Sango or Kaede

Chapter Fourteen

"Well, I'm off to bed."

Sango looked up from the book on her lap to wish Kagome a good night. She rearranged her legs and watched the other girl leave the room. Over an hour ago, Shiori had claimed to be tired so the reading session had been moved to Kurama's bed room. Hiei had left also, she wasn't sure where he'd gone. Ignoring the fact that she was left alone once again with the man, she went back to her page.

Skimming past most of the paragraphs; she was looking for anything resembling what they had seen earlier in the day. So far there'd been nothing. Then again she was only on her second book and Kurama his third. There was probably twenty more books in the box.

She was sitting on the bed, with her legs folded in front of her, using them as a desk for the book. He was in the same position but had his book placed on the bed in front of him. She wondered if he realized that they were now alone. His attention hadn't strayed from the book when Kagome had made her announcement.

"What about this one?" Kurama got her attention.

"Huh?"

"Look, this one speaks of a jewel that gives it's user immense power. Doesn't have what we saw but maybe if the jewel was found it could have been used for what we saw today. There isn't much information about it here. A few notes, the miko must have written. The shikon no tama."

Sango's eyes widened, "Oh, that's not it. I'm sure it isn't the jewel."

"How can you be so sure?" He turned to her looking at her face.

"It was destroyed over five centuries ago." She tried to let it drop at that, she was very tired and getting cranky.

"Yes, but how can we be sure that it actually was? What if it just disappeared for a bit. We must leave this as one of the options."

"Look, it's not the jewel okay. If we put that as one of the options then it is a waste of time. It's not the shikon, okay." She raised her voice a notch.

"Unless you have proof, I'm going to suggest it to the others."

She forcefully put the book on the bed. Why couldn't he just take her at her word? "I'm going to bed, don't listen if you don't want to. But you will be wasting your time and more importantly mine."

"Why are you so angry, its not that I don't trust you. I just think without proof it is an option."

"You want proof, I was there when it was destroyed and sent from this world. How is that for proof?" She got off the bed and glared down at him. "And if thats not enough, ask Kagome since she was it's Guardian and was the one to destroy the damn thing." She left a wide eyed Kurama sitting on the bed.

Her feet took her to the other room, she opened the door and promptly slammed it behind herself. Kagome was laying on the bed, she jerked up at the door. Neither girl said anything as Sango grabbed her bag and went to the bathroom. She slammed that door also.

Kagome just layed there not sure what to do. 'Okay that was weird.' She didn't move for several minutes until there was a soft knock on the door. Maybe it was Shiori wanting to see if everything was okay. She looked down at her clothes, which consisted of panties and a tshirt. Deciding just to crack the door enough to peer out, she padded on over. It was soon cracked and she was peering at not only Kurama but Hiei as well. "Yes."

He pushed the door open forcing his way in, "Where is she?"

"In the shower, why?" Kagome stayed behind the door as they both came in. 'Great.' She felt the door being jerked out her hand taking away her cover. "Since you've rudely busted in here, how bout turning around both of you. I need to get something else on."

Kurama blushed at seeing her in that state of undress. Hiei kept his eyes on her, she turned to look at him. She gave them her back and went to put on a pair of shorts.

Sango came out the bathroom, she stopped at seeing the two men standing in the room. She was thankful, she'd put on the pajama pants before coming out. Her feet lead her to place her bag back down beside the bed. "I assume you are here for answers."

"Of course."

"What answers?" Kagome sat on the bed while Sango went to the window to peer out.

"He was insisting earlier that the shikon might be involved." Sango let it drop at that.

Kagome started laughing, she waved her hands in front of her face. "Oh, we can tell you right off it's not the jewel. If by chance it came back, I would have been able to sense it."

"Yes, she informed me that you were the one to destroy it. What we want to know is how." Kurama took a few steps towards the bed.

"Oh, that's simple. It was purified, and used to kill Naraku."

"Don't play coy girl." Hiei spoke harshly. "If the jewel was destroyed over five centuries ago how could you have been the one to do it?"

"Well, thats the tricky part." Kagome didn't know where to begin. Yet she felt they had a right to know. She told them the basics of going through the well, breaking the jewel, and Naraku. "See, I just used the ancient well on my family's shrine that was made from the Tree of Ages. With the power of the jewel I was able to travel back and forth."

"And Sango?" Kurama asked.

"Oh, no she didn't travel back and forth with me."

"Then how was she there?" Hiei asked.

"Because I was already there," She didn't turn around as she spoke.

Kagome knew she wasn't going to explain so she did it. "I met Sango on my search for the jewel shards. Naraku plotted against both of us, he tricked her into fighting against Inuyasha. After the truth came out she joined up with us. We've been friends since. The jewel was eventually destroyed though."

"If she was from that era, how did she end up here?" He suddenly had a bad feeling, he wasn't sure if he was ready for this answer.

"I was attacked one day, I ended up at the well. I must have fallen into the well as I passed out. For some reason it let me through. I came to here, over a year after Kagome had returned to this era as well. I'm stuck."

Hiei was satisfied with the answers, so they really didn't have to worry about this so called jewel. Which meant something else was causing it. It also meant the miko was a lot stronger than he'd first given her credit for.

"You two leave now." Kurama had his head down, anger poured from him in volumes. "I wish to speak to Sango alone."

Kagome wasn't sure if she should, he didn't look too happy for some reason. "I don't know."

"I'll be fine Kagome." Sango still hadn't turned around. He was probably mad at her outburst from earlier, let him rant.

"Oh, okay," She followed the little man out the room and into the hall.

Sango placed her head against the window pane, she really was tired. But if he wanted to rant what harm was there in letting him. "Say what you have to say, so I can head to bed."

"Very well, Sango. Or should I call you Kaede?"
