Chapter Thirteen

The world seemed to freeze, as all eyes were directed at her. Even the music playing in the back ground seemed to switch off, because she could no longer hear it or the voice of the guests in her ears.

They were all watching.

And she couldn’t move not with the spotlight of their beams staring. Rightfully self-conscious of her movements caning her neck she trailed her brown eyes upwards past the red belch to an unmarred collar of the white shirt.

What have I done? Rin thought as her vision continued up to lock with very annoyed golden eyes.

Golden eyes! Again her mind immediately recognized that something is wrong with her eyesight. Forgetting her current situation she pushed on left leg standing up, blinking her eyes. Suddenly two hands gasped her shoulders pushing her to the right, “Come on,” whispered voice a she didn’t know.

“Wha-,” She started to say but then reality came back to her, looking to see who it was trying to move her. It was one the male staff members. She didn’t remember his name through.

Her body unbalanced she stumbled awkwardly in the direction the hands were urging her to go in. Rin stepped uncomfortably with her right foot she lost her balance and fell again to her hands and knees. And this time there was no silence; instead chuckles, snickers, and one distinct laugher that hadn’t bothered to hid the amusement in her situation.

Rin didn’t even nurse the idea of looking in the direction where the familiar laugher was originating from. Knowing the humiliated look on her face was actually what Yura wanted to see. Instead she rubbed her ankle for a couple of seconds, and then stood up with the help of the male staff member. Limping off the floor she did glance back towards Sesshoumaru, Kei was speaking with him, mostly likely apologizing for her ruining his suit. She signed letting the staff member take more of weight as he took her to the kitchen.

What a way to thank him, huh? Said her inner voice.

Oh shut up!!!

Rin sat in the back half listening to Kei’s rant, about how her scandal along with how this was going to devastate his business. If Sesshoumaru decided to tell others that he had an incompetent waitress on his staff who likes to spill wine on people. Kei wouldn’t be referred to potential clients; also he could lose current clients.

Rin did care about Kei’s business and was sorry; however she was more concern with Sesshoumaru. Not only did she owe him her life, but now a new suit as well, maybe it was possible to wash it out. Does red wine come out? She could find out, now these days’ companies make cleaners for everything. Or she could buy him another one, how much did it cost? It looked expensive.

She bit her bottom lip; this isn’t how it was suppose to go. Now she really had to find a way to pay him back. Thank him, apologize next, and then find away to repay him.

“Rin is that understood?”

“Uh?” She looked to the red face man.

“What! You weren’t even listening!” The fury that was in his cheeks rose to the tips of his ears.

“Oh umm…” She said trying to recall any words, “You said I wouldn’t be allowed to walk the floor and sending me home.”

“Almost, I said you won’t be allowed to walk the floor, moreover since I got you for the rest of the night I’ll make sure to work you to the bone! The work will you’ll be doing won’t have you in contact with any of the guests for the rest of the party.” Kei flicked up his wrist checking his watch, before continuing, “Starting with preparing the lung rooms.” After that Kei went into details on how he wanted the rooms to be set up. The rooms were designed for guests to sit and speak privately without distractions.

Rin signed, gathering items to begin, with all the things she was just assigned to do she wished he had just ordered her to go home. At least she wasn’t on the floor so it wasn’t possible to see the laugher on everyone’s faces. She saw Kagome, Sango and Ayame approaching, however couldn’t acknowledge them at how embarrassed she was, looking like a clumsily idiot.

“Hey, Rin are you okay,” said Kagome?

“We saw what happen,” said Sango.

“Yeah every one did,” said Ayame with her poor attempt to cover her giggle.

“Go away Ayame,” ordered Kagome turning towards Ayame.

“What? It was funny.”

“And now you can leave,” answered Kagome.

“You can’t tell me what to do.”

“Well I’m telling now. Go. Away.” Kagome said with venom in her voice.

“If you don’t have anything better to say you should get back to work.” Sango said.

Rin smile watching the events unfold.

Ayame glanced back and fore between the two feeling like she was being ganged up on, “Fine, only because Sango has seniority here.” She huffed, leaving.

“Thank you,” Rin said when they turned back to her.

“No problem, Ayame has been getting on my nerves all night.”

“You seem like you were really to smack her.”

“Close to.” Kagome laughed. She and Sango joined in.

“Ladies! What are you doing?” Said Kei.

“Work!” Said the girls simultaneously departing in three different directions.

Rin limped slightly carrying a tray with a bottle of scotch, ice, napkins and cups. Her ankle gave a minor nip of pain every time she took a step. She tried taking as much weight off it, yet there was only so much she could do while walking. Why does Yura find joy in causing other people’s misery? Also why did Yura have to kick her so hard, she could have tripped her without causing a bruise. (No, Rin doesn’t have a bruise on her ankle, but she’s pretty sure there will be one in the morning.) She thought the kick was only moderate when the male staff member helped her to the seat. (She remembered to thank him by the way.) Arriving at the room, Rin pushed the door open with her back, since the tray she was carrying was rather large and she needed two hands to balance it.

“One day everyone gets their just desserts.” She mumbled.

But was it really so wrong of Rin to wish that Yura got hers now. Turning around to begin setting the assorted items, she suddenly froze. Seconds later she could feel her cheeks growing warm and her eyes widening as she couldn’t help, but stare. At the finely toned man before her, her eyes were moving of their accord from his navel to the beginning of his ridged abs, moving up pale skin to the equally defined chest, shoulders, collar bone, sleek neck, firm jaws, lips… It was when she came to the eyes did reality come crashing back and her eyes widen for entirely different reason.

It’s Sesshoumaru! She mentally screamed. He again was staring at with those annoyed eyes, with cause by the way wear beautiful.

Quit staring at him, you idiot! Her inner yelled.

“Oh umm…” She fumbled, trying to say something, but her throat felt like it was closing up.

Put down the tray and leave the room.

“Umm Sorry.” Rin said looking around the room. “Um…I’m supposed to set up the room for…” Spotting the table near him. She moved a bit too quickly for her ankle to handle, stumbling forward she almost missed it, but managed to put it down with a bang. Causing a few things to bounce off onto the floor. “Sorry,” Rin said again kneeling down to them up.

Your making yourself look like a clumsily idiot. Said her inner voice.

I know, I know I’m hurrying!!!

Gathering up the last napkins, she surged up not mining her ankle. Unbalance she staggered forward right into him, her cheek against his bare chest. He’s warm. And he smells good; her inner voice treated itself to say.

“Gah! What going on here?” She jumped back at the surprise voice. Looking towards the doorway stood a short man with large eyeballs, a pointy nose with a matching chin, his mouth a jar. He was holding a white shirt in his left hand. Her heart was beating fast at what this man thought they were doing. The short man walked into the room and began question her and Sesshoumaru and lecture Sesshoumaru about his behavior all at the same time; not letting either of them have a chance to say anything in their defense. Through he was mostly speaking to Sesshoumaru.

Now’s a good time to excuse yourself, advised an inner voice.

How did this situation become like this, all she wanted was to thank him. Following the advice of her inner voice she bowed her head and started making her way to the door.

“Jaken!” Said a stern voice.

Rin stopped short of crossing the doorway, after hearing that name. She turned back towards them and pointed. “You!”
