A Goddess's love & Death's Promise
Once upon a time, a goddess felt the emptiness of her immortality freezing her heart. She looked down upon the world of the mortals and long to know their greatest gift...love. She left the comfort of the Heavens and ventured into the mortal world. Fearing that a man or woman would only love her for her power, she rid herself of her true appearance and took on the form of a young, human maiden. For days she traveled their world, observing those around. She hungered for the loving embrace of a companion, but no one seemed to have any interest in her. Then one day, as she walking through a beautiful forest, she head a man's cries for help. She ran as quickly as her human body would allow her. When she entered a clearing, she discovered a handsome young man cowering at the feet of a Inu youkai. The youaki was about to devour the young man. The goddess felt something in her frozen heart and she rid herself of her disguise. Her aura flared as holy light filled the forest. The youkai stood in awe and the human ran to stand behind the goddess. The youkai howled in pain as the light singed his skin. She stood proud and regal as she faced the youkai. Her crimson hair danced around her like wildfire and her silver eyes, full of immense power, bore into his amber ones. The youkai growled low in his chest, but he knew he could not fight her. She would kill him in one strike. He bowed before the goddess before running off. The goddess turned to face the human she had saved. She smiled at him as she returned to her human form. Her hair was still red, but duller than it had been. Her eyes were still silver, but a light blue ran around the edge. She talked to him, and began to learn much of human life from him. She spent the next few months as his companion and slowly, he melted the ice around her heart. She was in love with the mortal, and she found it to be delightful. One day she discovered there was a life growing within her and she knew that she was with child. She was not alone in this realization. The gods in the Heavens were furious with her actions and her being with child. Seeking to teach the troublesome goddess a lesson, they summoned Death. For thousands of years, Death had fought to gain his freedom but remained in their control. Whatever they commanded he was bound to comply. They commanded him to take the soul of the goddess's lover to the underworld. Death reluctantly journeyed to the mortal world which feared him and appeared at the man's bedside in the night. The goddess attempted to intervene, but Death had to obey his orders. He loved this goddess, she had been kind to him. He did not wish to cause her the pain of losing her lover. He offered the goddess a gift. He promised her that he would never come to claim the life of her child and he would aide her child if needed. The goddess did not want to lose her child as well as her lover, so she accepted his gift. The goddess cried out as her heart shattered at the lose of love. Her only comfort was the knowledge that Death could never come for her child...
