His New Ward

Chapter 1

Sesshomaru watched his brother and the wolf demon fighting over the Miko. So his brother had fallen for another human?

How pathetic could he be?

As Sesshomaru watched his brother and the wolf continue fighting, and as he listened to their argument, he felt anger consume him. Wasn't it enough enough for his brother to fall in love with another human? Did he have to destroy his lands in the process?

He watched as a few more trees were destroyed.

"Bakas!" He turned his head to the group at the other end of the clearing. He saw the monk with a red handprint on his cheek sitting on the ground, a happy smile plastered on his face.

How could he be happy after the beating he recieved from the Taijiya?

He saw the Miko holding a squirming kitsune in her arms as she placed a hand on the Taijiya to restrain her from hitting the monk again. He was surprised that the Taijiya would calm so much just from the touch of a mere girl. He turned away from the group as the two combatants came his way, bringing more destruction in thier wake.

He had enough of his lands being destroyed.

He turned and nodded to his captain and watched as his army surrounded the clearing.

He landed in the middle of his brothers battle and grabbed him and the wolf by their throats, "By what right do you lay waste to my lands? Do you not respect anything, brother?"

Inuyasha grabbed his brothers wrist and tried to pry his hand from around his throat. When that failed, he tried twisting away from him, "I respect alot of things just not things that have to deal with you."

"You desecrate the lands that our father built just to spar with a wolf princeling. You are more pathetic than I realized, brother. You need a lesson in honor." Sesshoumaru glared at his brother while slowly tightening his hand around his throat.

Sesshoumaru turned to Kouga and snarled, "You princeling, should have known better. Your parents will hear of this as soon as I return to my castle."

With a glare at both the wolf and his brother he released some of his poison into the air not caring if he burned their necks. In seconds both of the welps were asleep, due to lack of air and the poison now coursing through their systems. When they drooped in his hands, he tossed them both to the ground.

He turned to see the Miko running to the fallen combatants and called back, "You will not aid them Miko. They live for now, and will remain so, but they will think twice about battling on my lands and destroying them."

Kagome slid to a stop when Sesshoumaru addressed her. She turned and glared at the angry lord before her, "They are my friends and you will not stop me from helping them."

"Your courage, Miko, will get you killed one of these days. You must learn which battles are worth fighting, and which are not. I only punished them for destroying my lands. As lord here you will not interfer in my right to do so." Sesshoumaru turned to his soldiers and found the one he was searching for. "General Raiu you will remain at this camp and protect these worthless beings till they are fit to do so themselves."

He saw the general nod to him then turned back to the priestess and noticed that she had moved closer to her fallen friends.

"You try my patience, Miko. You will obey me while in my lands." Sesshoumaru walked toward her till he was standing just a few steps away from her.

"I will not obey anyone when I think what they are doing is wrong." Kagome shouted back to him, "and keeping my from my wounded friends is very wrong."

Sesshoumaru would have laughed at her if he did such things. "Miko, while in my lands you will obey my every word."

"I will not!!!" Kagome turned away from him and started walking to Inuyasha.

"Do you have no honor either. Miko? While in this Lords land you must abide by my laws and rules. If you desire not to do so you should not have entered my realm. Your father is sorely lacking in his discipline of you."

"You jerk, my father is dead. You have no right to talk about him." Kagome glared at the arrogant demon in front of her.

Sesshoumaru watched as the Miko started taking on a pinkish sheen. "Calm yourself priestess, or you might hurt your friends."

He watched as she closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. As her breathing calmed the sheen slowly disipated. The priestess has no father, and to his charigin he couldn't stop the smile that appeared on his face.

"I have the perfect plan to teach my brother some respect," he said silently.

He pointed to Kagome, "So you have no one to look after you?" Sesshomaru watched her frown at his question.

She stepped back from Sesshoumaru when she saw the smile on his face. This can't be good. "My mother and grandfather watch over me, and Inuyasha and my friends when I am here."

She bit her tongue to stop herself from saying anything else.

"Where is your grandfather? I will send for him." He watched as the girl started fidgetting. He could smell her fear escalate.

"He can not come here." Kagome lowered her eyes and bit her lip, thinking: "What was he up to?"

Sesshomaru thought of the information that the girl had told him. She was hididng something and he would find out what soon enough. He then turned to the Taijiya, "And what of your father or guardian?"

Sango knew the direction he was going with this, and didn't like it one bit. "My father is dead, and I am the only survivor from my village. I have no guardian."

Sesshomaru then turned to Shippo, "Why do you travel with this group?"

Shippo climbed on Kagome's shoulder. "My parents were killed and now Kagome is my new okaa-san."

Sesshomaru was a little shocked that a human would adopt a demon child. She was even stranger than he thought. He nodded again to his captain, and his troops gathered around the group.

Kagome, Shippo, Sango and Kirara where hit by darts and fell to the ground. Only Miroku remained untouched.

"Houshi, inform my brother and the wolf that the miko and her pup along with the Taijiya are now wards of mine. Since they have no family to mediate for them, as the Lord of these lands, the duty falls to me. They made it my problem by destroying my land. Any suitors wishing to court or mate the two will have to petition me to do so. Until they are mated, they will remain my wards. Also inform them that I expect to be paid for the damage they caused to my forest. General Raiu will remain as your protection till he is no longer needed."

He nodded to his guards and they picked up the girls, the kitsune and the neko then disappeared into the forest. Sesshomaru waited till they were safely away before he followed them.

Miroku watched the demon leave with the girls. How he wished he still had his wind tunnel, then the girls would have remained with him. He couldn't even put up a protective barrier for the girls with that guard holding a sword to his neck. He heard a groan coming from the other side of the clearing and rushed over to Koga and Inuyasha, and helped them both up.

Inuyasha groaned and rubbed his head. Surely Wolf-Breath hadn't hit him that hard.

Koga groaned then rubbed his neck. Mutt-Face couldn't have knocked him out. He sat up with the monks help and looked around him. Mutt face was trying to get up.

Kouga looked around the clearing and didn't see Kagome or the Taijiya anywhere. "Where did my Kagome go?"

"She is not your woman, you stinking wolf! How many times must I tell you this?" Inuyasha ran his hand around his throat and and faced the wolf again. "She probably saw you for the weakling that you are and ran."

Miroku knew he had to do something to stop them from resuming their battle. He walked up behind both of them and knocked them on their heads with his staff.

"No she didn't Inuyasha. Kagome and Sango were taken by Sesshomaru. I was told to inform you two that if you wanted to see them you must petition his court. He has made them wards of his court. They would remain unharmed as long as they obeyed him. You two on the other hand will have to make restitution for the damage done to his forest. He also said something about it being his right to choose their mates and that they would not leave his castle without being wed or mated." Miroku watched as the two combatatants looked at each other then at him. This is so not good.

"You let that cold demon take my mate?" Koga tried to turn and hit the monk but the pain in his neck stopped his movements. .

"She is not your mate!" Inuyasha swung at the wolf, but missed.

"She will be soon enough." Koga glared at the hanyou then rose on shakey legs and ran into the forest.

Inuyasha jumped up to follow him, and not seeing Miroku bending down to offer his help, rammed his head into the monks. He turned and saw Mirouku laying on the ground behind him so he bent over, pulled the monk over his shoulder, and took off after the idiot wolf.

"Even without the shards the baka is too quick." He muttered.
