Chapter Thirteen- Resurrection
~~
The only noise to be heard was Naraku's scream, and the last few shards they needed appeared as Naraku disintegrated. The blinding light faded, and Kagome's chest heaved with pain. She fell to her side in a pool of her own blood.
Sesshomaru was at her side in a flash, as was InuYasha and Koga. She was still alive, but in massive pain.
"Kagome," Sesshomaru said softly, "Can you hear me?"
"Y-yes," she said, then issuing a moan of pain. "Help Sango first. Use Tenseiga," she eeked out in a whisper, hardly able to talk. Koga began ripping out the shards that were in his legs and the tiny one that was in his chest. His emotions were making him go into a frenzy, and he was scared for Kagome, very scared. Sesshomaru rose and strode quickly to the monk and his dead wife's body that he still held close, ignoring his own near-fatal wounds. InuYasha quickly took Sesshomaru's previous spot next to Kagome.
Their soldiers were beginning to gather around them, only about a third of them had survived. Sesshomaru unsheathed the Tenseiga. It began glowing fully, a dull white light surrounding it. Sango began to glow that color also, as did all of Sesshomaru's fallen soldiers. With a dull sigh Sesshomaru swung the blade gently through the air, and the glowing escalated, then disappeared. Sango blinked.
"Sango? Dear?" Miroku asked quietly.
"Yes?"
"SANGO!" the monk cried and squeezed her until she might pop. Moans began issuing from all over the battlefield. The soldiers who had been gathering around rushed back to their fallen friends and comrades, not believing their eyes. Sesshomaru quickly returned to his Kagome. She was too deprived of her miko reserve to heal herself. She needed a doctor, quick. Sesshomaru wasn't worried about her death, he could quickly fix that with Tenseiga, but he didn't want her to be in pain, and from the looks of it she was in excruciating pain.
She yelled out in pain as Sesshomaru picked her up gently.
"I am sorry," he whispered. She only clenched her teeth and groped her side. Naraku, in a dying effort, had slit her side open with his claws. Her bright blood stained Sesshomaru's white silks and poured down onto his shoes. His eyes were wide with fright, and for the first time he smelled his own fear. It mingled with the smell of death coming from all around, and grew from Kagome as she lost blood. She was becoming pallid, and she was sobbing softly. One hand was clenching Sesshomaru's clothes, the other trying vainly to help keep the side of her torso shut.
He could feel her warmth slipping away. He forgot that if she died he could heal her, and his mind was clouding. Her blood was all over him. She had stopped crying, and the wetness of her face was now only from the slight drizzle that continued to fall.
"No, Kagome. Don't leave me," he whispered. In a flash he was running back to his home, leaving all the destruction behind. The sheathed Tenseiga flapped, forgotten, at his side.
~~
Kagura walked the cold stone halls; as opposed to Sesshomaru's warm wooden halls of his home, placidly as she searched out Kikyo. She wanted her body, just so she could send her to the pits of hell herself. The bitch had taken her only love from her. Kagura briefly put a hand over her beating heart, reassuring herself that he was dead. Despite all of his evils, and even her strong hate for him, she had loved Naraku. She didn't know why "“ maybe it was because she was a part of him, and something connected them.
But Naraku had somehow found a connection with Kikyo. But he was a torturous bastard and treated her badly, finding no love for him in return. And Kagura had watched as he constantly fawned over her, then beat her, then fawned again, asking for her forgiveness. Kagura hated Kikyo.
There she was, breathing idly and slowly.
"Bitch," Kagura muttered. She went to the bed "“ it was Naraku's bed "“ and lifted her up by her hair. Glazed eyes stared at nothing. Kagura picked up the vegetable of a woman and slung her over a shoulder, hauling her out. She walked slowly with her burden, and when she got to the entrance way and gates of the castle, she let Kikyo fall to the ground with a thud. Kagura didn't care. Kagura would send her to hell right here, right at the entrance to the cold castle that she was forced to do Naraku's bidding in.
Chanting in some ghastly ancient language, the Wind Witch opened up a portal to hell.
InuYasha sniffed the air: Kikyo. Though the scent of Kagome's blood also filled his nostrils, he could not ignore Kikyo. He knew that Kagome would be taken care of with Sesshomaru. He followed her scent. Kagura was with her. The clouds overhead were thickening, and thunder began to roll again. The dark grey clouds were swirling above the spot where InuYasha saw Kagura opening hell.
He had promised "“ but some promises are meant to be broken. With a sullen sigh, he turned away just in time to miss Kagura brutally kicking Kikyo into hell. InuYasha looked into the sky. He wondered how Kagome was doing.
~~
Kagome moaned weakly. Her face was a deathly white. Sesshomaru yelled orders to servants, having them bring healing herbs and liquids and such. Sesshomaru set her down upon a mat that a servant had laid down. He was afraid to move her anymore. Jaken was now at his side.
"If she passes, sire, you can always use the Tenseiga, can you not?" he said timidly. The youkai lord's eyes went wide. How could he have been so foolish? Well, he did know "“ he had been too occupied with keeping Kagome out of pain, for he shared her pain, that he had forgotten his helpful Tenseiga.
"But I don't want her to suffer," he murmured urgently, so only Jaken could hear. Jaken's eyes widened at his lord's concerns. They were in the center room, the entrance hall led straight into it. It was painted with warm colors and had scant furniture. Kagome was laid on a thick mat, for no couch was in the room and Sesshomaru dared not move her further because she was in pain. Sesshomaru and Jaken knelt beside her, with lesser servants going to and fro.
"Then end her life and bring it back, my lord," Sesshomaru's servant suggested.
"I can not kill her."
"I will, if it pleases you, Lord Sesshomaru," he offered.
Sesshomaru clenched his eyelids shut and unsheathed Tenseiga. He knew Kagome had not heard a word they had exchanged, even being right next to her, for she was slipping away, and neither was she really conscious or unconscious.
Whether she could hear him or not, Sesshomaru bent his graceful back so his lips were near her ear, Sesshomaru said, "My love, you will feel pain no more. Just sit still and do not worry. I am here for you." His words were quiet. He took her hand, his other hand clutching Tenseiga so tightly that his knuckles went white. He let his claws go through her skin, and secreted a large amount of poison into her blood. She coughed, and then was gone.
For an instant Sesshomaru sobbed, choking on his never-shed tears. Then he composed himself quickly, seeing the soul collectors already coming for her. He destroyed them with a swift swipe, and caused Kagome's soul to return to her. She coughed again, but with renewed strength, as if she had just woken from a long nap. Her side was still bleeding, and with a careless wave of her hand as she sat up the great wound sealed, though it left a red-violet scar, the color of Naraku's eyes. Kagome, with a frustrated scowl, waved her hand again, fiercely glowing.
Sesshomaru interrupted her muses with her new scar and swiftly enveloped her person with his and firmly placed his lips on the crown of her dark head.
Kagome, though still very exhausted, said softly "Hah"¦ I love you too."
Sesshomaru squeezed her so tight he thought his own muscles would tear from his exertion. Kagome giggled weakly as he loosened his grip.
--
"Where are we"¦?" Sango asked, blinking the death from her eyes. Miroku said nothing, only sobbed into her neck. Suddenly she remembered and gasped. "Is he "“ is he really dead?!" she exclaimed. Miroku's sobs subsided and he nodded. Sango, still in his lap, cradled by his strong arms, threw her arms around his neck and let a tear fall.
"It's over," the monk said softly.
"KOHAKU!" Sango yelled and leapt up. She yelled again, but in pain this time. She had several serious wounds, and Miroku was hurt enough to not be able to even get up from the blood-soaked earth.
"Wait," he moaned, trying to stand and failing as his wounds bled anew. Sango's eyes welled up furiously as she watched her love suffer. Where was Kagome when you needed her?
"Wait "“ where is Kagome? And Sesshomaru?!" she wondered. Koga looked at them and answered.
"Kagome was fatally wounded, and Sesshomaru took off with her. Most likely to Sesshomaru's place." Koga now seemed weaker without his shards, and indeed he was.
The thunderheads began rolling towards them again as the wind shifted. A peal of lightning struck down.
"Why didn't Tenseiga heal us all completely?" Sango asked, knowing that she had been brought back.
"It probably took to much energy out of Sesshomaru. I'm sure the sword doesn't generate energy of it's own accord "“ not wholly, anyway "“ and so it feeds off its wielder," Miroku deduced.
"Well that's all nice and dandy, but how am I supposed to get you two home in the condition you're in?" Koga barked.
It had not seemed to hit any of them, yet, that Naraku was defeated. Life could be peaceful, finally. Sango sighed and shook her head mumbling, "I don't know"¦."
As her head shook a small flash caught her eye. She squinted her eyes, but couldn't see what it was. "Koga "“ something flashed over there "“ go see what it is!" Sango ordered. Koga snorted at her audacity to command him, but obeyed nonetheless. He walked over, bent over the ground, following the direction of Sango's finger. His sniffed his nose, then noticed three pink and glittering shards. They were sitting among the dusts of Naraku and near Kagome's blood.
Koga scooped them up. He walked the small distance back to the monk and slayer and showed his cupped hand to them.
"I hope Kagome will remember to summon the rest of the Jewel, otherwise we could be in for more of this," Miroku said, his face paling.
