Chapter Eleven

Kagome pulled a thick navy quilt up to the newly seventeen-year-old girl’s chin. Sitting down on the bed she pinched her eyebrows together with a little concern on her face. Rin’s fever had come down in the last hour, but it wasn’t completely gone. Her sleeping face had her brows slightly tensed together and her lips drawn into a shaky line, she wondered if Rin was having a bad dream.

Earlier Kagome left the rec room in search of Rin thinking she probably gotten lost, because of how huge the house is. It’s understandable, since her first time in Inuyasha’s house she gotten lost as well. But when she entered the indoor poolroom she wasn’t expecting this. Inuyasha’s brother pulling Rin out of the water, she was unconscious and her month was turning blue. Kagome rushed forward to help, but he told her to run outside and find Keade. Keade their family doctor, she remembered meeting the elderly woman a couple of times. Keade even treated her once when she caught the chicken poxes from Inuyasha for a second time. Outside she managed to catch Keade before she finished getting inside her car. After strutting out the words that Rin was trouble. They rushed back into the house. In the poolroom she saw Rin coughing up water.

A good sign Kagome immediately thought.

Keade came forward and started examining Rin. She checked her pulse, and then felt her cheek and finally the pool’s water. Keade then announced that they needed to get her out of her cloths. The water was freezing cold and that was affecting her the most.

Kagome remembered that Inuyasha swan laps twice a week, he didn’t like to through. He would usually end up floating in the water dazing off into space. So in order to hurry up and get them done he turned the temperature’s water down to ice cold. He must of forgotten to turn it back it up.

Then Keade politely suggested to her that she should call Rin’s parents. She was really saying that you’re in the way. (She’s blocking the doorway) Kagome stepped out of the way letting Keade, her assistant and Sesshoumaru pass with Rin in his arms.

She did what Keade said and went back to the rec to get her cell phone. When she entered everyone seeing her worried expression ask her what was wrong. After telling them what had happen she was able to called Rin’s house, but the line kept ringing no one ever picked up.

Inuyasha’s brother excused himself once he put Rin into one of the downstairs bedroom, letting the doctor along with the assistant do their job. He probably went to change cloths, as he was soaked in the ice water as well. She hadn’t seen him since; expect hearing his voice outside the door a while ago asking Keade about the girl’s health.

“Hey,” Sango said coming inside the room, “How is she doing?”

“Fine. Her fever is just about gone,” she said standing up looking over to her, “Have you been able to get through to her house.”

“No, it just keeps ringing and never goes to the answering machine. I can’t leave a message.”

“Mm,” she answered discouragly.

“Come on let her rest. We know that she going to be as good as new morning the morning so it’ll be okay.” Sango said coming to stand in front of Kagome. “And also I wanted to tell you Kouga finally came out of the bathroom.”

“Really that’s great, but we should have thought about Kouga when Keade was still here. She probably could have done something for him. How does he look?”

“Bad, there’s nothing in his stomach to heave up anymore, Ayame’s going to take him to the hospital.” Sango glanced to Rin, “She’s crying.”

“Crying,” Kagome turned to see.

And Rin was on her face was two trails of flowing tears.

“A nightmare,” Sango said as she moved to sit down on the bed. She gently began stroking Rin’s head.

Her tears slowed and then stooped after a few minutes. “I used to do this for Kohaku when he had, nightmares.”

You’re so grown up Sango.” Kagome praised.

Sango gave a sad simple and replied, “I have to be.”

-

She snuggled closer into the cloth surrounding her skin. It feels so good she mentally thought. She shifted again just to feel the silk like-cloth caress her legs. She was settling comfortably back to sleep when she thought about it. My bed sheets don’t feel like this good!

Rin’s eyes snapped open; her brown eyes viewed a cherry colored nightstand, with an interesting patterned lamp on it. That not mine, mine’s is caramel with stickers all over it. Sitting up to look around, but she got distracted when the cover slipped off and she left chilly air come on contract with her bare skin.

“What happen to my cloths,” Rin spoke aloud.

She was wearing a T-shirt, no bra, black shorts, but no … undies.

Maybe I was… She started panicking. Why! Why, couldn’t the nice fluffy feeling be puffy clouds and I open my eyes to see the light.

“Wait slow down there must be an explanation for this,” Rin said trying to calm herself.

Remember what happened she told herself. It was New Years and my birthday, Kouga had gotten sick from eating the pink cake and he jailed himself in the bathroom for hours. I needed to use the bathroom so I had to go to another, but got lost on the way back. Inuyasha’s house is huge, I couldn’t find anyone to give me directions until I heard voices, but it was words that were none of my business. I stole away wondering around for a few minutes and finally came across the smell of the poolroom. I found it in seconds running inside, and then I felt my foot slip and I fell into the water. It was freezing…I can’t swim…couldn’t get to the surface… so cold…can’t scream…chorine…can’t breath…I can see the headlines girl dies in pool… then golden spheres.

“I don’t remember what happened next.” Rin looked around again, “I’m not dead.” She pinched her arm, “Felt that.” This room looks like ones of the rooms she found when she was searching for people to give her directions. So someone saved her. But who changed her cloths. Rin tilted her head to the side thinking, there were at least nine people here including everyone in the rec room and the people she spied on upstairs. Who could have gotten to her in time?

“You’re awake.”

“Uh?” Rin turned towards the voice.

“She awake!” Kagome shouted outside the room.

Kagome filed in along with Sango, Miroku and Inuyasha last.

“How do you feel?” Kagome asked.

While Sango leaned forward and touched her forehead, “Your fever is gon-” She suddenly stopped.

“Sango?” Rin asked in a questioning voice.

Sango’s face changed for shocked to fury. “You.” Her voice was filled with much malice it made Rin flinch. She turned around her fist already to find its target. “PERVERT!”

SMACK!

Inuyasha had to jump out of the way to dodge Miroku’s flying body. He crashed into the wall and slumped down to the floor.

“I couldn’t help it, cursed hand.” Miroku struggled to say holding up the offending object.

“Yeah right!” She fired back obviously not believing him.

“Sango remind not get on back your bad side,” Rin commented.

“Oh don’t worry perverts only,” she gave a pointed glare at Miroku.

He returned it with a weak smile.

After that they made sure Rin was okay and explained what happened to her cloths. It was Inuyasha’s brother who saved her and it was Kagura the woman she had a brief staring contest with changed her cloths.

“What time is it? Rin asked once she finished getting dress. When she opened the curtains in her room it was daylight. Kagome was showing her to the kitchen where everyone was.

“It’s 10:34 last time I looked.”

“I need to call my mom.”

“We did. We were finally able to get through about an hour ago.”

“Just an hour ago?”

“It’s not what you think,” Kagome said hearing the stress in her voice. “We tried for hours yesterday, but the phone kept ringing every time one of us tried calling. But finally we able to get though.”

“Yes?” she said eager to know what transpired.

“Apparently Yura came home and told your mom that we turned the party into a sleep over and she decided not to stay.”

“Leave it to Yura to come up with a conniving lie,” Rin mumbled.

“What was that?” Kagome asked.

“Did you tell my mother about the pool thing?”

“Couldn’t she was in a rush to get off the phone.”

“Hm.”

Kagome suddenly stepped in front of Rin forcing her to stop.

“Don’t worry Rin she knows your fine and plus your mom said, Tell Rin to come home any time.”

Rin wasn’t sure if that was supposed to make her feel better. However Kagome had a point her mother knew she was all right. So it was no need for her to be upset. She couldn’t help if she wanted her mother to need her as she did before. “Okay,” She smiled.

-

“Where do we go next?”

“Somewhere inside.” “Food.” “Movie.” “I’m hungry.”

“Okay we have takers on a movie or restaurant,” said Kagome.

Earlier in the kitchen everyone decided that today they would send the day outside. Rin wanted a chance to thank the man who saved her life, but Inuyasha said Sesshoumaru wasn’t here. She was disappointed. She didn’t want him to think that she didn’t have any manners. Rin also met Sango’s younger brother Kohaku. He’s a quiet boy and looks just like his sister. It turns out that Sango didn’t send the night she went home to check on Kohaku and came back with him in the morning. The only people to send the night were her, Miroku, and Kagome.

After finishing eating the group packed into Miroku’s car and went to visit Kouga. Ayame was there too, she was playing nurse to him. Which Kouga seem ready to kick her out, but wasn’t at full compactly to do so. He looked better through, and Rin was pretty sure it wasn’t from Ayame’s nursing.

Next, they went ice-skating much to Inuyasha dismay. When he said he couldn’t skate he really meant it. He must have has fallen on every part of his body, at least twice. He’ll have the bruises to show for it for a good while. Rin wasn’t a good skater as well. She kept herself glued to the wall, moving around the ring a slow circle Kagome stuck by Inuyasha periodically helping him up and being pulled down by him as well. Though surprising it was Miroku who was the best skate of all of them. He rounded the ring three times to anyone of there one. He even managed his perverted nature by fondling Sango on a pass by. But Sango caught up with him and throttled him thanks to Kohaku sticking his foot out.

After that they rested their wounds with some hot chocolate. Now they were currently walking around to find something to.

“I don’t want to a movie theater.” Voiced Sango.

“Don’t worry Sango I’ll keep you company in the dark,” said Miroku.

“That’s what I’m afraid of.”

“I’m cold let’s go somewhere inside.” Said Rin.

“No movie, the theater around here air-condition in the winter. We’ll be just as cold in there as we are in there as we are here.” Said Kagome, “Inuyasha where are you going?”

“I’m hungry, you guys can stand around, I’m going to find something to eat,” Inuyasha said crossing the street.

“Inuyasha!” Kagome shouted. He didn’t stop. “Fine, you’re paying!”

“I don’t care just hurry your slow asses up,” he yell from across the street.

-

“This is a fancy place. You think they’ll seat us,” said Kagome, considering they were all dressed in causal cloths. They were standing at the hostess desk waiting for the woman to come back.

“They better.” Inuyasha said. His stomach seemed to agree rumbling its hunger.

A few second later the hostess came back and seated them at a table. The service was fast and they were eating in no time.

“Inuyasha how did you know about this place.” Sango asked.

“I didn’t I smell food so I opened the door.”

Everyone laughed. “That Inuyasha for you.” Miroku commented.

“What?” Inuyasha said not getting it.

“You follow your nose.”

Rin however stopped listening when she spotted someone.

“Rin what are you looking at” Kagome noticing her distraction.

“It’s Naraku,” She said not turning around.

“Who?”

“My mother’s boyfriend over there. He’s with someone.

“A woman.” Kagome confirmed.

“We’re spying now,” Inuyasha stated.

“No, I just noticed that’s all.” Rin said turning back to the group. His words reminded her of what she had done at Inuyasha house it wasn’t her business.

-

8:11 pm

It was the time when Rin made it home. Standing on the sidewalk she waved good-bye to her friends as she watched the car drive down the street. Today was good day. Rin smiled, she hand reached up and touch her chest. She grasped, patting her chest to make sure it wasn’t there. Gone! How could she have lost it? Rin desperately started searching her pockets. Not there. How could she have gone all day without noticing it was missing?

Think, think, think, where I loosed it. I never took it off while I was at Inuyasha house. I didn’t put it on in the morning. Could the clap have broken? No. I don’t know. But it must be there it just has to be. Please!

Looking down the street for the car, but it had already turned the corner.

“I got to called them.” Ran panicked, rushing up to her house. She fumbled putting the keys in the lock. Finally she was able to get the door open only to be greeted by darkness. An eerily atmosphere made her stop just after two steps inside. What is this she thought as a prickly cold feeling ran down her spine.

Don’t go in. A voice said.
But I need it. She argued. It’s the only thing I have left of them!

With her resolve set, she surged forward closing the door behind her. Finding the light switch she flipped it on.

“Welcome home, Rin.”

“Naraku,” she paused mid-stride. He stood in the middle of the living room. “Hello, um excuse me.” She left going into the kitchen.

“I’ve something wrong?”

“I’ve-” Rin paused when she noticed how close he was. “I’ve left my- your making me uncomfortable.”

He was close enough that she could feel his body heat. “Really.” He whispered.

Get away!

Taking the advise of her inner voice she did just the that. But wasn’t able to complete a step for his hands clamped down hard like claws on her waist. Pain shot through her causing her to cry out.

“I need something, Rin.”

“Let go!” she said struggling to get free.

“And you have it, Rin.”

She cringed at the sound of his voice. Twisting her body she manage to jerk herself free, running into the living room what happen next she was didn’t know, but her body was suddenly thrown against the wall. And a hand grabbed her neck pinning her in place. It was Naraku grinning at her with sadistic red eyes.

Red eyes!

That was real convent to notice that is eyes changed color, when her windpipe was being crashed. Her arms and legs struggle was fruitless trying to knock his iron grip away. Each punch and kick let even more dark clouds creep into her version. Her lungs burning calling for air, but little to none was coming in, she couldn’t anything.

Then he let go.

Rin sled down to the floor coughing in air, Naraku kneel down in front of her. His hand came up to her chin tilting her head up so she looked at him on eye level. She wanted to slap his hand away from her chin, but didn’t have any strength left to lift her arm. His face lost it sadistic smirk instead there was a grim line. She didn’t know what the look meant, but it probably wasn’t good. He took his hand away from her face and she managed to keep it up. At that moment she wished she had let her head drop, because she saw it coming.

Naraku stood up and kicked the unconscious girl, “Worthless.”

“Your so impatient father, Yura said coming downstairs, “Here I thought I was the one.”

“What it is it, Yura?” He was in no mood for games.

“Fine. You failed to notice the way she paused at the door. Little sis felt your youki.”
