Chapter One

"Are you sure you won't stay with us?" Sango looked down at the girl she had known as her sister and best friend for the last three years. Her friend was going to leave them for the final time, she'd never see her again. The defeat of Naraku had come to pass, finally behind them. Miroku stood at her side along with Shippo and Kirara.

Kagome tried to smile at her friends, not feeling the happiness she pretended. "No, this isn't where I belong. I'll never forget you guys but I have to go."

"It's because of Inuyasha isn't it." Shippo started to pout trying not to cry. "It's always his fault, he left so now you're going to leave us."

"Don't blame Inuyasha, it's not his fault. I belong in my era with my family, I have to go before anything else bad happens. I'm taking the jewel with me, now give me a hug so I can get going." She hugged the small kit to her chest. "Maybe I'll see you one day in my time. Take care of yourself for me."

"I will, I'll miss you Kagome." He started crying as she let go, Sango picked him up.

"If it's possible try to come see us." Miroku stepped forward to give her a quick hug. "You were a joy to have known. Remember we love you Kagome."

"Thanks, I love you guys too. Don't forget me," She smiled past her tears at the small group. It was time for her to go home. Maybe if Inuyasha had been her she might have considered staying but he was gone. There was nothing left here for her now. Her life would have to be back in her era with her true family. There was no way of getting around it, she didn't belong here.

They watched as she turned around and jumped into the well. A bright light was seen, the magic consuming her, taking her from them. Miroku hugged his wife to his chest willing some of his strength to support her. After Inuyasha kept his promise to Kikyou, Kagome had stayed long enough to see them wed. Now that it was done, she had been ready to return home. "Let's go home."

Kagome took a deep breath when she felt her feet hit the ground. Tears were streaming down her face, she'd never see any of them again. That part of her life was over, never to be returned to. A bird screeched over head causing her head to snap up. The sky?! She was sure she'd went through, the familiar light had surround her like usual. Where had it put her? The wellhouse roof was no longer over her head.

Deciding to get up and take a look, dread filled her. She lifted herself up the many vines, it was overran with foilage. Nothing but woods could be seen from this position. Being on the lip didn't show anything different. The well had put her somewhere else for a reason. She placed her bag down beside the edge, instead of lugging it around.

Where the hell was she? When was she to be more precise? 'Maybe taking a good look around would be a good idea.' She got up taking only her bow with her, incase she ran into trouble. The jewel was hanging on a chain around her neck.

Voices were heard in the distance, raised in anger from the sound of it. She hid her aura, carefully making her way towards the noise. Not knowing where the well had put her, being careful was her top priority. It wouldn't do well for her to get caught in an ambush or run into something she couldn't handle. Her senses didn't pick up any youkai near, some of her tension left.

The clearing was empty except for two people, a middle aged man and a young woman. Both human and seemed to be engrossed in each other. Kagome hid behind a tree, making sure neither could see her. The man reached out to touch the woman's face in a gentle caress then spoke.

"Please understand, I care for you. I just can't bring you back with me yet. The strain would be too much for her so soon after the death of her mother. Maybe in time you will be able to come with me but I can't make you any promises."

"But I need to go back with you please. Don't leave me again. Aren't I important? Don't I mean anything to you?" She buried her head against his chest as he held her.

Kagome debated turning around, it looked like she chanced upon a lover's quarrel. Maybe they could answer a few questions for her after they settled their arguement. So she waited and watched hoping for a good opportunity to make her presence known.

The man started to stroke her hair, "You are important, you've made me happy these last few months. Please understand even if I took you back, the others wouldn't accept you. I don't want to put you through all that. Give them time, it might takes years but it will come to pass. With the war going on they wouldn't like someone new in their mist."

Kagome saw the woman stiffen at the response and wondered what the man had meant. What war? The only one that she could think of was the one a little over one hundred years ago. Had she appeared out the well a century too soon? That would really suck if it were the case.

The woman spoke again, "Very well, if you won't ever take me back with you." Kagome's eyes widened when she saw the knife suddenly in the woman's hand. The man was unaware of the danger he was in, the woman plunged it in his back before Kagome could call out. "I have no further use of you."

The man fell to his knees, disbelief in his eyes at the betrayal. "Why?" He fell to the ground at the woman's feet. Kagome had to place her hand over her mouth, it was like watching a movie. Or a bad episode of Jerry, 'When Relationships Go Bad.'

"Revenge, my love. Die knowing that all those that follow you will die but first I will start with that brat of yours. She will be the first to fall under my blade." She leaned down and yanked the dagger out of his back. "Rest in hell, sweetheart."

Several male voices were heard shouting causing both women to look in the other direction. Kagome saw the woman take off without checking to make sure the man was dead. She waited till the coast was clear and ran over to see if she could help him.

He moaned when her hand went out to touch him, if she was to heal him it would have to be done fast. She began the process as several men came running into the clearing. She screamed when someone grabbed her hair yanking her to her feet. The man threw her aside, "Hey watch it."

An older gentleman ran to the fallen man, "Makamachi, what has happened?" He picked the man up in his arms. Anguish showed on his face, "Tell us who did this to you."

"She betrayed me, I should have known. Please, don't let her get my daughter. Protect her, don't let my child die for my mistake. Kill her, don't let her get to Mis.." The man's chest stopped moving, his arms fell limp at his sides.

Kagome slowly stood up as the man took his last breath. Her first thoughts were on how sad it was that the man had been betrayed by his lover. No one deserved to die that way. A shadow fell over her causing her to look up. A tall man was standing in her view now, glaring at her menacingly. She gulped when all the men began to turn to her, accusation in their eyes. 'Wait, they think I did it.' Taking a step back, debating on whether to run or try to explain.

"Kill her," The elderly man spoke finally, not bothering to look up. He'd just given them the order to see to her death.

"Wait, I didn't do it, that other woman did. Hey are you listening to me?" She sighed, nope they weren't listening. Dammit, she really had shitty timing and some serious bad luck. 'The well, I gotta get back to the well.' The tall man took another step towards her, his long black ponytail blowing behind him. He was cute, but had just taken out two swords.

Choice made she turned and began to run, she heard the four men give chase. She crashed through the woods, the branches yanked at her clothing. A knife hit the tree beside her, too close for comfort. They were really trying to kill her, figures. The well came into view, relief filled her. A few more steps and she'd be out of here.

Her hands grabbed the yellow bag, she stood up. A loud yell caused her to turn around suddenly. Her eyes widened when a sharp pain consumed her chest. The impact sent her falling backwards, her knees hit the wood. She saw nothing but sky, the world began to spin around her. Her world turned black when the force of the ground slammed into her.

Shinomori Aoshi walked over to the wooden well and peered down. He'd seen the girl grab ahold of something. Relief filled him as his kodachi found it's target and embedded itself deep into the girl's chest. Something yellow was laying next to her at the bottom. He gazed for several minutes to make sure she was dead. There was no way he was going down there to drag her corpse back out. Several moments passed without her moving, she was dead.

The other men joined him, he turned and made his way back to where Okina was waiting. "Let's go, she has been disposed of." He sighed at the loss of one of his weapons, let it rot with her. They had went in search of their leader, finding him missing. A letter had been found with a time and place written on it. Not sure of the meaning behind the message they had decided to follow. It must have been a setup of some sort. Their leader had just been killed, the culprit dead.

Okina looked up when he arrived, lifting the corpse with him. "Is it done?"

"Yes, I killed her myself. Her corpse rots at the bottom of a well." Aoshi looked at the dead man, what could have made the strongest of them lower his guard enough to be stabbed in the back? He would never allow himself to trust someone enough to give them his back.

"Let's go, we will have to see to the child. With both her parents dead she will have no one." Okina carried the body of their leader back, a new leader would be needed. Something had to be arranged, Misao would need to be taken care of.
