“Happy New Year!!!” They cheered. On TV they watched the ball descend and the fireworks that followed.
“Wait, wait, wait one minute!” Rin said.
“What’s wrong?”
“Just wait one minute.”
And they did wait everything quiet expect for the music blasting and the bangs and pops from the TV. Inuyasha stuff himself with more of cake and ice cream. Kagome and Sango each just stood and waited with confuse expressions. Miroku was laid out on the floor after rubbing Sango’s butt when they were dancing. Ayame and Kouga, well Kouga never left the bathroom after eating some of Ayame’s cake and she's been scratching at the door ever since. That was a few hours ago.
The little clock in the corner of the TV turned to 12:01.
“This is the exact the time I was born.”
“Exactly” said Miroku regaining consciousness.
“Well, I don’t know about the second, but the 12:01 is right.”
“I think it’s nicet to be born on a holiday, it kind a like being specially selected,” said Kagome sitting down.
“Yeah I think so too,” Sango agreed sitting also.
“Nah, I don’t think it that’s special people just get all gushy over you when they find out.” Rin said.
Kagome and Sango looked at each other.
The pause told her, she was right, “You all did get all gushy!” She laughed.
“So what, we were born on normal boring days where nothing happens.” Said Kagome.
Miroku listening came over and said, “If you want your birthday to be special Sango I’ll be happy to come over.”
Sango’s face turned red, “Pervert,” she reached out and smacked him.
“I’m only offering,” he said rubbing the soon to be bump on his head.
“Well I don’t want any!”
A mischievously grin formed on Rin’s face. She sat directly in front of Sango and said, “Hey Sango wasn’t there a time when you didn’t mind Miroku’s…” She let her voice trail off knowing Sango knew what she was saying.
Miroku not missing a beat took a seat next to Sango and took her hand into his saying, “Should I tell them or you, honey.” He had a goofy smile on his face. He knew he was going to get it for this, but it was worth it to see her pretty face turn change shades.
Here it comes Rin thought.
POW!!!
“Agrh!” Miroku yelled as he flew off the crouch he landed face down on the blue carpet and didn’t move to get up.
Rin burst out laughing.
“You’re going to get some too Rin-,” Sango stopped short at the sound of another’s laugher, “Kagome!” Seconds later she signed in defeat after seeing Inuyasha laughing as well. Then she started laughing too.
Rin went to go see how Kouga was doing. “How is he,” She asked Ayame.
“He hasn’t come out yet, not even a cracked the door open a little,” Ayame answered sadly.
“Hey Kouga are you feeling any better,” she knocked on the door.
“Hell no, what the fuc-cough, cough was in that *Cough! Sounds of throwing up.”
“That doesn’t sound good. What did you put in the cake?”
“I didn’t mean it,” Ayame winced tears shining in her eyes.
“I’m sorry I know you didn’t do it on purpose. I’m sure he will be okay.”
Ayame shook her head feebly and went back to her post waiting for Kouga to come out.
Well this was a problem if he wasn’t coming out soon, because she really had to go. But now that she thought about it she wouldn’t want to use the bathroom right after a sick person.
“Hey Inuyasha,” she walked over to him by the table with the cakes.
He turned his attention to her while swallowing another piece of Kagome’s cake.
“Where’s another bathroom Kouga doesn’t seem to be coming out anytime soon.”
Inuyasha bust out laughing, “Everybody saw that cake didn’t look right as soon as Ayame cut into it.”
“But Kouga only saw the frosting, it’s not his fault.”
“He’s an idiot for not asking why she spread the frosting all over the entire slice. She was covering up those green things.”
“Let me alone, I didn’t mean it,” Ayame cried from across the room. She must have heard what he was saying.
“Inuyasha, she already feels bad enough! Shut up about it!” Kagome said from the couch, hearing his words as well.
“Keh! What did you want anyway Rin?”
“Where another bathroom? Since Kouga isn’t coming out anytime soon.”
“Go right and until the intersection then left all then way to the door. You’ll in up in the pool and then just look for the girl’s locker room.
“Thanks.” And she left following the directions perfectly. It was the way back that became the problem.
Wait a minute why I am not in the poolroom. Rin looked around; she was standing in the middle of a hallway. The locker room must have two entrances, so all she’d have to do is go…back…
“No,” she said shaking the doorknob it’s locked.
Jingling the knob for a few more seconds, she gave up. There’s another way to get to the pool, but she hadn’t paid any attention, because she was wrapped up thinking about what Yura had done. Stupid Yura. But there was one thing she did know Inuyasha’s house is huge like a mansion or something so that probably meant there are maids and butlers wondering around here somewhere. She'll find one of them and ask for directions.
Picking a random path right or left she went along checking doors as she walked. She found a kitchen, no one was there, stairs, but didn’t go up them, a study, a large library, (She was tempted to go see what books they have) some bedrooms, a bar with a pool table, a really big living room, a few locked doors, the front door (I think) and still she couldn’t find anyone around. What do they do clean the whole house themselves, because she didn’t see a speck of dust on anything, or maybe housekeeping only worked in the daytime. Or they are on holiday it is New Years. One thing for sure the interior decorator did a great job the house was beautiful. Now that statement didn’t have much to do with her situation, but she did notice it.
Now she found another flight of stairs. It couldn’t hurt to go up them, Rin thought, nobody’s on the first floor (that if I search the entire floor). She ascended the stairs slowly with caution. Guests aren’t supposed to go upstairs without the host’s okay.
What if she got caught? Caught! I’m lost remember. If she got caught the owner might think she was trying to steal something. Seeing as she was still a newbie and hadn’t met any of the parents so they could at least recognize her as Inuyasha friend. Why would the owner believe her when she’ll say, ‘I got lost on my way back from the bathroom.’ They’ll call the police on her.
“Stop it imagination,” Rin scolded herself.
Inuyasha probably had to tell his dad that he was having guests over and since this house is really big maybe Kagome and the others gotten lost too, at one time or another. Reaching the top step she paused and listened. Nothing, oh well back downstairs.
Chicken! Her inner voice whispered. Shut up she mentally respond. She still had the vision of herself in handcuffs in her head.
You just have to find someone and it’ll be done.
Didn’t I tell you be quiet!
Her mental argument suddenly ended when she heard voices. Against her better judgment she crept towards it.
And this doesn’t make you look like a theft slithering closer, like that.
Shut up!
The sound led her to door, it was cracked open inside Rin saw a part of a round table, an elderly woman with an eye patch and standing by her a young woman that looked to be in her twenty’s.
“Inutasiho shall recover fully in two weeks, but knowing him he will be moving around in three days. I will return then.” Said the elderly woman.
“As always Keade I am grateful for your services,” Responded a voice.
Rin couldn’t see who the voice belonged to, but knew it was from a male.
“I’m leaving behind some medicine to cleanse his system, brew with tea once a day.” Keade nodded to the young woman next to her, “Kagura.”
Kagura went into a bag she was carrying and took out a small glass bottle. She walked forward out of Rin’s vision.
She didn’t want to risk being discovered by opening the door a little more. Oh God what was she thinking first she was half frighten to death about being lost, then freaking out about going up the stairs, and now she was spying! She was being bad; she shouldn’t be hearing this it was none of her business. Rin crept away quietly as she came.
At the bottom of the stairs she heard, “We shall take our leave, Sesshoumaru.”
Sesshoumaru! She gasped and turned around that’s-
Her breath hitched in her throat, at the top of the stairs was Kagura. Caught! Was the word that rang in her head. She looked down at her in puzzlement. Neither one of them knew what to do, but if Rin stood there any longer she will be caught.
Rin broke eye contact and walking away leaving the woman wondering about her.
Great, she was back where she started lost, in the really big living room. Seeing a door a she didn’t recognize she went for it. It wasn’t locked. Going through she paused when a faint smell pass by her nostrils.
Chorine! The pool is near by!
Rin let her nose led the way, it wasn’t long before she found what she was look for.
“Finally,” she said relieved, viewing the blue water.
Not wasting anytime Rin ran along the deep side, just the way they came before. Running across she felt her foot slipped.
“Ah!” She yelled failing to keep her balance. She fell into the water.
-
“Kouga… Kouga,” Ayame whispered to the door.
Her answer was a series of coughs and curses then she heard the water running.
“Kouga,” she winced again to the door.
“Is he feeling any better?”
Ayame look back to see Kagome and gave her a death glare, then turn back to the door. Kagome almost felt sorry for Ayame if she could get over the fact that she didn’t like Kouga that way. Maybe next time Ayame could taste her own cooking. Suddenly they heard a click of the lock, unlocking, the door opening and Kouga emerged. He still looked a bit sick.
“How do you feel?” Kagome asked. She earned another glare from Ayame, which she naturally ignored.
“A little better I think-,” He was cut short by a loud gurgling sound coming from his stomach. Kouga clutched his mid-section and cover his month with the other. He ran back in to the bathroom shutting the door.
“Kouga!” Ayame rushed back to her post at the door.
“Feel better,” Kagome said then walked away. There wasn’t anything she could do expect hope he got better soon.
That reminded her, “Where did Rin go?” She saw her leave a while ago.
