was strange…her eyes seemed almost sad. Her lips were parted to allow her evident chewing habit, one finger gently put to the onslaught. She wasn’t paying attention at all to the classroom, but no one noticed. Inuyasha turned his gaze to the window as well, wondering just what she found so interesting. He laid his chin casually on his crossed arms, aware that it wasn’t such a good idea for him to relax…but he didn’t really stop himself. Finally, his amber-tinted eyes flicked back to her, observing the shallow pool of emotions that riddled her face. He could almost swear he saw…
The bell screamed into his drifting shadow dream, causing Inuyasha to wake with a start. He fell sideways out of his desk; books and papers scattering away from his flailing left arm. The right was limp…asleep from his nap. Luckily, most of the class had made a running start for the door seconds before the bell had actually rung, sparing the confused boy from more humiliation. He started to push himself up, scowling from his wounded pride, when two feet drifted in front of him. Twerewere neatly polished a glossy black that reflected his image back at him, and he winced somewhat at the dark bruise already blooming on his chin. That would be a lovely shade by tomorrow morning. He dared to let his optics travel up to the wearer, blushing when the short hem of a skirt came just above his head, and he jerked back, avoiding any perverted rumors. KagoKagome kneeled and confidently took his chin into her hands, stroking the wound with the exact fingertip she had been chewing on earlier. A spark of sensation ran down the length of Inuyasha’s spine, making his shiver. She giggled and then tapped the end of his nose, before reaching around her and retrieving all his dumped belonging for him. The boy could do no more than briefly touch his face where her palms had grazed, blinking stupidly. After only a few moments, she ha all all of his textbooks back to him and smiled, saying nothing. Then, as though it was a normal occurrence, she stood, dusted herself off, and reached down to him. The fingers tricked his gaze, making him tilt his head wearily. For a moment he didn’t know what she wanted from him. Then common sense rescued his locked brain function and he gave a sharp gasp, taking her hand in his. It easily dwarfed her own, and she seemed intrigued by this, until her grip slid away like a trickle of water.
Was it just him, or was she getting slightly redder in the face? Inuyasha’s mouth dropped agape somewhat until he winced and tapped at his new bruise. His eyes shut for a moment as he searched for any other pains or aches, and when he opened them, the last of Kagome’s hair fluttered out the doorway. Instantly he felt tired and irritable, as he had come along two completely awkward situations in the same day with this new girl, and she hadn’t really addressed him about either. She must have thought he was completely pathetic and felt sorry for him…thus why she helped him out.
A small groan suffered from his mouth as he turned and tugged his books to his chest, hugging them to suffocate his rapid heartbeat. As he walked out, he made haste toward the bulletin board, where he picked up several school transfer papers. He stopped and studied them for a minute, trying to find out how quickly he could move, and whether or not there was a number for the witness protection program on the brochure. After tonight, he knew he’d need a new name, address, and phone number. Suddenly he yearned that he had paid more attention in French class last year, since he felt it might be necessary he move out of this country as well.
He glanced at a large poster of a smiling group of kids with the phrase, “ We’d love it if you stayed!” before he snorted and turned away, making a break for the doors. “ Well I’d love you more ou wou would’ve kept her out of this school,” he muttered. This was going to be a long, long year.
As a matter of fact…it was going to be an extraordinarily long year.
[Writer] Aie! I'm so tired Z.z But I tried to get something up for people to read, just to get some ideas to get this thing going. True from my other story, this one is going to have some dark moments, but I'm also going to tie much more romance and comedy to lighten the mood, as suggested by a past reviewer. So far, there's nothing tramatic besides the typical teenage chaos ^_^ I hope my new modern theme will do alright! [End Writer]
