Prologue
Prologue
A young woman slowly walked up a long set of stairs. Her head was downcast so that her midnight blue hair fell in front of her face. She raised her head to the sky and closed her eyes, one foot resting on the next step. She slowly opened her deep blue eyes and tears gathered at her lashes. She frowned and wiped angrily at the tears. Shaking her head slightly, she started up the steps again. At the top of the stairs stood a large shrine where the Goshinboku, The God Tree, stood tall and proud. Its branches reached high into the afternoon sky showing its age. Further off to the right of the grounds stood a small structure, a well house. Its wood was old but in good condition. Its doors closed to hide its secrets from the outside world. The woman reached the top of the stairs and glanced toward the well. As always when she looked at it, the magic pulled at her, beckoning her to the other side. The woman shook her head and continued past to the main house. The woman is a miko, a priestess of light for the world. Her abilities, while great, are not fully trained and not always in her control. What she lacks in training though, she makes up for in loyalty. If you can be counted as a friend to the young woman, she will go to the ends of the earth to protect and provide for you. Her name is Higurashi Kagome, the Shikon Miko. On the other side of the well stood a man in a field of wild flowers watching a young girl as she played. A breeze made the flowers sway gently and lifted his hair momentarily from his back. He stood tall with cold eyes and an unwavering expression. He glanced at the clouds, his amber eyes staying for a moment before returning to the child. Suddenly he turned from the field and began walking toward the tree line heading east. A short distance away he came through the trees to face a clearing where a well stood, barren, in the center. As he approached the well he could feel the pull of its magic and his eyes grew darker and became colder than ice. He knew this magic. He knew its touch, its smell, the very taste of it. He raised his hand level to his chest and his fingers took on a green glow. He stood poised, and then paused. The green glow subsided and his hand slowly lowered itself to his side. He stayed still for a moment before turning and heading back in the direction of the field. He looked back briefly as he stood at the tree line. His eyes lingered on the well for less than a second before he turned and disappeared into the trees. The man was a demon, a Lord among his kind. His abilities were feared all over the four lands. He was cold and calculated; the perfect killer. His name is Lord Sesshomaru, the killing perfection. This is their story…
