The battle begins
A/N: Sorry for the short chapter. This is just kind of like a introduction of sorts into what will be happening over the next several chapters.
Chapter 12:
"Are you sure that we'll be able to find Naraku?" asked Kagome as she finished her morning meal. Jaken, being the 'caretaker', so to speak, for Sesshomaru, had prepared an excellent meal of scrambled eggs and bacon. The chickens and pig had been purchased from a local village.
Kagome at first had wanted to help pay for the food, but upon hearing how rich Sesshomaru really was, and knowing that she would have to labour for the services rendered, decided to accept a mulligan on this one. The demon lord looked up at her as she finished her question.
"You needn't worry." replied Sesshomaru, which didn't serve to reassure Kagome at all. The demon lord hadn't been talkative since last night, and she was starting to get a little pissed off at him.
"Could you please elaborate?" she inquired, letting a little of her anger mixed into her voice.
"No. Not yet." he replied. Ok, now she was getting really pissed off.
"Fine. If you won't tell me, then I'll go by myself." she said, standing up. She was wearing her uniform, freshly washed and dried, and Sesshomaru had provided her with a bow and a quiver of arrows. Said that way he wouldn't have to worry about defending her.
"I'm not stopping you." Sesshomaru added. When she heard him say this, Kagome wanted to tell him to "sit", but she had to remind herself that this was the wrong brother. Absently she wondered how Inuyasha and the others were doing. Instead, she gathered up her weapons, and made for the door.
"Fine, I'll see you later." uttered Kagome as she turned her back on him, and with a "humph", trodded out the door, heading out of his castle and out into the forest. Both Jaken and Rin watched her leave, then both of them turned to Sesshomaru, wondering if the demon lord would go after her.
"Any true hunter is wise enough to use bait to lure out his prey. Jaken, stay here and watch over Rin." ordered Sesshomaru. Standing from the table himself, he put on his armour and gathered up his swords. Suppressing his youkai energy, keeping a decent distance away from Kagome, he began stalking her, waiting for one of Naraku's minions to show up for another kidnapping attempt.

"I can sense a large sacred jewel nearby somewhere. It is highly corrupted, and without a doubt is the one Naraku has." reported Kikyo as she finished her meditation.
Inuyasha looked over to her before taking off in the direction that she had indicated the shard was in, his nose and other senses going into overtime as he hunted his prey. Sango flew up above on Kilala, looking for the elusive demon, while Miroku followed along on Shippou in his blimp form, seeing if Sango missed anything.
So far their search had been in vain, for no sign had been found of Naraku or his evil minions.
However, their luck as about to change. For the better or worse, had yet to be decided.
The sky turned a black purplish color, the sign of something dangerous approaching. The clouds parted, and out emerged a horde of undead soldiers and demons, Kagura leading from the front, Saimyosho intermixed with the horde.
"Wind scar" yelled Inuyasha as he let loose with the attack, aiming to wipe out the entire group with one blow. However, a purple barrier emerged from the horde and blocked the attack. Inuyasha was suprised to see Hakudoshi floating there, looking down on him with a smile.
"Dance of the blades" was Kagura's reply to his attack. Her attack, however, was aimed at Miroku and Shippou, who, the latter in his blimp form, could not dodge easily. Shippou was hit by several of the wind attacks, and transformed back into his regular form as he was knocked out. He and Miroku free fell through the air before being scooped up by Sango and Kilala.
"Adamant barrage", with this decalaration, Inuyasha's sword, encased in a layer of adamant, unleashed the spikes of steel. Rather than letting them cut through his barrier, both Hakudoshi, Kagura, and most of the horde dodged out of the way, a few undead soliders and bees being shredded to pieces.
However, in the next instant, half of the demon and undead horde disappeared as a sacred arrow engulfed them, helping to improve odds in their favour. Hakudoshi looked over at the miko in suprise, expecting to find Kagome traveling with the group instead of Kikyo.
'What is she doing here? And where is Kagome, if not with Inuyasha and his group. Could Sesshomaru have possibly taken her away?' wondered the little brat as his trusty pike formed in his hand.
Breaking away from the group, the little boy descended to attack Kikyo. Inuyasha got in between them, and parried his attack. The clang of steel on steel echoed throughout the forest as the two of them dueled.
In the meantime, both Sango and Miroku were battling with the remainder of the demon horde.
That left Kagura and Kikyo to face each other, alone. The former opened her fan, as the latter notched another sacred arrow into her bow....

Naraku watched the battle from afar, via his connection with Hakudoshi, observing through the latter's eyes. He was suprised himself to see Kikyo traveling with the group, and also wondered if Sesshomaru had taken Kagome into protective custody. At the very least, this possibility needed to be investigated. Soaring from their hives in the forest and from their dens in the mountians, demons and saimyosho alike took to the skies, headed towards the western lands.
One way or another he would soon find out....
