Kagome walked slowly, kicking a pebble along in front of her. She never really minded hunting shards; it just got so boring sometimes. It didn’t really help that Inuyasha had been so pissy lately. She blew a piece of hair out of her face. As she glanced in front of her at Inuyasha. Her face automatically formed a grimace. ‘He really pisses me off sometimes‘, she thought. Inuyasha turned back towards her.
“What are you lookin at? What’s with that face?”
“I’m still mad at you ya know.” She knew she sounded like a child but she stopped caring a long time ago.
“Are you kiddin me?! You’re such a baby!”
“Shut up and just keep walking.” Kagome actually drew some pleasure from giving him a hard time. She didn’t think he even took her seriously anymore. Come to think of it, she doubted he ever did. She frowned again.
“Kagome, pick up the pace. You’re slowing me down.”
“Well if I’m such a bother, just go on without me!” She found great pleasure in this. She knew how it would play out. It was still fun. It was one of the few ways to get Inuyasha’s attention.
“OH shut up you loud mouth pain in the ass. You know I need you to come along. So be quiet. Just speed it up.” His tone was harsh, but he was far from angry with Kagome. Inuyasha liked to play these games with her.
“Why don’t you carry me? OH WAIT! Maybe because I am getting fat?!!? IS THAT IT!?”
“WOW you sure are pain. I can’t believe you are still mad about that.”
“I am not mad...I am just terribly insulted”, Kagome said in a matter of fact tone. They continued to walk and keep a distance between them. She knew he didn’t mean to insult her. Kagome was just hoping by some miracle, he would compliment her. Maybe try and mend her feelings. She knew Inuyasha didn’t just hand out kind words to anyone. They came too few and far between for her.
Inuyasha stopped and turned around to face Kagome. “Look, if it’ll speed you up, I’ll say I‘m sorry.”
“Yeah sure...IF YOU MEANT IT!”
“Well I didn’t try to piss you off...so I don’t think I should have to apologize.”
Kagome was starting to get a little worked up. She just wanted him to care. “I’m done talking about this. If it’s that important that I maintain a steady JOG, then I will. But this is done. I am finished arguing.” Kagome was sick of their little spats not getting anywhere. Even though she started the “fight”, she now regretted it. If she got anymore upset she might say something inappropriate.
“Whatever. You started it. Just be quiet and keep up.” Inuyasha didn’t understand why had had to make things so difficult. “If you wanna act normal you can come walk with me.”
Kagome sighed and quickened her pace to catch up with Inuyasha. No mattow oow often they argued and disagreed, she enjoyed his company.
“’Bout time.” Inuyasha smiled at her. That was the last thing Kagome expected. Her heart dropped a bit. She looked away and tugged at her skirt. “What?” Inuyasha asked when he noticed her sudden changed in attitude.
“Nothing!” Kagome tried to keep from blushing.
“Nothing my ass!! What’s you problem now? You don’t talk tofor for an hour. Then you start bitchin at me. Now you’re all shy and reserved. YEAH RIGHT!”
Kagome huffed. She began to get angry. The constant back and forth between them exhausted her. She felt defeated. Her anger faded and she sighed. “I was just surprised. That’s it. OK?”
“Surprised about what?”
“I didn’t think you liked walking with me.”
“Are you stupid?” Inuyasha snapped. Not out of anger, but from slight shock at her words.
“Why do you always have to be such an asshole? I tried to be honest for once and you treat me like a moron!”
Inuyasha softened a bit. “Well jeez...I mean that’s a stupid thing to say.”
“Why is that stupid? You bite my head off for everything and...”
“And you bite my head off too!” he cut Kagome off. “That’s just how we act. Right?”
“Yeah I guess.”
“Well then, of coarse I like to walk with you. Now shut up.” Inuyasha gave her a quick smile. Then reached down and gave her hand a quick squeeze. Kagome’s heart skipped a beat. They continued to walk
