Scene 14
Scene 14 ------------------------------------------- Three Hours Later
* When Shippo finally wakes up it wakes Inuyasha who is still next to him. One of the hanyou's furry white ears turns toward the soft humming of Kaede as she rises from doing some meditating. But Inuyasha's eyes stay on the kit to watch him begin to stretch. Then Shippo opens his sleepy eyes and freezes. He sits up, rubs his eyes, then looks up again.
Inuyasha - (Quietly) Hey, kit.
* With a squeak of sudden joy Shippo leaps up to embrace the hanyou so quickly they almost topple over. Inuyasha braces himself up, then raises his arms to embrace Shippo. Kaede glances toward them a moment to watch the young fox demon hug Inuyasha tightly as he starts to whimper.
Inuyasha - (Quietly) Easy now,... I'm here.
* Inuyasha almost chuckles when Shippo pulls back and pulls the collar of his robes aside to examine his neck for Kouga's claim mark.
Inuyasha - It's okay, he didn't claim me... I'm still available.
* At these words, Shippo works himself back off of Inuyasha's lap to return to the futon. Inuyasha watches him lower his eyes.
Shippo - I'm glad that you're back safely... I was worried that you wouldn't come back.
Inuyasha - I almost didn't... I offered myself to Kouga, but he... he didn't want me.
* Shippo looks up at Inuyasha. His nose twitches as he leans forward to sniffle the hanyou.
Shippo - But... I still smell him on you and... your heat is gone...
Inuyasha - It's a long story... How long has it been since you've eatten?
* Shippo half notices the healer, then thinks.
Shippo - A couple days, I guess...
* Inuyasha shakes his head.
Inuyasha - That's not good for the kit...
* Shippo touches his stomach with a faint smile.
Shippo - Kits... I can feel three tiny bursts of warmth inside me.
* Inuyasha hesitates only a moment at this news.
Inuyasha - Then all four of you need to eat... Sister Kaede??
Kaede - Food is warming on the fire, Inuyasha.
* Inuyasha nods then stands.
Inuyasha - You eat good, Shippo. I need to go take a bath... terribly.
* When Shippo nods Inuyasha turns and leaves the hut. The other three members of his 'pack' are relaxing on the porch of the hut. Kagome stands up immediately when he comes out. Miroku looks up to watch her go over to hug Inuyasha. Sango glances up, then lowers her eyes and continues to pet Kilala who is drowsing on her lap.
Kagome - Oh, Inuyasha... Is Shippo going to be okay?
Inuyasha - Yes. He's awake now. Sister Kaede is fixing him some food.
Miroku - He's agreed to eat?
* Inuyasha nods and works Kagome back to look at the monk.
Inuyasha - Yes... I'm going to go to the Spring to wash.
Miroku - Smells like a good idea.
* Inuyasha studies Sango a moment. She feels his eyes on her but doesn't move until Inuyasha turns to leave the porch.
Sango - Inuyasha,...
* The hanyou stops, but doesn't face her as the slayer stands. She moves to touch his arm nervously.
Sango - I apologize... I should never have struck you...
Inuyasha - Don't trouble yourself over it no more, Slayer... You were within your rights to...
Sango - No, Inuyasha, I was too hasty... Shippo told us everything...
Inuyasha - It's forgiven, Sango.
* Now Inuyasha meets her eyes briefly, then hops down from the porch, and hurries off to the hot spring on the outskirts of the village. He pauses beside the steaming waters to undress quietly before slipping down into it. Slowly, the warm waters begin to soothe his aching muscles. 'If he still wants me', Inuyasha reasons with himself, 'I'll let him make that decision without pressure'. Now that he's back in his own territory Inuyasha feels himself relaxing for the first time in several days and actually catches a nap as he soaks. When he rouses awake he hmmphs, gets up out of the spring, dresses, and hurries back to the village. He glances around to be sure everything is peaceful then he hops up onto his branch in the sacred tree. Inside the hut, Shippo's friends watch the kit raise his head to glance in the direction of the tree a moment before returning to their attentions.
