I never knew what love was until Kagome. She opened my eyes and made me a better man. She taught me love and compassion and I am thankful for that. For two years, we traveled side-by-side looking for shards of the Shikon no tama and defeating Naraku. I knew one day I would have to confess my love to her but first I had to take care of Kikyou. There were times when I would go to Kikyou and try to protect her because she was my first love. Unfortunately, I came to realize she never loved me with her heart because I was a hanyou. She wanted to use the Shikon no tama to purify my demon side and make me the human she wanted, though I wanted to be a full demon, she would not have it. She kept the jewel safe from people like me only to have it become her down fall.

That life-shattering day I met my most formidable foe, Naraku. He too wanted the Shikon no tama to make him a full demon. Therefore, he disguised himself as me and went after Kikyou, of course, Kikyou thought I attacked her and in return, she came after me. Somehow, I received the jewel and Kikyou saw that. She fired her arrow and pinned me to the Goshinboku.

For fifty years, I was under the spell of her arrow and left unconscious. Then one day this girl wearing strange clothing appeared. A centipede demon had pulled her through the bone eater’s well. She was wearing the strangest kimono I had ever seen. Who would have known that this girl would have such an effect on me? Her presence caused the spell to be broken and I awoke to see this girl fighting for her life. I had her pull the arrow holding me to the tree so I could kill this hideous demon. Lucky for her she pulled out the arrow just in time. That was when we found the Shikon no tama buried in her. That was the first day of the first day of the rest of my life.

I did try to take jewel from her, I still wanted to be a half demon and I wanted the jewel. We argued about it, I even told her I would kill her for the shard. Even that did not scare this strange girl it only made her angrier. We fought about many times over the next few days until Kikyou’s sister Kaede put magical beads around my neck and told Kagome to use a word to subdue me. Well just my luck she used osuwari, a word I would come to hate. Just one simple udder of the word and I was face down in the dirt. I was now hers to control. Though I would not have admitted it then I was happy to be ‘hers’.

We started our journey when the Shikon no tama was shattered and the shards covered most of the feudal era. We did not know it then but we would fall for each other sooner than later. I immediately took the part of the jerk to hide my feelings from her, though there were times when I could not help but show my devotion to her. Like when we met Miroku the lecherous monk. He rubbed her ass and that sent me into frenzy. You know when I think back on it I cannot believe she did not notice my jealous streak, well maybe she did but she never said anything to me about it. Over the next several months we were joined by a kitsune Shippo and a demon slayer Sango, all of us were after Naraku in one way or another.

We had traveled far and wide looking for shards when we had a big battle and I thought I lost Kagome, after that I had to tell her how I felt. Once again, Kagome went home to her time, to take what she called a test. I did not know what to do without Kagome with me so I went for a walk, to think how I wanted to tell her that I love her. I walked for an hour, lost in my thoughts when I ran into Kikyou. She was standing there as if she had been waiting on me. I approached scared of what she would do, she had already tried to take me to hell with her but I refused. I did not want to leave Kagome let alone die. That of course pissed her off and she came after me, but her adoration for me would not let her actually kill me.

“What are you doing her Kikyou?”

“Thinking of my previous life. What about you?”

“I just needed to take a walk.” I could not even look at her. For some reason it felt wrong, like I was deceiving Kagome, “Kikyou I can’t come with you, I can’t even protect you anymore. For one you are not the real Kikyou and two I love another. So please stay away from me.”

Kikyou just stared at me with eyes of sorrow. I knew if she had a heart, it would have broken by my words.

“You love her now don’t you Inuyasha? Yes how could you not, she loves every part…the whole you. I know now where I stand in your heart and I can’t compete with this girl.” even to me she sounded dead there were no emotions in her voice and her eyes were life less. I know I had finally made the right decision. With Kikyou finally out of my life I had to go to Kagome.

I walked to the bone eater’s well once again, I wanted to go after Kagome but a part of me was too scared of reality. What if she did not love me back kept playing in my head repeatedly, never relenting but I had nothing left to lose so I jumped.
When I climbed out of the well Kagome’s world hit me, all the strange smells attacked my sensitive nose and sent me into a sneezing fit. Her time smelled of gas, as she called it, and other noxious fumes that would make any demon weak or strong run for their lives.

Even Kagome’s hut was strange, it had two levels and was made of brick, not like Kaede’s and made of timber. Everything in Kagome’s world was strange and unnerving but she was from here and if I wanted to be with her, I would possibly have to learn how to do the things she did.

Staring at the strange sights of Kagome’s world, I headed to her hut. I could not believe I was really doing this. At first, I decided to turn around and go back because even if Kagome did love me she deserved so much better; after all I was nothing but a filthy hanyou. Then I thought about Miroku and Sango and knew how much happier they were when they finally admitted their feelings that I followed through.

I jumped to the roof and perched outside Kagome’s window watching her silently. I could not believe how beautiful she was. Her raven black hair fell gracefully to her tiny waist. Her beautiful russet eyes captivated me and pulled me to her lips. Those sensual lips made me lose my train of thought; the only thing I could think of was placing my lips on hers and melding into her soul. Before my eyes could fall any farther, she saw me sitting there. She smiled happy to see me and that made my heart jump, I knew then that this was the right thing to do. I opened her window and climbed inside hoping she would not see me trembling I went and sat on her bed.

“Inuyasha what are you doing here? I told you I had to take some tests and that I would be back in three days.”

“I know Kagome but I wanted to see you,” I started to blush ferociously. I did not want her to see that she was my weakness so I turned away from her and continued, “I had nothing else to do and Miroku and Sango kept talking about their wedding so I decided to come here for a few days. At least it’s different.” Trying to keep the waver out of my voice, I bit the inside of my cheek. ‘What in the hell is your problem,’ I thought, ‘I can fight demons day and night and never flee but I can’t even tell her I love her.’ I knew I should have taken my time and actually talked to her but I could not find the words so belting it out would have to do, “Kagome I love you will you be my mate?”

When I turned to her she had her head down, the tears were flowing freely down her cheek, ‘now I have done it, I made her cry again.’ Seeing those tears, I just wanted to hold her and stroke her hair while telling her over and over again that I love her.

I did get up and start her way when she started to speak, at first, she was moving her mouth but nothing was coming out. Therefore, I sat back down and waited for her to finish. She stopped moving her mouth, raised her head, and spoke again, “Oh Inuyasha I have waited years to hear those words from you. I tried many times, though I was subtle and you never caught on. Like you, I was scared you did not love me in return and that is why you continued to run to Kikyou. I tried again and again but as time went on I lost my courage, and now here you are telling me the things I have longed to hear…” I stood again but this time I closed the gap between us and wrapped my arms around her, drawing in her beautiful scent. I loved her and nothing was going to change that. I placed my hand under her chin and pulled her lips to mine.

At first, the kiss started tenderly and as Kagome placed her hands on the back of my head, the kiss deepened and became full of hunger. I had never felt anything like this before. With a lustful smile Kagome kissed me, this time instead of straddling me she got on all fours and shook her butt at me. I knew this was it we were going to mate and then she would be mine forever. After we finished we got up and dressed, when the image of her mother popped in my head. ‘Damn I forgot to tell Kagome about her mother walking in this morning.’

“Well this morning I just opened my eyes and saw you laying there when your mom walked in and found us both naked in the bed. I could not move or I would have covered us up, but I was too embarrassed and so was she. She turned as red as my fire rat, and then she turned around and closed the door.”

Kagome’s eyes opened with surprise, and I knew this was not going to be easy for her to explain. “Kagome I will help explain if you want me to.”

“No its okay Inuyasha, I better head down there and tell her everything. You stay here until I come back okay.”

All I could do was nod. I did not want to cause a problem between Kagome and her family so I stayed on her bed waiting anxiously for her return.

Kagome came back about an hour later and asked me to come down stairs with her. Of course expecting the worse I hesitated, I did not want to screw things up but her determination got me moving toward the stairs.

Once at the head of the stairs I stopped again, but Kagome grabbed my hand and led me the rest of the way. Finally, in the kitchen I could smell food and my stomach growled. Through all the excitement I forgot to eat and now, I was famished. Sitting at the table Kagome gave me some bacon, pancakes and eggs. I almost asked for ninja food instead but decided I did not want to be sat so I ate what was placed before me.

As I was finishing my meal Kagome’s mom walked in and blushed. She was still embarrassed by this morning as was I but I kept it together pretty well. Her mom Hitomi sat across me and smiled warmly.

“Inuyasha dear, Kagome told me everything. Therefore, I felt it was my responsibility as a mother to talk with my son-in-law. After talking to Kagome, I know that you have claimed her but for her family and friends here in her time I would like to have a wedding ceremony for you two. This will be my way of letting her go. How do you feel about this Inuyasha?”

I looked at Kagome to see how she felt about the idea of a wedding. I knew all Sango talked about was a wedding but I thought maybe Kagome was different, but the look of hope she gave me I knew what she wanted.

“Well… if this is what Kagome wants we will have a wedding.”

“Oh Inuyasha thank you!” Kagome squealed in my ear. I wanted to do whatever made her happy. Therefore, we went straight to planning the event. Kagome and her mother were arguing about what type of wedding they wanted. Hitomi kept insisting on the Shinto whereas Kagome wanted a western wedding. I tried to stay out of it as much as possible they looked like they had it all under control, of course though when they asked my opinion I tried my best to answer. No matter what my opinion was they went the opposite. I hoped our life together would never be this complicated.

We ended up staying in Kagome’s era a lot longer than we intended to. The wedding consumed most of our energy, therefore we did not want to go back and fight demons. We were even too tired to make love, when the day was over we would just hold each other until we fell asleep. This was usually when our heads hit the pillows.

Finally, after three weeks the wedding was on. Kagome of course got her way and I was in a black and white tuxedo. Following the western tradition, we were not allowed to see each other before the wedding. I had been anxious; I could not stand being away from her all day. I would go stand by her closed door and we would talk and laugh, but all I wanted to do was hold her in my arms. To my relief the wedding was at one o’clock in the afternoon, and then my wait would be over.

“Inuyasha, are you ready?” Hitomi had asked me. I told her I was but deep down I was scared to death. This was definitely harder than slaying demons, but again I wanted to make Kagome happy. As I walked toward the fateful Goshinboku tree, I fantasized about Kagome. That’s all I could do, I knew she would be beautiful no matter what but I had an image of her that would rival the gods. Of course, she was even more beautiful than I imagined. When I took my place at the base of the tree the flutes began to play, and the door opened revealing a goddess and her grandfather. I smiled at this woman coming at me. She was wearing a sleeveless wedding gown that was trimmed in red satin. The bodice of the dress contoured to her body perfectly. The train was long and elegant; it was as she was floating on a perfect white cloud. Her curled hair was half up, with the curls framing her face. She really was a vision to be had. All I could think was she is mine forever. As my bride and her grandfather met me at the tree, the ceremony started. We said our vows and performed the san san kudo; we were officially married. Because I did not have a last name, I took hers. I was now Inuyasha Higurashi.

We decided not to take a honeymoon because we had to get back to the feudal era, by this time we were gone a month and we knew Sango and Miroku would be worried.

We packed up more supplies and headed back to our friends. Her momma cried what she said was tears of joy, but Kagome and I both new she was saddened by our departure. We told her we would be back soon, and through the well we went.

I climbed the well wall with Kagome hugging tightly to my back. We were finally happy. We walked through the forest silently just enjoying each other’s presence when we heard Shippo squeal with delight. He had been patiently waiting for our return and then we were warmly welcomed back by our newfound family.
