Set me free

Part 16

Inuyasha could not
believe his eyes. They had watched in horror as the wolves took the life of the
young girl and how the woman just gave up and slumped down on the ground. But
then another figure had entered the battle field, and that figure was one that
Inuyasha knew all too well.

-         

Inuyasha? Ayame’s voice was confused.

-         

Yeah, he is my fucking brother; correct that – half brother
Sesshoumaru. I am half human, he is a full blooded demon and he is the lord of
the western lands. He got the job after my old man moved on. But why is he here?

Inuyasha still held the
little kitsune close to his chest, hindering him to see anything of the blood
bath. His little form shivered and Inuyasha did his best to purr for the little
fellow. Shippou was glad for the effort Inuyasha made, the purring made him feel
safe. He hugged the stuffed tiger as hard as he could as he hid his face in the
red warmth.

Ayame looked back on the
field and saw Sesshoumaru slice the rest of the wolf pack with a whip like
thing. They never stood a chance. She shivered and wondered if Kouga had been
among them, but she could not pick up his scent, but still the blood stench was
overwhelming in the air so it could be a possibility that her former mate to be
actually lay among the slain wolves.

They heard the words that
were exchanged between the woman and the lord and Ayame could see her mate frown
and began walking into the field. She followed him, wanting to be close to her
mate. She gasped when she saw the lord raise a sword above his head and slash it
down onto the young girl’s body. “What… what the hell is he doing?” she
choked on her words as she saw the woman throw herself on the lord and it was
obvious that Inuyasha’s older brother was surprised over the action and was
caught off guard. A blue blade was pushing against the soft skin on the lord’s
throat and Ayame was sure she could feel the waves of magic flowing from it even
from this distance.

Inuyasha stopped dead in
his tracks when he saw the slain form began to move. What ever his brother had
done to the young girl it had given the life back to her. She managed to get up
in a sitting position and he could hear the woman’s cry. But why had his brother
done it? He was the ultimate human hater. He despised anything that was
connected to humans, so why had he given the life back to a little human girl?
He heard his brother snort and turn around, and Sesshoumaru’s face did not get
any brighter by seeing his half brother’s face only a few meters away.

Inuyasha managed to
loosen the grip Shippou had on his haori and gave the pup over to Ayame.

-         

Keep him safe love, he whispered and she nodded.

-         

What are you going to do?

-         

This can get ugly, but I want you to take care of the slayer
and her little friend ok?

-         

O-ok mate, be careful.

-         

I will, said Inuyasha and gave her a quick peck on the cheek.

Ayame hurried towards the
woman and the little girl. Both females’ hugged and cried, they never noticed
Ayame until she sat down next to them. They stiffened and looked suspiciously at
Ayame and Shippou who now was looking right at the little girl.

Shippou was bothered by
the girl’s tears so he handed over Tora to her. He was convinced that the toy
would cheer up the little girl and he was right. She smiled shyly and hugged the
white tiger close to her chest.

My name is Shippou, what’s yours? he asked and wiggled out of
Ayame’s arms.

-         

Rin, she answered with a low voice and looked into the green
eyes of the kitsune.

-         

Rin-chan, I hope you are feeling ok, said Shippou. We saw
what happened.

-         

Yeah, Sango-oneesan told me that to man over there saved my
life with his strange sword.

-         

Amazing, breathed Ayame and looked over the woman.

-         

My name is Sango, she said.

-         

I am Ayame, I am a wolf demon.. Ayame saw Sango tense up.

-         

We are nice demons, hurried Shippou to chip in.

-         

My son is right, said Ayame.

-         

Your son…? But he is a kitsune… Sango was confused.

-         

Well, he is my adoptive son, and the male in the red outfit
is my mate, his name is Inuyasha and the other guy is Sesshoumaru, demon lord
over the western lands.

-         

I figured the lord-part out, his markings is quite telling
and when I look at your mate I would guess – dog demon?

-         

Yes, dog demon, answered Ayame. /p>

-         

Rin-chan, would you like to play with me? There is a nice
little stream over there in the woods, said Shippou.

-         
Oneesan?
Rin looked up to her sister.

-         

Yeah, but be careful, there might still be some wolves
around, said Sango.

-         

I will protect her, said Shippou and puffed up his little
chest and that made Sango smile.

-         

Good, ok run along then.

The kids ran off with
amazing speed and that left the two females to watch too glaring brothers. Ayame
felt the hostility between the two, but the lord seemed more embarrassed with
the whole thing than anything else.

-         

Sesshoumaru, that was his name?

-         

Yes, that was what Inuyasha told me, said Ayame.

-         

He is very handsome, said Sango.

She turned beet red when
the described lord turned his head and gazed heatedly at her. “Fuck, he heard
that?!!?” She took a firm grip around her sword – just in case.

Inuyasha had heard it too
and by the way his bastard brother reacted he was rather amused. His brother
actually had a small tint of red on his pale cheeks. “I’ll be damned, the ass
hole has feelings after all.” thought Inuyasha and moved towards Sango and
Ayame. In the corner of his eye he saw his adoptive pup take off into the forest
with the young girl his brother had brought back to life and he smiled. Perhaps
the slayers would consider travelling with them; it would be good for Shippou.
He would ask them.

-         

Inuyasha, so you have been awaken from the old tree?
Sesshoumaru’s deep voice stated.

-         

Yeah, an angel set me free from my imprisonment, said
Inuyasha and saw the deep blush on Ayame’s cheeks.

-         

Indeed… What is your business here in the western lands?

-         

My adoptive pup lost his parents against the Thunder
brethren, and we are here to avenge their deaths, said Inuyasha truthfully.

-         

I see. When did you awake from the tree?

-         

Only a couple of days ago.

-         

And you already have a mate and a pup – gee brother that was
quick work, smirked the demon lord and caught his brother off guard with his
smile.

-         

Well, I can smell you want to mate too, and the slayer is
good looking woman don’t you agree?

Inuyasha knew his brother
would explode and attack him for deliver such a comment, but Sesshoumaru held
his stance. And that meant that he actually considered the possibility.

-         

Sesshoumaru, you are scaring me now, said Inuyasha.

-         

Why should you care? sneered Sesshoumaru.

-         

Well you are my only living relative, it does not matter if I
hate you or not – that does not change the fact of our relationship.

-         

So where do you think Hiten and Manten are hiding? asked
Sesshoumaru, changing the topic very fast.

-         

My best guess would be the northern mountain range, have you
heard anything about them?

-         

No, nothing that contradict your guesses.

The thoughtful face of
Sesshoumaru scared Inuyasha more than that hateful gleam his brother always
seemed to have in his amber eyes. But that gleam was gone, it did not exist
anymore. “What the hell happened to you brother while I was dead to the
world?” asked Inuyasha silently and watched his brother’s features.

Sango and Ayame had moved
up to their feet and stood not far away from Inuyasha now. Ayame felt a very odd
sensation as she saw the lord take a few step closer to them. He was
definitively up to something.
