Chapter 1: The Past

‘OMG, school is boring on Thursday’s. I hope Mr. Taka’s exam is gonna be easy.’

Kagome sat in her music class waiting for the teacher Mr. Taka to tell them what their exam was gonna be and she hated that he was so long winded with everything. Finally he rose from his seat and cleared his throat.

“Tomorrow is you mid term as you all know and for your mid term I want you to tell a story using three songs of your choice. You’ll come up and sing your songs personally so chose something school appropriate. You’re dismissed.”

Kagome stood and strolled out of the class with the rest of her classmates only she unlike them was trying to avoid seeing the crush of her life and her recently made ex-boyfriend who happened to be brothers. She went to her locker and threw her books in then hurried from the school building pulling out her Ipod as she walked she clicked over to David Archuleta’s song Crush and sighed heading home in a daze. She was pulled from her thoughts when she saw her ex’s car driving beside her.

“Hey babe, hop in.”

She glanced over.

“No Inuyasha I’m fine.”

She wanted to be as far away from Inuyasha as possible and his brother was the reason why. Okay Inuyasha himself had caused her to start avoiding him but his brother and what had happened between them didn’t make things easier. She ducked into the park playground and across it running up the stairs to the shrine that was her home. Walking into the house she said hello to her mother before running up to her room and falling across her bed with a silent moan of disgust for herself.

“I am such a bad person.”

Closing her eyes she willed her life to fade into the dark peacefulness of sleep until dinner but that was too much to ask for. Just then her phone rang, when she saw who it was she couldn’t help but smile.

“Hey Sesshomaru.”

“Kagome.”

“What can I do for you?”

“I want to see you. Go out with me tonight.”

Her heart froze in her chest and she felt not only her heart soar with happiness but instantly break because she knew she shouldn’t go.

“What time do you want me to be ready?”

The line was silent for a short moment.

“10:30.”

“Ok, just call me when you’re outside.”

“See you tonight.”

She hung up and sighed she wasn’t going to go out with a heavy heart she’d been avoiding Inuyasha for the last two months because of what she’d seen him doing with Kikyo Hurameshi the head cheerleader in school behind the bleachers.

~Flashback~

Kagome walked around the back of the school looking for Inuyasha he should have been off the field by now but she knew he sometimes lingered behind the rest of the team and simply stood out on the field reliving the game. She walked toward the bleachers and was about to call his name when she heard his name being moaned softly. She stayed silent not believing she’d heard what she thought she’d heard. But she heard it again a bit louder this time. She turned when she felt someone close behind her. It was Sesshomaru and even though her body heated up at how close he was to her she tried to ignore him in favor of looking for Inuyasha.

“Try behind the bleachers.”

His lips were right by her ear, making her shiver and close her eyes momentarily. Nodding mutely because she didn’t trust herself to speak she walked over and looked behind the bleachers and sure enough there was Inuyasha and he wasn’t by himself. Underneath him lay Kikyo naked as he was. Her chest hurt so bad she turned around and walked toward her house not really noticing that Sesshomaru had left the field before her. She was walking through the student parking lot when she heard a horn to her right. Looking up with tear stained cheeks and dead eyes she saw Sesshomaru leaning against his car.

“Need a ride?”

She felt weak all of a sudden and nodded mutely almost collapsing into the passenger seat of his car.

“He’s not worth the tears so don’t cry.”

“What did I do wrong?”

She turned then to face him her eyes wet with tears and her chest aching for a release of emotion. Gold clashed with blue and locked.

“Nothing, the half-breed knows nothing more then what you just saw. Disrespect, lack of loyalty, and lies are all he’s good at. He’ll do enough to get what he wants and that’s all once he has it there’s no need to pretend anymore. She was only what you would have been sooner then you think.”

~End Flashback~

Taking a quick shower Kagome dressed in a short dark blue strapless dress that matched her eyes and clung to her chest and stomach before falling to the middle of her thigh gracefully. She sat in front of her mirror and thought what to do with her hair. She didn’t have bangs but thinking she grabbed her scissors and cut herself some long bangs that stopped at her lips and made a part off to the left of her head and brushed her bangs to the right and pinning them there before pulling the rest of her hair into a bun at the nape of her neck. She smiled loving the look with her new salon blue highlights mixing in perfectly with her natural blue highlights. Next, she put on lip-gloss and smoky black eye shadow, turning she slipped on her heels and left her room heading downstairs. She already knew what songs she was singing in class tomorrow and so she didn’t have any homework. Glancing at the kitchen clock as she walked in she saw it was almost 10:30 and felt her stomach flutter in anticipation. Rika Higurashi, her mother, sat at the table smiling to herself it was always the same and she couldn’t help but think that Sesshomaru was better for Kagome then Inuyasha. It was all in her actions, she was always nervous when Sesshomaru was coming to get her but looked bored when Inuyasha came for her. Just as the doorbell rung Kagome stood from the table smoothing her dress nervously.

“Have fun dear.”

“Thanks momma.”

Kagome walked to the door and opened it only to find Inuyasha at her door and not Sesshomaru.

“What are you doing here Inuyasha?”

“I came to see why you’ve been avoiding me Kags…I miss being with you all the time.”

He looked sad but she had grown to see with Sesshomaru’s help that he was faking it.

“No, you don’t Inuyasha. It’s over between us it has been since that night two months ago when I saw you fucking Kikyo behind the bleachers. Now leave my house and don’t come back.”

It was then that Sesshomaru pulled up and looked up at them.

“I’m gone momma.”

“Ok dear.”

She closed the door behind herself and walked right pass Inuyasha toward Sesshomaru’s car. He was waiting for her and leaning against it silently.

“You’re dumping me to be with my brother? You’re more of a whore then I thought when I started dating you.”

Kagome froze and turned to face him her anger making her powers flare to life.

“You stupid idiot. I was in love with you wanted to be with you and you broke my heart with the sight I found behind the bleachers. I got over you with your brothers help. But who I decide to spend time with no longer has anything to do with you. I could be fucking the pope, the Japanese president and the president of the United States and it would have nothing to do with you now leave my home and don’t return unless you want me to purify you to the lowest level of hell.”

Sesshomaru walked forward and gently took Kagome’s fingers into his own and messaged them gently. She calmed at the contact but her powers still remained close to the surface. She let Sesshomaru guide her to his car and slipped inside releasing a sigh when he settled inside and pulled from the curb heading toward the club he’d decided to take her to. Kagome within the first three minutes of being so close to Sesshomaru and having his fingers intertwined with her own calmed and just stared out the window with a small smile on her face. By the time Kagome and Sesshomaru left the club it was almost four in the morning and she was dead tired. He drove silently looking over to find her asleep after the first ten minutes of the drive.

He didn’t want to disturb Ms. Higurashi trying to get Kagome home and so headed home and laid her in his bed before changing and climbing in himself and pulling her to his chest. He’d woken up Rin, his younger sister, and with her assistance changed Kagome into one of his shirts without seeing anything more then her bare legs. When Kagome woke up she was more then a little confused as to where she was and why she was in a t-shirt she hadn’t personally put on. She was also wondering where her dress was. When she saw Sesshomaru staring at her she smirked.

“How did you change my clothes Sesshomaru?”

“Rin, helped.”

She nodded smiling and sat up stretching lazily before falling back against him with a smile. Rin knocked on the door and peeked her head inside smiling when she saw Kagome was up.

“Hey Kagome, umm if you need clothes you can wear some of mine we look to be about the same size.”

Kagome stood and left the room with her walking pass Inuyasha’s room and into Rin’s. Looking at all Rin’s clothes she selected a pair of light blue flare hip hugger jeans and a short sleeved white t-shirt that was a little too short and showed off a bit of her mid riff. Thanking Rin with a hug she returned to Sesshomaru’s room and lounged across his bed waiting for him to get out of the shower she was happy she’d taken her shower last night and wasn’t a heavy sweater or she’d have been in trouble and though she was a bit upset there wasn’t time for her to go home and shower before school but she had extra under clothes at school since she had gym. She dressed and used Sesshomaru’s brush to return her hair to the style it had been in when he picked her up last night liking the look as a casual one as well as a dressy one. Flipping open her phone she sent her mother a text message saying she was at Sesshomaru’s and would be home after school.

Sesshomaru emerged from his personal bathroom in a pair of black jeans his shirt still lying on his bed. Kagome ducked passed him and into his bathroom looking at her reflection. He handed her an extra toothbrush and a washcloth. Kagome thanked him and washed her face and brushed her teeth before she reapplied her eye shadow and some lip-gloss for the day.

“Ready?”

“Yeah lets go.”

They left out of his room and went down toward the kitchen. When they walked in everything went silent. Inuyasha staring at the both of them and Touga and Carena staring at Sesshomaru in question.

“Morning Kagome.”

“Morning Lady Carena Lord Touga.”

They smiled and offered her a plate of food which Kagome happily accepted all the while ignoring Inuyasha as if he were invisible or didn’t exist all together. Noticing the building tension Touga spoke up.

“What happened between the three of you that has you all so tense?”

Inuyasha looked down at his food and remained quiet, Sesshomaru said nothing feeling it was more on Kagome or Inuyasha since it was technically more between them.

“Inuyasha cheated on me with Kikyo the head cheerleader.”

“So why did you come down with Sesshomaru?”

“We spend time together now but we have no titles between us other then friends right now.”

Touga nodded and sipped his coffee just as Rin came in.

“Oh, Sesshomaru can you help me with a project I have in science? It’s due this coming Friday.”

He shook his head.

“I have a project I must work on as well. I’m not available to help you.”

Rin looked highly upset but said nothing as she sat down.

“Why don’t you stay over my house Sunday and Monday night Rin and I’ll help you with your project?”

Rin’s eyes glowed a bit and she smiled nodding happily.

“If that’s okay with you and Lady Carena of course Lord Touga?”

“Of course it is fine ask you mother though to be sure Kagome.”

Kagome nodded and when she and Sesshomaru left they went straight to the school getting a lot of attention when they both stepped from the car. Sesshomaru’s usual fan club was waiting for him and was more then pissed off to see Kagome walking by his side as they talked casually. She was telling him about her midterm in Music and he was silently wondering what she sounded like singing.

“What period do you have his class?”

“Last.”

“I may come see you sing.”

Kagome blushed and nodded a bit but said nothing. Sesshomaru smirked to himself it was easy to read Kagome and he could tell that while she wanted him to come see her she was a bit nervous about it as well. The day passed in a blur and soon Kagome had reached the end of the day and was heading for her music class she shook her head when she saw Sesshomaru sitting calmly in the back of the room directly in front of her seat. She sat down and tugged on his hair with a playful smirk. Resisting the urge to laugh when he growled softly. A loud disturbance was heard in the hall and the classroom door was closed as a fight broke out. Kagome reached forward and again gently tugged his hair before running her fingers through his hair scratching at his scalp lightly. He growled a bit louder this time and she giggled before stopping.

“Woman you are going to find yourself in a situation you can’t get out of if you continue this behavior.”

Kagome laughed again and scratched at his scalp a bit more while playing in his hair until he felt the teacher and a few more of her classmates coming. He turned and pulled her into a kiss releasing her just as the door was starting to open. She looked at him with dazed eyes and sighed before sticking her tongue out. Other students were starting to fill the room but he pulled her close again.

“Stick your tongue out again Kagome and it will be put to use properly.”

Kagome blushed three shades of red darker then he’d ever before seen and he smirked before turning around ignoring the looks they were getting from the other students. She tugged his hair again a little harder this time and felt the growl he was suppressing in his chest when she traced a star on his shoulder. It was almost time to go when Kagome’s turn to sing came and she was nervous because Sesshomaru was watching and she didn’t want to screw up in front of him.

“What songs are you singing Kagome and what story do they tell?”

“One tells the story of my father and me, the others I want to see if anyone can figure out what they represent. I’m singing Missing and Lithium by Evanescence and Freak on a Leash by Korn ft. Amy Lee of Evanescence.”

She walked over to the CD player and put in the CD with the music. Waiting a few moments she sighed and closed her eyes as the music for Missing started and she started to sing.

To say the class was in shock of her voice was an understatement. She could feel tears welling up in her eyes and closed them to keep them at bay she would not cry in front of my peers and be seen as weak. An more importantly she wouldn’t let them see how much her past hurt her even now so many years after the death of her father. When the song ended she took a small breath and waited for the music for Freak on a Leash to start.

When the song was over again the class was left in shock the ranges in those songs were completely different and she’d pulled off both songs perfectly. She on the other hand still didn’t meet the eyes of anyone in the class not sure if she would see disgust on their faces and that she couldn’t handle. The music for Lithium started and she took a deep breath and released it before starting.

When the song was over Kagome got her CD out of the CD player and returned to her seat but felt nothing but eyes on her. Finally looking up she saw nothing but smiling and awed faces. Then Sesshomaru started to clap and the entire class including Mr.Taka joining in. But she looked at only Sesshomaru smiling with a gentle blush on her cheeks. Her entire body relaxed and she thanked them all finally looking away from Sesshomaru. The class ended a few minutes later and she was happy it had. Then it hit her it was Friday and school was over she had the whole weekend in front of her. Throwing her books into her locker she went to the pool and changed into her bathing suit and started swimming laps. By the time she had finished her laps she’d swam over 800 meters and she was tired and her muscles ached. She walked into the locker room and took a long hot shower before she dressed and headed out of the building. She saw Sesshomaru’s car still parked in the lot and wondered what he was still doing here. She walked toward the gym thinking he might be there and sure enough there he was with a few others all of them practicing kendo. Sesshomaru was obviously a master of sword use Touga had told her several stories of war in the feudal era and how Sesshomaru had often fought at his side. She settled on the bleachers and watched them all. Sesshomaru walked around correcting two peoples form before having them spar each other. He saw her but said nothing just smirked a bit, when he caught Kagome looking at his bare chest. After another twenty minutes he sent the rest of the small group off to the locker room and looked over at her. Kagome walked toward him picking up one of the discarded little swords and studied it. Before she looked up at him.

“I forgot you could use a sword.”

“I thought you left after your class.”

Kagome shook her head.

“I was swimming laps in the pool. My thighs are killing me.”

“I need to take a shower then I’ll take you home.”

Kagome smiled and nodded and unconsciously laid a hand on his chest when she kissed him softly. She looked down at her hand and wrinkled her nose though she was smiling.

“Ewww, you’re all sweaty and disgusting.”

Sesshomaru smirked and pulled her flush against him and she laughed and wrapped her arms around him.

“Now I need a shower.”

Sesshomaru picked her up and put her over his shoulder and started walking to the locker room.

“An where might you be taking me Sesshomaru?”

“To take a shower in the locker room, Ka-go-me.”

She blushed and squirmed in his arms telling him to put her down though she was trying to hold down her blush as well. He set her on her feet by the locker room door neither of them caring that the football team was coming to use the shower from practice. Pinning her to the wall he looked down at her.

“So you will not take a shower with me then?”

Kagome blushed tomato red and looked away. Sesshomaru turned her face to his and made her look at him.

“Is that a no then?”

“We’re at school Sesshomaru.”

“So you would take a shower with me just not in school. Nice to know for next time you stay with me over night.”

Kagome’s blush darkened and she crossed her arms pouting. Sesshomaru pulled her into his arms and turned so his back was against the wall instead of hers and kissed her slowly letting Kagome’s surprise fade. She started kissing him back her arms going around his neck as Inuyasha and the rest of the football team came around the corner. Inuyasha’s face flushed with anger and a growl ripped threw him. Kagome pulled away and looked at him but said nothing. The rest of the team just hung back and watched Inuyasha, knowing his temper and how he felt about Sesshomaru.

“Have a problem Inuyasha?”

“Bastard what the fuck are you doing?”

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes and pulled Kagome a bit closer resisting the urge to smirk when she leaned fully against him and Inuyasha’s eyes narrowed. He turned Kagome’s face and kissed her again smirking into the kiss when she pressed closer and moaned softly into his mouth. When he pulled away he released her and moved off the wall and with a firm smack on the ass that made Kagome moan slightly told her to take his keys and bag and wait in the car. She nodded and walked pass them all to go do as he’d said. Sesshomaru once again ignoring Inuyasha walked into the locker room while Inuyasha turned around and went after Kagome. He caught her as she was unlocking Sesshomaru’s car and spun her around and growled.

“What the fuck was that Kagome?”

“Me being with someone I like. Why do you suddenly give a damn?”

“Because your mine damn it and if you never gave it to me you damn sure ain’t gonna give it to my brother.”

Kagome’s aura flared and her eyes started to glow with her power as it came spiraling out of her body and almost purified Inuyasha. He jumped back just in time.

“YOU SELFISH SON OF A BITCH. YOU DON’T OWN ME NOBODY OWNS ME, AND WHAT I DO WITH MY BODY IS FOR ME TO KNOW AND YOU TO FORGET ABOUT. NEVER WILL I FUCK YOU AND IF I DO HAVE SEX WITH YOUR BROTHER THAT WILL BE BETWEEN ME AND HIM NOT YOU AND IF YOU EVER COME OUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH AT ME WITH THAT BULL SHIT AGAIN I SWEAR TO GOD YOU WILL NOT LIVE TO REGRET IT. NOW GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME BEFORE I HURT YOU.”

Sesshomaru came out of the school just before Kagome started yelling and what he heard her yelling brought his focus to Inuyasha. His eyes narrowed and he wanted to choke the stupid boy but he walked instead toward Kagome getting as close as he could without being purified. He hadn’t known she had so much power and yet he could tell she was still holding back.

“Kagome.”

She turned her eyes to him and saw the burns slowly forming on his skin and sucked her power back into her body quickly and went to him. She ignored Inuyasha and healed the burns on Sesshomaru’s arms. When she was done she leaned against him her entire body hurt and she whimpered when he touched her skin since it was hypersensitive at the moment. He put her in the car and glared at Inuyasha before getting behind the wheel and driving toward the Manor.

“Call your mother and tell her you’re with me unless you wish to go home.”

She shook her head and called her mother and talked with her a while answering her mother questions about her power spike at the school.

“I didn’t mean to mom but Inuyasha said something that really got under my skin…maybe it will not be researched to heavily and I can avoid detection. I’ll call you when I’m on my way home, bye mom.”

She sighed and closed her eyes.

“If they come looking for me I’m gonna purify him to the lowest level of hell three times over I swear.”
