Red and the Wolf.

Inuyasha and his friends had left Kaedes village three days ago, heading north in another long search for shards of the jewel. They were taking another break and Inuyasha was getting impatient. Why were humans so slow? Pacing the small area where the group was taking their rest, Inuyasha was getting annoyed, Kagome was digging around in her bottomless yellow backpack, not getting the hint that he wanted to be on their way already. 'Keh, most likely looking for some more damn treats for that damned runt.' Inuyasha glared at Shippo before continuing his pacing.

“Oh no! I forgot to give this to Kaede before we left.” Kagome held up a small pink box tied in string. “It wont be any good by the time we get back.” Looking over her shoulder at Inuyasha, who was now giving her the look he gave before he went into a fit of rage. But before he could start his tantrum, Kagome, putting the sweatiest smile on her face, asked “Inuyasha can you take this to Kaede?”

“You want me to trek all the way back to the goddamn village, just because you forgot to give some pink box to the old hag,” growled Inuyasha. “No. The. Fuck Way.”

Kagome sighed, changing the tone of her voice like a mother talking to a child acting petulance. “Its not the box that is the gift Inuyasha its what is inside, which is Chocolate Torte. Its for the village celebration tomorrow.”

Inuyasha ears went flat at the word chocolate. He remembered the last time he had 'chalk-a-let'. He was sick in Kaede's hut for three days, pucking up anything he ate. Inuyasha hadn't felt that bad since he was bitten by a poisonous spider demon. “Chalk-a-let! Just throw that damn shit in the fire.” The Hanyou made a move to grab the damned desert, but Kagome pulled it back out of his reach.

“Inuyasha,” she answers him in that same scolding voice. “You could be nice and do this ONE favor for ME”

“For you? I thought you said it was for the VILLAGE.” replied Inuyasha still looking at the pink box with disgust.

“I love the idea of a lovers feast” Sango told no one in particular

“Dumb idea if you ask me”

“Well no one did ask you, Inuyasha,” Kagome spat back. “I agree Sango, and so close to spring, the season of love. Umbrellas, holding hands, watching movies, sharing desserts......”

“You know we didn't understand half of what you damned said.”

Kagome was about to open her mouth to SIT Inuyasha, but Sango beat her to the punch. “Inu, I know that you are impatient to get moving again, but we are slowing you down, If you take Kagome's present to the village, it will give you something to do, and the whole trip should take you about a day.”

Iunyasha thought about it, liking the idea of not waiting around and at least doing something. Even if it was a errand boy. “OK.. fine, I'll do it. But don't think I am doing for some sappy love feast.” Inuyasha grabbed the pink box, and took off into the trees.

Hakkaku even talked to Kouga about establishing a permanent mating with Ginta. 'Never saw that one coming.' Kouga was happy for his tribe new growth and the new relationships that came out of it, but in the meantime he was ... bored.

Even though Kouga took his role as Alpha seriously, this year he did not participate in the mating, Keeping his promise to Kagome. His pack knew he had claimed Kagome as his soon-to-be-mate, even if it was because she could sense the jewel shards, and it was important that as Alpha he kept his word. Kouga kept faith that one day Kagome will turn around and chose him over Dog Breath.

“Wait, thats it! I'll go visit Kagome and maybe get to see Mutt Face get 'sat' a few times.” Kouga said to himself. Hey he was Alpha, no one would think twice if he talked to himself. Grinning Kouga stood up to stretch. 'If I'm lucky they'll be at the village and I can make a quick trip, there and back in a day.' Kouga ran over the plains in the direction of the forest and Kagome's village. It didn't take long for Kouga to travel deep into the forest when he smelt the scent of his favorite Inu to harass. Shifting his route to the right, and Kouga knew that where Inuyasha was, Kagome should be near.

It didn't take Inuyasha long to be within a short distance of the village. By his estimate he should be in the village in a hour at his top speed. Leaping over a downed log, Inuyasha pulled to a hasty stop. “Great, just fucking great,” Inuyasha grumbled to himself. Turning to his left, he watched a group of trees. What dose that mangy wolf want now? 'I don't have time to play if I want to get rid of the Chalk-a-let cake.' “Come out, I can smell your unwashed ass for miles ya ugly wolf.” Inuyasha's ears turned back as he watched one of the biggest pain in his ass strut out of the trees. 'Fuck that asshole is swaggering!'

“Hey Mutt, wheres Kagome?” asked Kouga sniffing the air for her scent.

“She ain't here. Now get out of my way so I can so I can get rid of this damn thing.” Inu held out the pink box with a look of disdain.

The wolf looked at the pink box, never seeing anything like it before. The mysterious sweet smells penetrating from the strange weak box in the hanyou hand, peeked his interest. “What is that? Let me see.” Kouga tried to grab the box from Inuyasha's outstretched hand.

Inuyasha pulled the box back before Kouga could lay a caw on it. As much as he would like to see the wolf clutching his stomach, howling in pain from the evil 'Chalk-a-let', he had promised Kagome that he would deliver said evil food to the village. Oh how he wished he could just lie about delivering the treat but Kagome would check up on him the next time they are in the village. “No you dumb wolf, this is 'Chalk-a-let', some nasty treat that humans like, but trust me it will make you sick.”

“Let me try it! I am not a weak half breed”

“No, and as much as I would love to watch you puke from this human poison, I promised Kagome that I would get it to the village for some love festival.”

“You mean thats from Kagome? I must try the treat from my mate-to-be, give it here you mutt.”

Inuyasha jumped back before Kouga could make a grab for the box again. “Listen Flee Bag. I need to drop this off and I am wasting time, now get out of my way or I'll kick your tick infected ass!”

The Wolf looked at the Hanyou about to make a snappy comeback, but then smiled as a thought came to him. “No need to get feisty little pup, I'll let you go on your way and finish your chore like a good pet.” Kouga stepped out of Inuyasha's way to let him pass.

Inu looked at the other canine. He knew that the wolf was up to something but he didn't have time to find out what it was. 'Knowing the bastard, it is probably something so stupid that I don't want anything to do with it.' Growling out a “Whatever” Inuyasha leaped pass the smirking wolf and ran toward the village.

Pulling the power of the shards into his legs, Kouga ran at full speed all so toward the village, just slightly off course from the half dog demon. 'I'll just get to the village first and find out where Dog Breath puts that pink box, then get it before anyone fines out ... simple!'

The whirlwind around Kouga died down just inside the tree line of the forest. Kouga could see the village easy from his hiding spot, and was using the opportunity to inspect the village layout. Huts of various sizes were scattered around pathways. He noticed that a main road lead through the center of the village and ended at a small temple that was built higher then the hunts of this small committee. The temple was on the outskirts of the village and next to the temple on the left was a medium sized human hut.

Kouga took in all the activity of the villagers. There seamed to be a mass furry of cooking, cleaning and decorating. 'Mutt Face said something about a festival.' Kouga took in the smells of all the food that was being cooked. All the meat made his mouth water, but the most interesting smell came from the hut next to the temple. It smelled both sweet and earthy. The wolf didn't know why but he needed to check on that smell. Circling around the village keeping out of sight, the wolf slowly stocked his new prey....the hut

Kaede was in her home preparing the traditional tea for the feast. She had learned how to make it from her older sister before she died, the recipe had been handed down from priestess to priestess for generations. The village priestess would make a pot of the ceremonial tea telling the legend of the Ice Demons. She remembered watching her sister prepare the large pot of tea for the village telling her the story, making her commit it to memory.

- Many generations ago, two Ice Demons came to settle into an area one winter. Anyone who met the Demons agreed that they were void of emotion. One phrase that was common in describing the Demons was frigid. Their hearts were so filled with ice that there hearts radiated a glacial aura around them. Even the area around them froze, and it stayed forever winter. The local villagers worried that with no spring, crop's would not grow and animals would leave the area in search of food.

An herb woman got an idea, if the lack of emotion from the Demons froze the land, then a heated emotion like love would melt the winter into spring. She decided to try a special tea that was told to warm the body and soul, using herbs for love and sexual attraction. Cinnamon for passion, Jasmine for seduction, Apple Blossoms for flirtation, Ginger for arousal, Caraway Seeds for lust, and Orange Blossoms for marriage or partnership. The old herb woman visited the Demons offering the tea as a gift from the village. Offering a cup of her potion to each, the aroma made them fidgety. For the first time in a long time each Demon felt a need, they wanted to try the tea, it was essential to have it. Shortly after drinking, both Ice Demons felt a warmth in there chest rating outward. Melting icy heart and frozen aura the demons, after many years, started to feel. Sadness, anger but more importantly love. With the arctic auras gone, winter melted into spring, and the two demons found love in each other. -

'Of course that is just an old story, I have never seen anyone began to love each other after drinking this tea.' Kaeda smiled at the memory of when she was young, letting her mind wander. “Kouga!” the elderly Miko spoke again “Is there a reason why ye are in our village, Kagome and her friends are not here.”

“Oh, ummm yea I know I saw...” 'Oh I got a idea.' “Kagome umm told me that you might be able to help, umm my tribe is about to pup in about a month...”

Like any grandmotherly women the sound of new babies demon or otherwise brought a smile to her face. “Aye, I can help ye and your pack, if you can help me stir this tea, ill be back soon with some herbs that will help the new mothers.”

Kouga quickly took her place as Kaede left the hut. Before the door flap stopped moving from her departure, the wolf prince had a cup of tea in his clawed hand. He didn't know why the sent of the tea enchanted him so, but he desired it like a man who hadn't drank in days.
