Survivor
Kagome knew things like this happened every day. Kagome knew that she was in no way responsible. Kagome knew that she would get through this like she did everything else that Fate had set up against her. Knowing, though, did nothing to ease the pain. Both physical and mental. Kagome had been kidnapped, beaten, and violently raped.
Kagome wished she could blame this on Inuyasha. He should have been there. He should have heard her screams as she had been taken from the campsite the previous night. He should have come to her rescue like he did every time she got into trouble. But, no he had not come. He was off with Her. The bane of Kagomes’ existence. The one person who could pull her down and make her feel less than human. Kikyo. Inuyashas’ dream and Kagomes’ nightmare.
Kagome knew that Inuyasha did not love her. Kagome knew that Inuyasha thought of her as a really good friend. Someone who he could rely on like he had never done before. But, never as a lover, and never like Kagome wanted him to. Well, she had wanted him once upon a time. He would have been her knight in shining armor. Riding in on the white horse, brandishing his sword, and sweeping her off of her feet and away from the danger, and everyone would live happily ever after.
Now, Kagome knew better. If she was to get out of this god forsaken hell, she was going to have to be strong and rely on no one, NO ONE, but herself. This was another truth that Kagome knew. And, she knew she had the power to do it. She knew she had the power to stop all that had happened to her. Yet, she could not. See, the funny thing about power was you had to control it. Kagome was told all the time that she was the most powerful Miko, her powers even more than that of Kikyo. But, it did her no good if she had no control of them. She could shoot purifying arrows until the cows came home and purify hundreds of youaki, but it did no good when one had no arrows. She needed to learn how to channel her powers without the use of the arrows. She needed to learn how to call upon her powers when ever she needed them and not only when she let her emotions get the better of her. She needed….damnit, she needed to get the hell out of here.
Naraku had thought of everything. He had broken her as much with his words as he had with his actions. He had told her how weak she was, how Inuyasha had never wanted her, how he would never want someone as weak as she. How her friends were put in danger every time they went into battle with her because she was a liability. How she would never compare to Kikyo. And, at first, Kagome had broken and believed him. How could his words not be true. There was plenty of proof. Hell, Inuyasha had been off with Kikyo when she was taken. How many times had Miroku and Sango been hurt protecting her after she had ran out of arrows? And the biggest proof of all was that Kikyo had never once, not once in her life been kidnapped, beaten, and raped. Kikyo was strong. Kikyo was beautiful. Kikyo had control of her powers. Kikyo was dead. And in this one thought, Kagome became calm again. Kikyo died at Naraku’s hand. Kikyo had been tricked and died because she couldn’t handle the betrayal. Kikyo had been the fool and Kagome would be the survivor. She would not let Naraku win.
Kagome knew this without a doubt. She would win. She would take back everything he had taken from her. Her pride, her feelings of safety and security, her control. She would get out of here and she would then learn the control she needed so she would never be in this situation again. She would mourn the lose of her innocence but she would not fall victim to the feelings of shame. She did not ask for this. She did not want this. She would walk from this prison and she would be ok. She may not kill the bastard now, but soon, she would be the one to bring about his demise. This she promised herself and Kagome knew she could do it.
