What A Girls Gotta Do

Chapter 1

            Well it finally happened.  Her grandfather, the last of her family had passed away.  She had been living with him at the shrine her whole life.  She had quit her job a few months ago because he had been doing better and they no longer needed the extra money for his hospital bills.  Then suddenly he just passed away one night in his sleep.  Her whole world fell apart.  She lost the last of her family, used most of her money to pay for the funeral, and then she was informed that she had one month to vacate the premises.  The place she had always called home was going to be taken away, the place with all of her memories from childhood. 

            She had searched the entire month for a place to live, but there were no places available.  She was becoming more depressed by the day.  She had to go with the only option.  It was an expensive house with two guys looking for a roommate.  They wanted someone that would not cause trouble and preferably could cook.  Luckily they figured she met their specifications, so now here she was moving her stuff into her new room.  She had a sinking feeling in her stomach though.  She knew she would have to go back to her old job just to afford the rent.  She was hoping that she would never have to go back, but nothing seemed to be going her way lately.  So here she was, she hadn’t seen any of her roommates so she just quietly started to take stuff in.  She was about halfway done when she heard someone approaching her.

            “Hey wench, need any help?”

            She tried to keep her anger in check, she hated it when he called her that.  She almost attacked him during the interview because he kept calling her names.  She took a deep breath, put the box down and turned around to face the younger of her roommates. “Hello, Inuyasha, I didn’t think anyone was home.”

            “I just got back from picking up the brats and Sess is still at work,” he said looking down at the two children at his sides.

            She looked down at the kids and smiled.  One was a small boy kitsune with red hair that frizzed out and the other was a small girl with dark hair and big brown eyes. “Hello, and what are your names?”

            The boy smiled and walked up to her, “My name is Shippo and that’s Rin.  Are you our new nanny?”

            “Nanny?”

            “UH, hey guys why don’t you go in and watch TV while I talk to Kagome for a minute,” Inuyasha said quickly pushing them toward the door with a guilty look on his face.  He should have known those brats wouldn’t keep their mouths shut.  He looked back at Kagome and saw the anger sparking in her blue eyes like lightening.  She was a beautiful girl, but she was scary when she was angry.  He could feel her miko powers fluctuating and sure as hell did not want to get purified.

            After they were inside Kagome turned to Inuyasha, “Ok, did I miss something here?”

            Inuyasha rubbed the back of his head and looked down.  Damn Sesshomaru and his backwards plan.  It was all his idea to try to trick her into babysitting now and then without pay.  Why was he always the one left to explain?  ”Well, we were thinking that maybe sometimes you could help watch the kids when Sess has extra work to do at home or I’m busy working on something,” he mumbled.

            “So let me get this straight, I am supposed to cook dinner for yall every night, work as a nanny for free and still pay rent?” she all but screamed at him.  Her face blushing with her anger.

            “ And make breakfast for the kids, but I am sure we can lower the rent a little in exchange for you watching the kids now and then,” he said.  She looked beautiful when she blushed, to bad it was because she was angry.

            “Well when you see about that then you can talk to me about watching the kids, but until then you can take care of your own kids,” she said turning away from him.

            “Well they are not both mine.  Sesshomaru adopted Rin about a year ago, and I took in Shippo after his parents passed away about two years ago.”

            Kagome had picked her box back up while he was talking and he couldn’t help but look at her but.  Those jeans fit her perfectly.  As she started to straighten up he grabbed a few boxes real quick. “Well that was sweet of yall to take in those two, they really are cute.”

            “Yeah, wait till you get to know them, they can be real terrors.”

            Kagome couldn’t help but laugh at that statement.  She loved kids and she knew how they could be.  Inuyasha couldn’t believe how musical her laughter sounded.  He followed her up to her room with the boxes and had just set them down when his phone rang.

            “Hello?”

            “Inu Baby, what are you doing?” his girlfriend Kikyo’s voice practically screeched through the phone.

            “I’m helping my roommate move in.  what’s up with you babe?”

            “I wanted to see you, can I come over?”

            Inuyasha covered the phone and excused himself then walked out of the room. 

            Kagome closed the door behind him and decided it was time to make the call she had been dreading.  She picked up her cell phone and dialed the number.  After a few rings it picked up, “Hello?”

            “Hey Miroku, it’s Kagome,” she said feeling that old gloom return.
