CHAPTER 1, PART 1 - FIRST DAY ON THE JOB
24 year-old Higurashi, Kagome stepped out of her car to look at the massive building she was approaching. A signage simply said 'Nishijima Byouin'. This was the hospital where she was born; her mother never failing to remind her of her unusual coming to the world. Even stranger was the fact that her parents were never allowed to give a single yen for the bill. They tried, being the honest people that they are, but miraculously their bill was already taken care off. Her parents went home in a daze, still trying to figure out the mystery.
It was still a mystery that needed solving in her family's opinion. They wanted to give gratitude to the 'Good Samaritan' who helped them, since the Higurashi Family was never rich to begin with. Her mom was still adamant it was the silver-haired 'hunk' who came to her aid at the time.
The 'Kojima' fellow who never showed up again after her mom gave birth to her. It's like he vanished into thin air though they tried to find him. That was still one of her mother's favorite stories to tell, up to date.
Kagome's lips curved into a smile as she recalls her father's jealous bouts whenever her mom started on 'that' story. That is, until he died in a car accident.
Her smile turned melancholy as she was reminded of that fact. She still missed her father, even after all these years. He was taken too young and too unfairly, in her opinion. Her brother, Souta, wasn't even born yet when he died. He had no memories of their father. She supposed she should be thankful that at least she has some, but the pain of losing her dad still pissed Kagome off.
Whenever she remembered, she would always wish that...
Kagome shook her head vehemently to clear her wandering thoughts.
'I'm not here to wander through memory lane, for God's sake,'
She reminded herself dryly, picking up her pace so she wouldn't be late for her appointment. No, it wasn't a doctor's appointment. She was here for the job.
It's Kagome's first day at work. And not just any work, mind you. She was going to be their newest emergency physician. No one looking at her would guess that she's a fully-fledged doctor. Everyone says she's too young for the job. But Kagome was determined to prove them wrong.
She always wanted to be a doctor. Ever since her father died in that accident, her motive was twice as strong. She wanted to be someone who could challenge the dying fate of men, to be able to save lives. Her family being poor never stopped her from reaching for her dreams.
She was always the studious one; whether from force of habit or it just came naturally, she didn't know. But she played it to her advantage. With her intelligence came a steady supply of scholarship grants. Med school was no different. She even got invited to have her residency in the US. That was just too good an opportunity to pass up, so she left her family to pursue her career.
She came back though. She knew she wanted to practice from her roots, for her people. So she went home. Imagine her surprise at finding out a job that was already waiting for her. The illustrious Nishijima Byouin wanted her to be their resident emergency physician. And so here she was.
She supposed it was fate, her working on the place where her life literally began. Kagome was used to things usually dropping the way she wanted them to. She had that unusual gift... one of many others that she had.
When she was 7 years old, her grandfather brought her a gift. It was supposed to help her cope for her father's loss. Little did she know it would mean more than that. The moment her grandfather laid that bow and quiver of arrows into her hands, it felt like she was welcoming it home. The first time she tried to shoot it felt like she's been doing it for the rest of her life. Her accuracy was unfailing, her timing always perfect. Her affinity to the bow continued up 'til now.
When she was 15 years of age, she discovered she wasn't a normal human being. She started seeing ghosts... and youkai. Yup, you heard it right. Demons. Your typical bedtime story was real. They existed. When she asked her mom about it, Mrs. Higurashi gave her an odd look. She lived in a shrine, for Pete's sake, her mom told her. Of course she had miko blood running through her veins. As if that explained everything! And yet, maybe it did.
~*~ Okay, gotta go guys. My 3ds is giving up on me. I'll be posting the 2nd part tomorrow. Thanx! ^_^ ~*~
