Torn Between Two Brothers

A/N: We jump forward so that Kagome is seven months pregnant. She has been having a few complications with her pregnancy and goes into premature labor. Will the baby make it?

Morning arrived far too quickly for a now very pregnant Kagome. She had spent half the night waking up either to relieve her overactive bladder or because of her god awful heartburn. Kagome was now seven months along in her pregnancy and she was absolutely miserable. Her breasts were incredibly sore and were swelling quite a bit as well. Not to mention her very swollen ankles that she kept propped up on a pillow at night. Kagome stayed barefoot most of the time because wearing shoes hurt her feet too badly. She sat at her desk tapping one of her bare feet against the soft cream colored carpet in her office. Sango’s cheery voice came floating into the room from over the intercom. “Hey Kagome?”

“Yeah Sango?”

“A Mrs. Nobunaga is here to see you.” Kagome groaned to herself before pressing the button on her phone to reply.

“Send her in.”

“Okay Kagome.” Soon Sesshomaru’s mother came barging into Kagome’s office not even bothering to knock. Kagome didn’t try to hide her scowl of annoyance.

“Can I help you Mrs. Nobunaga?” She quickly planted herself in one of the large brown leather chairs across from Kagome.

“Yes Kagome, you can help me.”

“What do you want?”

“I want you to agree that you won’t marry Sesshomaru.”

“What?”

“When my son asks you to marry him, simply turn him down.”

“Why would I do that?”

“Because you and I both know that Sesshomaru isn’t truly thinking clearly.”

“Are you trying to imply that Sesshomaru doesn’t really love me?” Mrs. Nobunaga began to chuckle softly.

“Come now Kagome, you can’t really believe that Sesshomaru honestly loves you? You and I both know that the only man that loves you is your husband Inuyasha.”

“Mrs. Nobunaga, Inuyasha and I are divorced, he’s no longer my husband. Why are you even here?”

“To keep you from further disgracing the Nobunaga family you little tramp! You have shamed Inuyasha with your atrocious infidelity and somehow brainwashed Sesshomaru into thinking he’s in love with you.”

“Get out Mrs. Nobunaga, I don’t have to listen to this.”

“You need to just remove yourself from my sons’ lives so that they may both be free to move on.” Kagome pushed herself to her feet angrily.

“And what about this baby? She needs her father! Don’t you even give a damn about your own grandchild?”

“Of course I do! That is why I’m going to see to it that you are removed from her life permanently.”

“You bitch! No one is taking this baby from me, do you understand? Now get the hell out of my office!” Mrs. Nobunaga immediately jumped to her feet at Kagome’s harsh words. She turned and headed towards the door but not leaving without making an attempt to have the last word.

“That baby will grow up in the Nobunaga mansion, I shall see to it personally! No grandchild of mine will be raised by a tramp such as yourself!”

“Go to hell you selfish old hag!” Mrs. Nobunaga gasped in shock at Kagome’s outburst but decided it was best she leave now before Sesshomaru found out she had come to see Kagome. Kagome stood there with her palms pressermlyrmly against her desk. She was trembling she was so angry. Her breaths were quick and shallow her chest heaving with each one she took. “That hateful bitch! I can’t believe she had the nerve to come here and threaten me! I swear to God I’ll kill her if she thinks she’s going to take my baby from me! I don’t care who the hell she thinks she is!”

Suddenly Kagome bent over her desk as a sharp stabbing pain surged through her abdomen. “Oh God!” She quickly pressed her intercom button. “Sango!”

“Yes Kagome?”

“Come in here please!”

“Right away Kagome.” Sango entered Kagome’s office to see her leaning over her desk in apparent discomfort. “Kagome, are you alright?”

“N-no something’s not right!” She winced as another stabbing pain shot through her. Then she felt something warm and wet begin to trickle down her inner thighs. Sango’s brown eyes grew wide as they noticed Kagome’s water had just broken.

“Oh Kagome, we have to get you to the hospital!”

“What’s happening Sango?”

You’re water just broke, the baby is on it’s way!”

“N-no that can’t be happening! It’s too soon, I’m only seven months pregnant!” Sango took Kagome by the hand and rushed her to the elevator. She hurried across the lobby and pulled Kagome to her car. Sango carefully eased Kagome into her navy blue Mitsubishi Eclipse and then cranked the car quickly. Sango made it to the hospital in under ten minutes. She quickly helped Kagome out of the car and helped her to the hospital lobby. An elderly nurse quickly approached them.

“Please help, she’s seven months pregnant and has just gone into premature labor!”

“Relax sweetheart, we’ll take care of everything.” The nurse helped Kagome into a wheel chair and quickly pushed her towards the nearest delivery room with Sango hastily following after her. Kagome was sobbing and trembling because she was terrified that she would lose her baby.

“Kagome, is there anything I can do for you?”

“Yes please call Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, I need them here with me!”

“Right away!” Sango immediately called Inuyasha and Sesshomaru to inform them that Kagome had gone into premature labor. Inuyasha had made it to the hospital first where he rushed to find Sango.

“Sango, how is she?”

“She’s going through really heavy contractions right now.”

“How did this happen? The baby wasn’t supposed to be here for another two months.” Sesshomaru glared when he saw his little brother standing outside Kagome’s room with Sango.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

“Kagome asked me to come.”

“Look you two, stop fighting, Kagome really needs both of you right now!” The brothers nodded and followed Sango into Kagome’s room. Kagome was half sitting up in bed sweating and crying. Sesshomaru rushed to her side immediately.

“How are you feeling kitten?”

“I’ve been better. Where’s Inuyasha?” Sesshomaru scowled at her mentioning of his younger brother.

“I’m here Kagome.” She gave him a tired smile as he came to stand beside her on the other side of the bed. The doctor’s came in and began scrubbing for the procedure. Kagome gave a shrill cry as her contractions began to worsen. A nurse lifted the bottom of her bla to to check her dilation.

“Doctor, she’s dilating very quickly. She’s already at nearly eight centimeters, we can’t give her an epidural it’s too late.” Quickly the doctors gathered around Kagome’s bed to begin the delivery. Kagome squeezed both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru’s hands as she pushed the baby out of her womb. She cried out as the baby’s head tore her entrance slightly. After one final push the baby was freed from Kagome’s womb and the doctor severed the umbilical cord quickly. A nurse hastily cleaned off the baby girl and placed a tiny white preemie diaper on her then wrapped her in a small pink blanket.

Kagome’s blue gray eyes burned with fresh tears as her tiny baby girl was placed in her arms. She was so small only weighing about for and a half pounds at the most. “Oh she’s so beautiful!”

“Yes Kagome, our little girl is perfect, just like her mother.” Inuyasha’s smile faded upon hearing Sesshomaru’s words. “So darling, what shall we call her?”

“Lyrie.”

“Lyrie Nobunaga? Yes, Lyrie is a beautiful name.” One of the doctors approached Kagome.

“Ms Nobunaga?”

“Yes doctor?”

“You are aware that your daughter requires a short stay in the hospital?”

“Oh yes, I want to make sure she’s healthy.”

“Yes of course. We will be placing her in intensive care because she’s a little small and we want to keep an eye on all of her vitals for a while.” Kagome handed her baby girl over to a nurse and watched as she was taken away to intensive care. Inuyasha squeezed Kagome’s hand.

“You did great Kagome, she’s beautiful.”

“Thank you Inuyasha.”

“What for? I didn’t do anything.”

“Thank you for just agreeing to be here for me after everything that happened between us.”

“I wouldn’t have missed this for anything Kagome, you’re still a big part of my life.” Sesshu scu scowled as he watched the pair with jealousy beginning to work it’s way into his veins. He didn’t think that Inuyasha had any right to be there at all but since Kagome had asked him to, there wasn’t much Sesshomaru could really do.

“Well little brother, I think it’s time we allowed Kagome to get some rest.” Inuyasha smirked at his older brother’s words. It was obvious that Sesshomaru hated him being here with Kagome but he decided he would humor Sesshomaru and let him have his way for now.

“You’re right, Kagome should rest. I’ll see you later Kagome.”

“Okay, take care Inuyasha.”

“I always do angel, I always do.” Sesshomaru gritted his teeth to keep from spitting out his coarse reply that was on the tip of his tongue just itching to slip out. Had Kagome not been there in the room he would have just came right out and said what was on his mind. However, he was not a fool and it was clear to him that she still had feelings for his bastard little brother. He hoped that eventually Inuyasha would no longer have a place in Kagome’s heart because he had no intention of having to constantly compete for her affections. He hadn’t spent all that time trying to win her away from Inuyasha only to have her run back into his clearly still very much open arms.
