Chapter 14

Warmth and softness surrounded her body as her mind became aware of its surroundings.

Kagome was back in Kouga’s den, sleeping in the bed that they now shared as mates. She smiled while thinking about what happened between them.

Her first time was magical; it was everything she hoped it would be. He was incredibly loving and wildly passionate. Certain areas of her body felt a little more stiff than others as she sat up. The smell of food cooking made her stomach growl. It had been a while since her last meal, so she was ready to eat!

Kouga walked into their room, glancing around the corner to see if his mate was awake, “Good morning mate!” He smiled from ear to ear at the love of his life, “I prepared you a big breakfast. How do you feel?”

“Simple: hungry and sore!” Kagome looked away, blushing at her out burst.

Kouga laughed at her, “I figured you’d be hungry, considering you haven’t ate since yesterday. As for theeneseness....it will go away. Why don’t you soak for a while in the hot spring after breakfast? That’s the best cure for aches and tender muscles.” He winked at her and moved toward the futon.

He watched as she climbed off the futon and stood up. It was painfully obvious exactly where she had the most discomfort. Kouga cringed when she brought her thighs together and winced.

“I hurt you, didn’t I love? Was I too rough with you?” He asked while gathering her close.

“Don’t be silly Kouga. It was my first time, I’m supposed to be sore. Please stop worrying about me so much. I’m not made of glass and I won’t break, besides, I enjoyed our mating very much.” A shy grin was given to her new mate after that little confession.

‘So...she liked how I took he..I ..I can’t wait to teach her more. My mate has no idea of the things I plan on doing to her.’ Kouga kissed her forehead and wrapped his arm around her waist to help guide her to the kitchen table.

“Who are you cooking for? An army?” Kagome’s eyesrly rly popped out at the sight of all the food he had fixed for her. There was fresh fruit slices, seared strips of meat, scrambled eggs, rice and sticky buns. A steaming pot of tea sat in the middle of the table along with a pitcher of fresh squeezed fruit juice.

Kagome glanced at him after he failed to come back with one of his usual cocky remarks. His eyes were cast down, a look of disappointment and sadness clearly showed on his face.

“You don’t like the meal.” it was more of a statement than a question as his eyes shifted to roam over the table.

“No... I think it’s fantastic!” ‘Oh, this is great, now I’ve hurt his feelings!’ Kagome thought. “I am lucky to have such a sweet caring mate that can cook, considering you can actually cook better than me! But if you ever want Ramen, I’m the girl to ask!.” she smiled at him, hoping his mood would lighten.

Kouga watched with those crystal blue eyes for a moment before wrapping his arms around her for a bone breaking hug. “Thank you love. Now, let’s eat. We have a lot to do today.”

“Oh really!” she smirked “And just what did you have in mind?”

Kouga nearly chocked on his breakfast when Kagome shot him a sly look across the table, “I know what you’re thinking of my little sex crazed mate, but that’s not what I planned on. Not that I would pass up opp opportunity to take you again.” Kouga smiled back, waiting for her response to his comment on her behavior.

“Sex crazed?!” she yelled, “Don’t you wish! If that were the case, I would have jumped you a long time ago!”

“Are you saying you were that attracted to me, even back when you claimed to love dog? D? Did you dream about me Kagome? Maybe imagine what I would look like naked?” With must self restraint, Kouga held in the laughter that was threatening to burst out ny mny minute.

Kagome was sitting across from him, her face as red as a tomato, “Kouga! I ..... you... that is...”

“What’s wrong love? Wolf got your tongue?”

Kagome ‘hmphed’ at him and continued to eat her food, trying her best to ignore the knowing sparkle in her new mate’s eyes.

Later that morning, after the dishes were cleaned, Kagome decided to listen to Kouga’s advice and take a nice long bath in the hot spring.

She sunk deep in the water until it was up to her neck. Once her muscles started to relax, she closed her eyes and focused on the sound of trickling water running over the cave walls.

Kagome was so lost in the moment that she failed to sense the figure that crept through the door and was now crouching by her on the edge of the hot spring.

“Oi!”

“KYYYAAAAA!” Kagome splashed wildly from shock caused by the undetected presence. She watched as Kouga rolled on his back laughing at the look on his startled woman’s face.

“That was not funny! Stop laughing!” Kagome demanded.

Kouga rolled to his side, giving her a good view of his nude body, and grinned at her, “Well, actually love, you’re right. Seeing you scared shitless for the grand total of five seconds wasn’t funny, it was friggin hilarious!” He continued to laugh as she shot daggers with her eyes. Oh yeah, if looks could kill, he would be one dead wolf by now! “You should have seen yourself! Your arms and legs shot out of the water and you were wiggling around like a fish on land!” Hearty laughter echoed through out the cave.

An audible smack was heard as Kagome cracked his bare thigh with a wet rag. Kouga yelped at the sting of her hit, but he knew she was just being playful. The evil smile shee hie him revealed her true intentions.


Kouga slid behind her, enjoying the warmth of the water and her small body pressed agaihis his own. If silk had feelings, surely it would envy the feel of Kagome’s skin. His lips pressed against the pale skin of her shoulder. Each kiss was followed by a brief caress of his tongue before moving to a different spot for the same affection.

“Ohhhh.... that feels so good.” Kagome cooed as she tilted her head to the side, granting him more access to her shoulder and neck. “Not to break the mood or anything, but what did you mean when you said we have a lot to do today?”

Kouga paused in mid-lick, slowly withdrawing his tongue from a sensitive spot on her neck. If she had youkai senses, Kagome would have smelled the fear and insecurity that surrounded her new mate.

This was the moment of truth, and he refused to back out of his decision. Kouga turned her so that she was facing him, “Kagome, my love, my mate...” He placed her hand over his heart and placed soft kisses on the other, “I’m going to take you home, it’s time for you to return to your family and let them know what has happened.”

“Are you coming with me?” She looked worried as she waited for his response, “I don’t want to leave without you Kouga, I love you....”

“Shhh.... of course I’ll come with...” Kouga said in a quiet tone to reassure her that he’d never leave, “.... after all, I want to meet your family, or rather, my human in-laws. I don’t want them thinking that I can’t take care of you. Your parents need to know how much I love their daughter.”

“Actually Kouga, my dad died when I was very young, but I still have my mom, little brother and grandfather.”

“I’m sorry your father passed away, love. Do you think your mother will be unhappy about our relationship?”

Kagome shook her head, “No.... at least, I don’t think so. I know my mom wanted me to have a church wedding, but technically we are married in the eyes of the wolf pack and youkai traditions, right?”

“Of course. We’re mates, no matter what anyone says. I am bound to you for life, and you to me. We are one, and no offense love, but our commitment is stronger than any human ritual.”

“I’m not offended. It’s a little scary at times, but I can actually feel you in my mind. And I know that you are worried about taking me home.” Kagome’s hands smoothed over his chest as she stared into his blue eyes. “I’ll never leave you either Kouga, I am yours, forever.”

“Kagome, please understand that I’m not taking you to see your family JUST because we are mates. They are an important part of your life and I want you to be happy. It was selfish of me to use them against you and try to force you to become my mate... and control you with a subduing spell.....” Kouga looked distant as he started listing all the things he had screwed up on, “...and to ‘purchase’ you form dog face, not to mention I held you captive in my den and forced you to sleep next to me even when I new you didn’t wantstaystay here.... but I wanted you to be mine!”

Kagome kissed him, lingering for a moment as she felt his body slowly relax before pulling way, “Ok, so you have done some stupid things, but I still love you. And, if you EVER pull stunts like that again, I will be forced to neuter you.” Kagome laughed at his horrified expression.

‘Ginta was right!! She does have a wicked temper!!’ Kouga thought looking at his sweet, and no longer, so innocent woman.

“Kagome, Kouga! Can I come in?”

“Shippo! We’re in the hot spring.” Kagome called out.

They watched as a fluffy head of red hair poked around the side of the entrance. Shippo saw Kouga sitting with his elbows propped up and his back resting on the edge of the spring while Kagome sat in front of him.

“When did you two start bathing together? I thought only..... *sniff* ........ mates .......*sniff* .....did... *sniff* ....that.” The little kitsune gave them a knowing smile after he was satisfied scenting the air. Since they did not mate inside the den, their scent wasn’t as obvious, but Shippo gradually realized what happened between his adopted mother and the wolf prince.

Kagome blushed all the way down to the roots of her hair. Kouga gave the kit a cocky grin, “That’s right Shippo. Kagome and I are now mates.”

Shippo looked at him. After a few minutes of consideration and scrapping one little paw against the stone floor, he finally got up the courage to speak his mind, “Kagome?”

“Yes Shippo?”

“Would you ...um... would you mind if I talked to Kouga alone?”

She was sort of taken back by the kit’s request, but figured it must be serious from the way he was acting, “Yeah, that’s fine.” Kagome reached for a towel and wrapped it around her wet body before fully stepping out of the spring. As she passed by Shippo, Kagome paused to ruffle his hair, “Hey, are you ok?”

“Uh huh... I just need to talk to Kouga...” Shippo crossed his arms over his chest, “ya know, man to man, no girls allowed.”

Kagome shook her head and laughed at the kit. Shippo knew too much for his age, and the ‘talk’ he was about to have with Kouga made her nervous. But, she respected his request and left the two males alone.

“So, what’s on your mind kid?”

Shippo looked at Kouga who was still lounging in the hot spring. His green eyes took on a glassy appearance as he continued to stare at the wolf prince.

“Shippo? What’s wrong?” Kouga wadded to the other side. He sat down facing Shippo, “Look, if something happened ..”

“You don’t want me here.” The kits flat out statement left Kouga in a stunned silence.

“I never said that! Why would you think that Shippo?”

“I know you want a pup really bad. I could tell by the way you acted when Aika had the twins. Now that you and Kagome are mates, you won’t want me around because you’ll have pups of your own one day.” Shippo wiped his tears on his dirty sleeve, leaving a muddy looking mark across his cheeks.

No matter how tough Kouga tried to act, Shippo’s crying face broke down his facade. “You’re right about us having pups, but I never said I didn’t want to you to live with us. How could I not want a kit who is smart, brave and very protective of my mate? Those qualities show me that you are a good youkai, and with a loving family, you’ll grow to be a strong male.”

Shippo’s eyes widened, did the wolf accept him in their family?! “So stop crying and getting all worked up over nothing.” Kouga snatched up the kitsune and hugged him tight before holding him at arms length, “Damn kid! What did you roll in? Deer shit?” Kouga crinkled his nose at the offensive odor.

“Well, it might have been from a deer..... I was so busy trying to keep up with Hakkagu, that I didn’t take time to find out what animal it came from!”

“Yuuukkkk! Kagome!! I need a change of clothes for the runt! OUR pup landed in a pile of kami-knows-what and reeks!” Kouga smiled at the kit after emphasizing ‘our’, letting him know exactly where and who he belonged to.

Kagome laughed as she helped the kit strip down. He sat on Kouga’s knee as the wolf prince dipped the wash rag in the warm water and lathered his skin with the flowery smelling soap.

Shippo sniffed at the rag and stuck his tongue out, “Hey! Are you trying ake ake mellmell like a girl? Do you have any idea how that scent could tarnish my reputation around here?” Shippo glared at the wolf.

“What reputation? You haven’t even lived here for a week, runt!”

“You obviously have no idea what it’s like to be a kitsune trying to fit into a wolf pack. Everyone has to learn that I am SHIPPO!” he shouted waving his little claws in the air, “I am the strongest, bravest and most feared kitsune alive!”

A giggle broke him out of his self inflicted bravado. Kagome was still sitting by the hot spring, watching him declare his greatness, “Oh Shippo, that was so cute!” Kagome laughed some more causing the pint sized kit’s ego to deflate.

Kouga smirked at him, “I tell ya what kid, if you really want to be that strong, then we will start your training as soon as Kagome and I get back from her time.”

“You’re leaving?” he looked worriedly at the two adults.

“Don’t worry Shippo, we’ll be back in a few days and I plan on asking Aika if you can stay with her family.” Kagome smiled at him.

“Next time we’ll take you with, but for now, we need to talk to Kagome’s family alone. Understand?” Kouga asked while lathering the kit’s red hair.

“Yeah.... I guess.” Shippo was quiet for a moment, thinking about how much he would miss his new parents while they were away. He wanted to go with and see all the neat things in Kagome’s time like the magic boxes that performed plays all the time and the carriages that could fly in the sky and travel over the land faster than a youkai. Of course there were also the festivals with lots of lights and food....... a gleam came to the little kit’s eyes as he formulated a plan. Both adults noticed the grin that slowly spread across his face. “Are you two going to miss me while you are away?” Shippo asked. His eyes took on a glassy look, as if he were going to cry.

“Oh Shippo sweety, sure we will, but I promise to come as soon as we can....” Guilt gripped Kagome as his big tear filled eyes turned away from her.

*sniffles* “Well, I’d probably feel much better if I had something to look forward too, besides my loving parents return...”

Kouga grinned at Kagome. It was obvious that Kagome didn’t realize what the kit was up too, but the wolf knew all to well, “Ok kid, what do you want?” Kouga nudged his chin, making the kit look up at him.

“Um...I would love some candy.”

It finally dawned on Kagome that Shippo was playing her for a sucker, but she loved him, he was her kit, and how could anyone refuse a request from a sweetie like him!

“Very slick Shippo, but, I’ll still bring you something back. So what would you like?”

Kouga finally got all the shampoo out of his hair as Shippo’s mind raced with all the possibilities!


“Let’s see..... I’ll have some gum balls, jelly beans, LOTS of jelly beans, chocolate bars, chocolate covered almonds, lollipops in grape, watermelon, strawberry, apple, lemon, cinnamon, cotton candy, blue raspberry and butterscotch flavors...... oh and don’t forget those fluffy white things...um marshmellows, 2 bags if possible, and peanut butter cups, and licorice whips....hmm..oh yeah how about some rock candy too?....”

As Shippo continued his list Kaomge looked at Kouga who was balancing the rambling kit on his knee. The wolf prince was beside himself, taking in all the unfamiliar names of the items his son wanted. What ever these strange things were, they must have been pretty special in order to have riled the kit to the state of euphoria.

“That’s enough already!” Kouga dipped Shippo in the spring for a final rinse before handing him to his mate.

“I don’t know what all this candy stuff is, but if it is anything like what we have in this time, you are not getting it! All that can’t be good for a growing kit!”

“Kagome....” Shippo whined, twitching his soaked tail, “Kouga said I can’t have the candy!”

“I heard him loud and clear, and he’s right, all that junk food isn’t good for you.”

Shippo sighed, looking thoroughly disappointed with his shoulders slumped and mouth turned downward in a deep frown.

“Cheer up. I’ll bring you back some candy, but not all of what you asked for.” Shippo hugged Kagome as she dried his hair and tail.

After listening to Shippo talk about all the things he had planned to to do while they were gone, Kagome started packing. She was nervous about her family meeting Kouga and what their reactions would be to her untraditional union.

Kouga sniffed the air and looked toward the cave entrance, “Your friends are coming, love.”

“Friends? Oh..... you mean Sango and Miroku!?” Kagome sprinted off to greet them.

The girls embraced each other, instantly chattering and impressing the men at how fast they coulch sch speak and answer. Kagome pulled Sango inside by her arm and started giving her a tour of the place.

“Hmph... Don’t ya think it’s sad how we just get ignored when the girls are together?” Kouga crossed his arms and shook his head as he and Miroku walked into the den, watching the girls giggle and talk.

It startled them both when Kagome gasped loudly and hugged Sango. A shout of “Congratulations” was heard and Kagome ran over to Miroku, giving him a tight hug.

“It’s about time you stopped being such a flirt and FINALLY admitted that you love Sango! I am so happy for you both!” Kagome looked overwhelmed with happiness as she lead her friends into the kitchen for a hot cup of tea.

“Oi Kagome, you act like our mating was no big deal! You didn’t even mention that we are now a couple!” Kouga was miffed from her lack of acknowledgment.

“Ooops! Sorry Kouga! I was so happy to hear that my friends are now together that I kof fof forgot to mention us! Believe me, if you had been around to see these two deny their love for each other, you’d be thrilled to finally see them together too!” Kagome beamed with happiness as she sat down across from the couple.

“Actually Kagome-sama, I was not the one who tried to hide my feelings, that would have been my lovely wife sitting beside me.” Miroku looked as cool and calm as ever as he sipped his tea.

“That takes some nerve of you to say! You and everyone else knows exactly why we didn’t get together sooner; it was because of your lecherous ways!” Sango glared at Miroku as he continued to drink his tea.

“My lovely Sango, must I remind you that I am a monk and would never dream of touching a woman in such a way. It is only natural that since I worship Budda and all the beautiful things he has created, that I be able to admire all forms of beauty?”

“Not when ‘admiring’ involves groping!” Sango shouted back. “But he has promised to stop, or else we would both still be single. ”

“You must have been one obnoxious bastard to get such a strong reaction out of your woman monk! It’s a good thing that Kagome doesn’t act so bossy, after all, I am the male in this den, which means I am in charge.” Kouga looked smug as Miroku gave him a wide eyed look of shock.

“Kouga, do you realize what you just said and who you said it in front of?” Miroku had leaned over the table and spoke in a low voice. The wolf prince didn’t catch on right away until he followed the monk’s nervous glances to his left side.

Kagome’s eyes threatened to burn holes in his skull as she stared at him, “Kouga?” Her voice was calm, too damn calm!

“Yes love?” He answered timidly.

“Would you like to sleep alone for the next month?”

“No love.”


“Then I would suggest you leave your domineering attitude at the front door, because I do not have a boss, only a mate. Got it!”

“Yes love.” Kouga stood up and motioned for the monk to follow him, “C’mon Miroku, we had better leave before we dig our graves any deeper.”

Kagome and Sango watched as they exited the den.

“Ok, so no matter how dense they can be at times, you have to admit that they are cute and sweet!” Sango giggled.

“I guess after our last argument, Kouga has learned to not underestimate the power of a woman. You should have heard him boasting about his control over me and females in general! You would have died laughing Sango!”

Both girls laughed and talked about their new husbands. Sango told Kagome about Inuyasha and Kikyo coming to Kaeda’s in an attempt to save her life.

“I don’t know why Inuyasha bothered. It’s painfully obvious that he doesn’t care about me.” Kagome sighed, “Oh well, I guess that’s all in the past now, right? I have Kouga, and he loves me for who I am, not because I resemble some dead lover.”

“You are right Kagome-chan. Inuyasha deserves what ever he gets in the future. I was shocked when Shippo told us what happened. How could he just trade you for the shards and a potion to bring that conniving bitch back to life after everything you two have been through together? Besides me, Miroku, Shippo and Kaeda you are the only true friend he has.”

“Friendship has no value to him. But, as hurt and angry as I am at him, I still don’t hate him. At first I did, but if I truly loved someone, I guess I would do anything to be with them too. I can’t imagine Kouga being in Kikyo’s place. I’m not sure how I’d react.”

Sango let out a dep sigh, “Hmm... well... maybe I can see your point, but he was still wrong. You really are too good for him Kagome-chan. Only you could forgive that mutt after the way he has treated you.”

“Do you think Inuyasha and Kikyo has left the mountain Sango? I wanted to thank Kikyo for helping me, even if she did try to kill me on multiple occasions.”

“Honestly, Kagome-chan I haven’t seeem sem since last night. One of the wolves offered them an empty den, just like they did for me and Miroku, but I’m not sure if they stayed.” Sango stated.

“Maybe it’s better if they did leave. I’m sure Inuyasha and Kouga’s personalities will still conflict, no matter whose mate I am.” Kagome gazed at the front door of the den as she wondered where Inuyasha was.
