Truth and Illness
Chapter Fifteen
She felt like she'd been punched in the chest. She'd only told one person that her name had been something other than what it was. Was it possible for them to be one in the same. Anxiety filled her, no he couldn't be the one. Only a few months had passed for her, it would be over five centuries for the fox she had saved. Shiori's words came to mind, 'He said something about being wounded and entering her womb.' She wasn't sure if she could turn around and answer. "My name is Sango."
"Then why did you lie to me?"
That confirmed it, it was him. "I had no idea who you were. Does it really matter why I lied to you?" She took a deep breath and turned around. He was staring right through her.
"I was told you died, let me rephrase that. I was told Kaede died by your husband no less."
"Kaede did die, two months before I found you."
"He also implied that his wife was dead." He focused on her face.
So, Miroku had believed that she was dead. Not that it mattered he was dead now and there was no way for her to return. "I see, why would you speak to him?"
"I happened to be by the village one day and spotted him. I was going to merely thank you once more. He informed me of your death."
"So now you know I didn't die, I should have but the well let me through for some reason. If you don't mind I'm going to head to bed." She needed to lay down and get some much needed rest. She watched him walk out the room and Kagome walk in after him.
"What was that all about?"
Sango grabbed the locket around her neck, "Remember the fox I told you I saved?"
"Yeah, the one that gave you the note you won't part with."
"It's Kurama. That is why he kept staring at me. I reminded him of myself. Guess he was kind of confused."
Kagome thought about it, "I could see that. Since you should have died centuries ago. Hmm, well is he still mad?"
"I don't know, don't care."
The bright morning sun was beaming in the window when Sango rolled over. Her back felt like it was on fire, a groan tore from her lips. She also had a headache from sitting up half the night thinking. She wasn't sure how to deal with the fact that Kurama was the fox from her past. Not that it mattered, he was just someone she had once saved. Not like he had been someone important to her. 'Then why do I still carry around the one thing he left me?'
There was a knock on the door causing Kagome to jerk awake. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes, "What time is it?"
"I don't know." Sango didn't feel like moving, any slight movement made her back hurt. "Wanna get the door?"
Kagome pulled her shorts on this time before opening the door. She smiled at the older woman, "Morning."
"Morning girls, I just wanted to let you know breakfast is ready. The boys are already in the kitchen eating."
"Okay, we'll be there in a few." Kagome didn't shut the door until the woman was gone. "I don't know about you but I'm starving." A loud thump caused her to turn her head. Sango was on the floor, "What's wrong?"
"I don't know, I got dizzy all of a sudden. My back feels like it's on fire."
"Let's get you back on the bed and I'll check it." Kagome helped her stand to her feet. She put her on the edge of the bed. "Lets get this shirt off."
Sango tried to raise her arms, it caused the muscles in her back to clench. "I can't lift my arms."
Kagome tried ripping the fabric, "I'm going to need to get some to cut this with. I'll see if there is anything in the room."
"Wait, help me to the bathroom. I'm going to be sick." Sango felt the knot form in her throat as her mouth began to water, Kagome's hand came down to help her up. The girl screamed as the vomit went all over her arm and the bed. The tiajiya continued to empty her stomach.
"Ewwww, so gross. Let's get you in the bathroom." She placed the girl's arm around her shoulder and helped her stand.
"Wait, I can't." Sango felt her legs give away putting all her weight on Kagome. She felt them both go down in a heap. "Kagome, I don't feel so good."
"I kind of guessed that." She wasn't sure what to do, she couldn't handle this alone. So she called for help, "Shiori!" Sango moaned next to her, barely conscious. "Fuck, come on Sango. Don't pass out on me, I can't pick you up."
The door opened and the older woman came in smiling, "Did you need something?" Her eyes fell on the two girls on the floor, worry filled her. "Shuichi, come here now." She yelled as she ran over to them. "What's happened?"
"I don't know, I don't even think she's conscious anymore." Kagome tried to get her up with the woman's help. They had her standing up when Kurama came in the room.
"What is it mother?"
"Don't just stand there help." She wouldn't have imagined that the slim girl could weigh as much as she did. She sighed when he took her.
"What's wrong with her?" He easily took the weight, picking her up.
"She said something about her back hurting and then started getting sick. I tried to remove the shirt and take a look but she said she couldn't lift her arms." Kagome followed him as he left the puke filled room.
"Mother fetch me some scissors and the first aid kit from under the sink. Kagome I'll need your help. Get my door please." He waited for her to open the door then deposited Sango on the bed. Shiori came back with what he asked for. He cut the shirt off and swore. The area around the scatches were red and swollen, he removed the bandages. A bright green substance was oozing out.
"Is it infected?" Shiori asked.
"No mother, some type of poison must have been secreted from it's claws. Odds are it's already entered her blood stream. I will do what I can, the rest is up to her." He asked his mother to leave while Kagome helped him clean the wounds. She watched as he made some kind of ointment.
"What is that?"
"It will help fight the poison and bring down the fever that is starting to rise." He applied it carefully and bandaged her back up.
"Okay, think she will make it?" Kagome knew he could hear the tears in her voice.
"I'm sure she will be fine." He pulled the blanket up over her, "How did she get that scar?"
"Her brother. Naraku used him to kill their father and fellow taijiya. After killing them he turned on her, she was buried alive while Naraku took Kohaku. Just another case of Naraku's twisted plots."
"I see, I'll sit here if you want to go get some breakfast. She'll be fine, go ahead." Kurama reassured her. He watched the miko walk out the room.
