A Wolf's Duty

Kohana

A/N: I am very happy to finally be able to say that A Wolf’s Lover will finally have it’s sequel! A Wolf’s Lover is a story of mine, in case you didn’t know, and you might want to read that one first (though you don’t have to). This story will be full of plot! Yay! But don’t worry, it will also be full of smut, sex, and fornication! Yay! Lol. Alright, here are the pairings

Kagai/Kohana
Sesshoumaru/Kagome
Shippo/Rin/Kohaku (love triangle)

Alright guys, I suppose that’s all for now. I can’t think of anyone else to pair together. I hate Miroku/Sango, so that is out of the question. Later in the story I might announce Sango paired with someone and Miroku paired with someone, just not now.

OOOOOO

Chapter 1

OOOOOO

Kagai peered down into the rive to look at himself for the first time. His hair was short and black, spiked up in a strange fashion, and his eyes were large, innocent, and a deep color of violet. Kagai knew where he came from, who he came from, but this did nothing to help his curiosity of himself. He reached up and touched the third eye that rested on his forehead. It wasn’t real, more like it was painted on, but he couldn’t rub it away.

“Kagai. Get dressed.”

The incarnation turned to Naraku and resisted the urge to glare, placing his hand over where his heart should have been. In his short life, there were two things that he knew for sure. One, he despised Naraku, and two, he could never show it. Slowly, Kagai nodded and reached for the clothing offered to him. “What can I do for you, Naraku?”

Naraku glanced down to the five year old looking boy. “I want to know my future.” The man purred, “Tell me, Kagai, is there anyone who can stop me?”

Kagai’s eyes started to glow. He saw a woman in her late teens. She had chestnut brown hair and shining blue eyes. Behind her, a wolf tail thrashed angrily, and on her head, her wolf ears were flat against her skull. She raised her sword high above her head and, after speaking a few words, she stabbed down into a baby with light blue hair; Naraku’s baby. After shaking his head, the psyonic demon nodded. “There is one. She is a half wolf demon with a sword of great power. She is the one who will defeat you.”

Naraku’s eyes narrowed. “And where is she right now?”

Once again, the incarnations eyes started to glow. He saw a wolf demon holding a baby with chestnut brown hair and wolf ears. Next to him there was a human woman who was smiling in adoration at the little pup. The wolf lifted his head up and nodded at something, handing to the baby to a man wearing a fire rat haori and hakama. Like the baby, Kagai could tell the man was only half demon. After the vision faded, he looked up at Naraku. “She is a baby right now. She is with a wolf demon, a human, and a half dog demon.”

“Yes. Kouga must have had a child. And this child can stop me?” He waited for Kagai to nod before he rubbed his chin. “Well then, she won’t be able to stop me if she doesn’t live long enough. Kagura.”

Said demon appeared from the woods. “Yes, Naraku?” She said, trying not to sneer.

“I want you to kill this baby. Go and find Inuyasha. You will find her too.”

“Yes, Naraku.” The wind witch pulled a feather from her hair, making it grow. Soon, she took to the sky, set off towards the dog hanyou.

OOOOOO

“She’s so cute!” Kagome cooed, cradling the little half ookami. “What did you guys decide to name her?” She asked, turning towards Kouga and Koharu.

Koharu smiled brightly, holding out her hands for her child. “Her name will be Kohana.” She held her child in her arms, smiling down at her with love and adoration. “She is beautiful. I never imagined how it would feel to have a child. I am glad Kouga-kun and I decided to have one.”

Kouga wrapped an arm around his mate. “This is just the first! We’ll have plenty more! Now that I left the pack to Ginta and Hakakku, we need to build or own!” He then smiled at Koharu, “It’ll be fun, right Koharu?”

The woman blushed. “Kouga-kun, are you going to try and kill me?” she hit him playfully on the arm. “At least I wasn’t pregnant for nine months like I thought I would be! After four months I thought I was going to die.”

“How long are wolf demons usually pregnant?” Kagome asked, confused.

“About two or three. But since she is half demon half human she needed a little longer in Koharu’s tummy, right sweety?” Kouga cooed to his child.

“So,” Inuyasha started, looking at his claws, “You gonna knock off the half-breed comments now?”

“I guess I have to,” The wolf said with a shrug, “I still think you’re weak as hell though.”

“Mind saying that again?” Inuyasha growled, reaching for his sword.

“Don’t you dare pull out your weapon around my child!” The wolf jumped up and bared his fangs.

“Isn’t this a lovely site?” Both demons turned to look behind them, growling at what they saw; Kagura. “It’s too bad that child won’t make it passed today.” The wind witch readied her fan, even though she had no intention of killing the child. She needed to play them, however. Kagura planned on informing them of Naraku’s fear of the child; about how one day the will half wolf would kill them. She had to do it right, however, or Naraku would kill her.

“What the hell does that mean?” Kouga growled, moving to stand in front of his mate, “Koharu, take Kohana and get out of here.”

“I don’t think so!” Kagura yelled, making her wind slice the ground around the pair. “Naraku wants that child killed so that’s what I intend to do.”

Kouga’s eyes turned red and his face turned into a snarl. “No one is going to hurt either of them. Not while I’m alive.” His fangs grew, his head changed. His body morphed and twisted, growing black fur and his arms and legs mutated into paws. No longer was he Kouga; instead, he was a wolf. His size could match Sesshoumaru in his true form. The mighty wolf let out a great howl before snarling at the wind witch, who became immobilize with fear.

“Wow, the wolf is actually impressive.” Inuyasha said, putting his sword away. “I didn’t know his true form would be so strong.”

Kagome nodded. “It’s so big. He might be bigger than Sesshoumaru even.”

“Kagome, you go get Koharu and the baby out of here. Kouga and me can take Kagura down.”

The miko nodded, running under Kouga’s body to where Koharu was frozen, clutching the child tightly to her chest. “Let’s go! The guys can handle her.” Kagome said, grabbing one of Koharu’s hands. The two women ran into the forest as fast as they could, trying to ignore the sounds of the battle behind them.

“Kagome, stop. I can’t run anymore.” Koharu pulled on her hand to make the girl let go. She was heaving and panting, clutching her child – who was silent throughout the ordeal. “We are far enough away.”

“You’re right, sorry.” Kagome sat next to her friend then wondered out loud, “I wonder why Naraku wants to kill Kohana? She’s just a baby.”

“There is a legend.” Out of the woods came a figure with silver flowing hair and piercing golden eyes.

“Sesshoumaru,” The miko jumped up to stand in front of the woman and child, “What do you want, Sesshoumaru-sama?”

The dog sat before them, his eyes in a harsh glare. “I am not here to hurt you. There is a legend about your child. I assumed the hanyou in the legend was Inuyasha; but I was mistaken.” He reached into his haori and retrieved a parchment. “A vicious beast, a gentle maid. Together they will, a baby lay. Taught to love, trained to fight, she is the keeper of what is right. Half by blood, whole is heart, she will keep, the world from tearing apart. A hanyou for a hanyou, half for half, it will save, for our behalf. The pictations show a spider and what I believed to be a dog; I was wrong. It is a wolf. This is why Naraku is scared of your child.”

“Why have you come to tell us this?” Koharu asked, tears in her eyes as she clutched her baby close to her chest.

“Your child needs to be trained how to fight.” Sesshoumaru said nonchalantly.

In the distance there was a roar of a wolf and the two women froze, staring in the direction they had left their lovers. Soon, two figures came into view. Both the dog and the wolf were beaten up pretty badly, but they were alive.

“Koharu are you alright?” Kouga asked, kneeling next to her side. “Did…did I scare you?”

The young woman looked at her mate, shaking her head. “I was scared for you, Kouga.”

The demon flashed her a toothy smile and gave her a wink. “I’m a taiyoukia. Nothing is going to hurt me. Ever.”

OOOOOO

“Focus.”

“I am focusing!”

Golden eyes narrowed. “You are like your father in too many ways.” Sesshoumaru said, the glowing whip in his hand disappearing. “He was loud mouthed and arrogant. That is what got him killed. Remember this, Kohana.”

The young wolf’s tail thrashed violently behind her and she raised the sword made of her father’s fang. “You have no right to talk about my father!” She growled as she lunged forward, slashing the giant fang sword.

The dog demon easily side stepped the foolish move. “You need to focus. Your emotions rule you. You will never be able to defeat Naraku like this.”

Blue eyes shone with fury and the woman-child suddenly sheathed her sword. “This is stupid! I don’t want to kill Naraku. Why does it have to be me, Sesshoumaru-sama? Between running the northern lands and Kagome teaching me how to use these stupid miko powers, then there’s you. This is too much for a girl to handle!”

“Kohana.” A woman in her late thirties was standing at the entrance to the do-jo. “Shippo is looking for you. Something about fire lessons?”

“Thanks mom,” The hanyou grumbled, walking away.

“I apologize for my words against Kouga.” Sesshoumaru said, looking at Koharu. Thirteen years ago Kouga and Inuyasha had died at the hands of Kagura of the wind protecting the ookami hanyou. Now, Kohana was 16 years old. She was the one who would defeat Naraku and his incarnations.

They found out at the age of 6 that Kohana had warring powers inside her, threatening her life. They had decided that Kagome would teach her how to channel her spiritual powers while Sesshoumaru would teach her how to channel her youki and how to use the sword that Kouga had Totosai make before he died.

“It’s alright, Sesshoumaru-sama.” The woman smiled gently. “Kouga was a…good man. I loved him dearly; but he did not die in vain. He was brash and arrogant, but he died protecting what he loved.”

OOOOOO

“Shippo! Where are you?” Kohana yelled, standing by the river behind Sesshoumaru’s castle. This was their usual meeting spot when Shippo wanted to practice his fire techniques. Though the fox demon only seemed 12 or 13, Kohana knew he was older then her. His demon blood made him age slower than she did. “Shippo-oh, hi there.”

A man was sitting on the opposite side of the river, his eyes closed. Atop his head, there was a mark much like Sesshoumaru had; only the man had an eye tattoo. Said man opened violet eyes to stare at her. Nothing was said for moments, and Kohana could feel a chill run down her spine. “I am Kagai.” Came his quite voice as he stood.

“I’m Kohana.” The hanyou smiled smally at the demon, her tail twitching nervously. “Are you a friend of Sesshoumaru-sama?”

“You cannot tell anyone I am here, do you understand?” Kagai stepped forward and, to Kohana’s amazement, he walked across the river atop the water. “I have come to inform you of an important matter.”

Gulping, she nodded. “Is this about the northern lands?” She asked, taking a step back.

“Do not be afraid of me. I will never hurt you.” The demon took one of her hands and kissed her knuckles, “This is not about your lands…It is about your father and the dog hanyou.”

Her ears flattened against her head and her tail started to trash violently. She yanked her hand away from his before grabbing her sword. “What about my father and Inuyasha?”

“They are still alive.”

Then, the next thing she knew, Shippo was nudging her. Slowly, she opened her eyes and looked around her startled. “Shippo? Where is he?”

The fox gave her a confused look. “Who? I got here and you were asleep? Did you have a bad dream?”

Nodding her head, the ookami looked around nervously, I suppose so…It felt…so real.” She put her ears against her head. ‘Could they really be alive?’

OOOOOO

A/N: This is just the start. I won’t tell you if they are still alive of not, but don’t hate me if they aren’t! I love all of you, but flames are always welcome. Sorry for the rushed start, the next chapter will be longer and better.
