Disclaimer:
I do not own InuYasha, nor make money from this story.
Heartbeat
Shiori doesn't get near enough love, she was my favorite loli from the series, even though I like Rin and all that, you just never see Shiori in fanfiction.
Story rated Adult ++ for future lemons. (I already have them planned out how I want them to go.)
Enjoy.
Chapter 1
~~~~~~
The shikon jewel rattled against Inuyasha's neck as he walked along the sandy beach. This place was familiar, he didnt know why, but he had found himself walking this same beach every night for a full cycle now. He stopped to look at the ocean as memories of his old companions came to him. They had defeated Naraku, they had completed the jewel, and what had they asked of him?
'Inuyasha... Will you become human for me?' Those words... That one sentence... She wasn't like he thought, she didn't accept him, none of them did, they wanted him to become human, just like Kikyo... 'Like Kikyo...' He banished the thought. That day, he had taken the jewel and ran, he didn't want to change, he wanted to be himself, and he had thought that Kagome of all people, would have accepted him how he was.
They never chased him, months, seasons passed and he hadn't caught their scents. Sure, walking through crowded villages, he could have sworn on several occasions that he saw the perverted monk, or the slayer in the crowds of people, but he knew his mind was just playing tricks on him.
A few months after he had ran, while trying to sleep one night the prayer bead necklace had broken apart and no lounger bound him to Kagome, he knew that she had sealed the well for good, their connection broken.
He pushed the memories to the back of his mind. 'Where they belong.' He thought, snorting in disgust at himself. A wave splashed up the beach, cold water running over his feet. 'Feels good.' How many times exactly had he walked this beach since he found it? He had lost count, all he knew was that it was familiar to him, in a calming way.
Inuyasha took a deep breath through his nose, the scent of salt water invading his senses, only this time there was another scent mixed it, a floral scent, and he couldn't tell where it was coming from. He looked around, scanning the beach for anyone else. He almost jumped out of his skin when something touched his shoulder, causing him to whirl around and unsheath his sword. All he could do is blink and stare dumbly at what he saw.
A girl, she looked in her teenage years but he couldn't tell from her current position. When he had turned around so abruptly it scared her, obviously, and she ducked, covering her head with her arms. "What the hell's your problem wench? Sneaking up on people like that." Inuyasha spit out, sheathing his blade. He sniffed again, her scent brought back memories. He almost felt nauseas when they flooded back to him, this was that half demon. 'What was her name...?' He couldn't remember for the life of him, ever since he had stolen the jewel his memory was full of holes, he was forgetting important things, faces, names, locations, he never had trouble remembering things before, but now he'd be lucky if he remembered what he had eaten the day before.
The girl stood up and snapped Inuyasha out of his thoughts. He peered at her as she brushed sand off of her knees before speaking. "Inuyasha? Is it really you?" She had a look of hope in her eyes. He nodded at her, eyeing her wearily. "I knew it! You came back to see me didn't you?" She threw herself against his chest and embraced him for a quick hug before stepping back.
"Um... Who are you?" He had a general idea who she was, she was that little bat demon from his memories, but that's all he could remember, why is she in his memories? Were they friends? She sat down in the sand and hugged her knees. 'That kimono is a little short... I can see everything.' He looked away with a red tint to his cheeks. Her kimono was in fact too small for her, it looked like the same one from his memories but he couldn't be sure about that. There were stitches on the sleeves where they had been made longer, and on the shoulders where they had been made a little wider, but it looked as if they didn't bother making it cover more than her thighs.
"You forgot who I was, Inuyasha?" She looked heart broken, he wasn't sure how to explain what he meant to her. "No... Well.. Erm... Okay, you see..." He stuttered, when she looked like she was about to cry. "Of course I didn't forget you!... Well not exactly." She blinked the approaching tears out of her eyes and he sighed in relief. "It's just, your name, I can't remember your name." She stood back up with the same smile she had initially. "Oh that's all? It's Shiori, don't forget it this time, 'kay?" He nodded. 'Shiori, huh? Why is she being so friendly?'
"Come on, Inuyasha, you must be hungry." She ran off cheerfully towards the village, he hadn't dared go near. He followed her reluctantly, he wanted to know more, he wanted to know why he couldn't remember it. That village, why didn't he want to go near it? Why did it make bile rise to his throat ever time he stepped too close? Wy did his head hurt when he even glanced at it? He didn't know, but this girl, this half demon, this... Shiori... She might be able to tell him why.
