Beyond the Well
Pixie: Oh so many ideas. So little time. So few endings…. [I always start stories, then forget how I wanted them to end o.o]
This is the first story that I have written just to be posted on aff.net.
Summary: What happens when Kagome meets up with someone from the past while visiting her home in the future? Sess/Kag.
All my stories are pretty much adorable, yet some how manage to become rather perverted… so yeah… enjoy loves.
Beyond The Well.
Chapter one. Topsy-Turvy
It was just like every other day in the feudal era. They traveled. They searched. And today, they fought.
Kagome’s little pack of misfits came upon Lord Sesshomaru and he, of course, was less than thrilled to see them. The fight ensued and Inuyasha lost after Sesshomaru stabbed a hole through his stomach with Tokijin. The only thing that was particularly different about this battle was that when it was over, the lord stayed in the clearing and watched as Kagome cleaned and bandaged Inuyasha’s wound.
“We’ve got a problem Kagome” Inuyasha coughed.
“Yes, Inuyasha, a hole through your gut would be classified as a problem. But you’ll heal it by tomorrow… so it’ll all be good.” She said as she poured disinfectant over it.
“No, Kagome… I’m human tonight…”
“You won’t heal as fast… but it won’t be as bad by tonight… you’ll just be…”
“…In a lot of pain” He finished for her.
Kagome was angry now, as she glanced over at the Taiyoukia who seemed to be staring off into the distance. She finished bandaging the wound and walked over to him.
“What the hell did you think you were doing?! You know he’s human tonight Sesshomaru! You knew he wouldn’t be able to fully heal! What’s your problem?”
Sesshomaru lowered his face to look at her, and her gaze softened. Her hanyou friend had left a deep gash across his brother’s cheek. “He needed to be taught a lesson miko. He always runs around swinging his sword… but if it hadn’t been me he was fighting, the opponent would not have stopped at one simple hole. He would have died once he turned human. I can’t have someone who is tied to the Western Lands, such as he, running around so carelessly.”
She stood silently for a few moments before sighing.
“Why are you still here Sesshomaru?”
She watched as he reached his hand up to wipe blood from the still flowing wound on his face. “You have knowledge of herbs. I believe you’re the reason the hanyou is not covered in scars… I do not wish this to scar. It is a jagged cut, not a clean one as it should have been- if he’d been wielding his sword correctly. It will heal. But it will scar….”
Kagome shook her head. He was there to save his vanity. He didn’t want to be less than perfect… of course. She reached into her bag and pulled out some ointment. “This has a mild odor, but it might still be a bit strong to your senses.” She handed him the tube and he stared at the strange container. She sighed, took it back and removed the cap. “Just squeeze some onto your fingers and put in on the cut”
He did as she said and handed the ointment back to her. And, without saying as much as ‘thank you’, he got up and walked away.
Kagome walked back over to Inuyasha. “You’ll stay tonight at my house… we can’t risk you being injured and human”
So, they ventured to Kaede’s village and left their friends at her hut while they made the short journey to the well.
Once in her time, it took them a while to get him out of the well and into the house, where she settled him on the couch.
“I’ll run to the store and see if I can find anything for the pain… I’ll be right back. If you need anything, just ask Souta or Mom, you know they’d be glad to help out.”
Inuyasha nodded his thanks and watched her walk away. She was so different now as opposed to when they met. She’d recently turned 19 and the four years in the feudal era had obviously hardened her a bit around the edges. He knew that she no longer loved him, and took comfort in that fact because he truly hated hurting her…
-=-=-=-
Kagome was walking down an aisle in the drug store, looking at her basket, trying to make sure she had everything she needed- when she bumped into him. She looked up about to mumble an apology, but when her eye’s met his- her mind blanked out.
Gold eyes stared into blue, disbelief obvious within their depths.
“Kami. You look just the same as ever…” he smirked, just as shocked to see her.
“Sess….Sesshomaru?! How?!” She looked at him. He could have passed for human. Shorter hair, no markings, jeans, t-shirt… but she knew better. It was like she was seeing him through that…
“Concealment spell. Sorry if it threw you off.”
“You can’t be Sesshomaru. You just about killed Inuyasha today… he’s at my house healing… there’s no way. Nope. Nu-huh. I must be in some weird dream… You’re too polite. Not Sesshomaru. Nope. Impossible.”
“I knew you came from the future, but I never expected to run into you… I…” He stepped closer to her and her heart started pounding. She was afraid of this new Sesshomaru who wasn’t attacking her. She was afraid because he was nice… “Kagome… can we go somewhere and talk?” He offered her his arm, and she noticed that he had both.
“Your arm, it finally healed?”
“No… well… it would have by now, but no. I’ve had it back for a while. Someone I cared a lot about figured out how to restore it.”
“So, you finally took a mate?! That’s great Sesshomaru. I’ll bet she’s beautiful. I mean you were like, all powerful and such, you deserved to settle down” Ever met one of those people who couldn’t stop talking once they became nervous? Kagome was one of those people.
“She wasn’t my mate Kagome… she chose another. She gave me back my arm to pay back a debt that I didn’t need repaid. Then, she chose another demon, which she deemed more loving.” He smiled, though it didn’t reach his eyes. His eyes looked empty. “She was beautiful though…”
Kagome looked up at the new, strange Sesshomaru. He looked terribly lost. ‘I guess, that Killing Perfection, or not… hundreds of years alone still took their toll…’ she thought, sadly. “This is odd, Sesshomaru… We just fought you today. Now here you are at the drug store… just like anyone else….”
They began walking towards the counter and he waited as Kagome paid for her stuff.
“Where should we go to talk? I guess we could go to the shrine…”
“But didn’t you say that Inuyasha is there? I don’t want him to get the wrong idea… and think I got through the well or something…”
She almost missed the old Sesshomaru. Weird. “He’s human by now, we can sit out in the well house and he’ll never know we’re there”
They walked in silence until they got to the well house and closed the door. Sesshomaru sat down against the ancient well, and Kagome sat beside him.
“I live alone now, well… I still have Jaken to annoy me… but we’re alone on my estate, save for a few maids and staff.”
It was cold and that, along with the tone in his voice made her shiver. “what’s happened to you Sesshomaru?” She whispered, turning towards him. She looked at his cheek, where earlier today she’d given the past Sesshomaru ointment. She traced her fingers against it, and he leaned into her hand. “You didn’t scar.”
“Nope, thanks to you…”
They stayed like that for a second, staring at each other. Kagome trying to figure out what could have possibly broken the demon lord so thoroughly. “Drop the concealment spell. Please.”
He did.
His hair returned to its old length, his markings reappeared and clothes shifted back to what she remembered. It was even stranger, to see him exactly as he should be, but so completely jaded. “oh Sesshomaru…” She wrapped her arms around him and buried her face into his chest. His arms circled her waist, holding her as she cried for him.
His long dormant instincts woke and he began to nuzzle her neck, gently growling to calm her down. As she settled she realized that she’d ended up cradled against him in his lap. She turned to face him, blushing. “I’m sorry Sesshomaru…”
One hand came up to cup her cheek. “No, Kagome, don’t be sorry… that you could show that compassion for me… is touching.”
Not caring that she was basically straddling him, she leaned against him, crying again. ‘what on earth has happened to the stoic prince of the west?’
“Do me a favor Kagome.”
She looked up at him again. “Sure…”
“Do not mention this to me when you go back to the past… I fear that I wouldn’t believe you and you would pay for it.”
She moved herself out of his lap. “Yeah. I almost forgot for two seconds that you aren’t as nice as you…. Hell, that made no sense. But you get it….”
He chuckled, “yes, I understand. I just ask that when you’re in this time, we ‘hang out’… its such a relief to see that there is another familiar face, aside from Jaken..”
“So… what about Inuyasha…. Does that mean he’s not running around somewhere in this time?”
“Shh. Kagome, another answer for another time.” He pulled out a bracelet and gave it to her “wear this only when you’re in this era, if you need me, I’ll know and seek you out… but do not let the other me see it.”
She put the bracelet on and looked at the little crescent moon charm. “I’ve got to go inside. If Inuyasha is still awake, he’s probably wondering what’s taking me so long…”
Sesshomaru nodded solemnly “Of course.”
They stood up and left the well house “Sesshomaru, I don’t know what happened…. But I’m sorry.”
“Take care of yourself Kagome”
And he left…
Kagome walked into her house, truly shocked by what had passed.
“What took you so long at the store?” Inuyasha asked, the pain making him sound less angry than he’d hoped.
“I’m sorry Inuyasha, it was more crowded than I expected, and then I ran into an old friend, I got home as soon as I could. How are you feeling?”
“How the fuck do you think I’m feeling wench?” He winced.
She sighed and pulled out the pain killers and ointments she’d bought.
After the drugged hanyou was asleep, Kagome dragged herself up the stairs to her room to get some well deserved sleep herself.
When the sun rose, it woke Kagome up, and she wished it would just go die. Then, after she rolled over, intending to ignore the time and sleep some more, she remembered Sesshomaru…
It was ridiculous to imagine that the strong and confidant, if not a bit full of himself demon lord, would become a self conscious, shy mess of a creature… maybe… she just didn’t know the old Sesshomaru that well? Yes. That had to be it. Kagome refused to think that he could be broken if he was as strong as she’d always thought him to be.

Kagome and Inuyasha returned to the feudal era as soon as they were sure Inuyasha was well.
As they walked together towards Kaede’s village, she decided that she wanted to learn more about Sesshomaru. ‘That’s insane… he’ll probably try to kill me for talking to him… but damnit. I wanna know what’s going on…’ she looked at her wrist where the bracelet had been. She felt strangely naked without it. ‘which is ridiculous… I mean, he just gave it to me….’.
“Oi. Wench. What are you so quiet for? Usually, you talk so much my ears bleed.”
She muttered “sit” without much feeling and continued to walk, lost in her thoughts.
Once her group was reunited in Kaede’s hut they discussed course of action and where to search for shards, which direction to go in etc, etc.
“I think we should just let Kags meditate and pick a direction” Miroku chimed in.
Kagome wasn’t really paying attention to the conversation until she had a ‘eureka’ moment at Miroku’s idea and piped up. “Yes, that could work. Maybe I could sense something, it might be too far to sense an exact shard, but maybe I’ll at least be able to get us started”
With the agreement of the group Kagome began to meditate… sorta. She’d already picked a direction to go in, she just had to make it seem legit.
She closed her eyes and thought for a moment. ‘which way’s West?... hmmm. Never eat shredded…wheat!’ perfect!’
She straightened up a bit and opened her blue eyes. “Wheat. I mean.,. West… We just need to go that way”
