I do not own InuYasha, nor make money from this story.
Meet Kagome Black
Author’s Note : Hi kids!! It’s me...G.S. Long time, no see....I know. Well, in order for me to clear out my head enough to finish my other stories, I felt a new one would help. Don’t ask. There is method to my madness.
Anyways, this story is based on one of my absolute favorite films, “Meet Joe Black” so I must now say that I do NOT own any of the Black or InuYasha characters. I am simply borrowing them for some fun. *smile*
This chapter is a sample one to see how it flows...no reviews, no next chapter. Plain and simple. Constructive input, please! If you flame me just for the hell of it, I’ll probably just laugh at you....a lot. But without further ado, let the story begin!
Meet Kagome Black
Coffee Shop Conversations
Another ambulance swerved and swayed through the busy, city streets as the early-morning crowds continued to make their way in the sea of humanity and concrete. A tall man in his early thirties flinched slightly at the noise as he continued to stir his coffee. Flicking the loose braid of long, snowy hair back over his shoulder, he settled his golden eyes on the chattering woman’s silhouette at the pay phone. A small smirk and raised eyebrow played his handsome features as the young woman continued to bounce about the small phone-cubical. Without realizing it, his body already leaned in slightly away from the diner counter to listen in on the girl’s rather amusing performance.
“Souta! She’s not worth it!” The young woman practically screeched into the receiver. “Just because that tramp ran around on you doesn’t mean you should just up and quit school!” Delicate hands flew up in exasperation as the girl’s raven hair flew about her, her fiery brown eyes not bothering to take notice of her new audience. “You’re almost finished, and now you want to throw it away! Please just finish Law School and forget the floozy!”
The smirk on the older man’s lips grew at the woman’s fit increased in depth. She was rather attractive but obviously dramatic and slightly off-base. A chuckle threatened to spill from his lips as he sipped his coffee, ignoring the pancakes placed before him.
“No worries, Hun. Finish school, come home, and we’ll figure this all out together, alright?” A heavy sign shook the woman’s shoulders as she allowed a small smile to grace her lips. “Okay. I’ll talk to you soon. Okay. Bye.” With that final word, the woman slowly hung up and swung around to find half of the diner staring at her. Mumbling an apology about the noise, she quickly retook her seat three stools away from her smirking admirer. “Sorry about that. It was my little brother; he’s thinking of leaving school because of his girlfriend.” The woman chirped to him with an apologetic smile.
“It’s quite alright.” Came the slow, indifferent answer, his eyes taking in her slight blush and eager stir of her own coffee cup. “I hope things smooth out for him.” The eyes fell from her form as he suddenly turned to focus on his cooled pancakes; the beauty next to him staring at him with sudden interest.
“Thank you. That’s sweet of you to say.” The woman giggled gently as she raised a hand to tuck away a rogue strand of hair behind her left ear. “Do you have any siblings?” Her head tilted lightly, genuinely interested in this quiet stranger. He seemed to eye her lightly, determining on whether or not to answer.
“I have one younger, half-brother.” His brow took a small frown. Why was he talking to this strange woman?
“Oh! Are you close?” The brown eyes widened in delight to the man’s confusion.
“Not quite...” He tipped the coffee to his lips once again and faced his plate, signing a need to change the subject. Brown eyes frowned lightly before brightening again.
“I’m Kagome.” The woman said as she threw her hand out to shake his, her smile widening all the while. The man felt his hand fall into hers, not sure how it came to rest there.
“Sesshomaru.” He answered, his deep baritone sending shivers up Kagome’s spine as he gently shook her hand.
“And what do you do, Sesshomaru?”
“I’m a doctor.” He felt her hand drop from his and mentally frowned at the loss.
“Well, it’s good to know that if I ever need a doctor that I know of one here!” Kagome laughed lightly, her eyes shinning brilliantly. “But I don’t think I could ever let you examine me.” This earned a raised eyebrow from the man next to her.
“And why is that?” Sesshomaru was surprised to find that he was actually curious for her answer.”
“Cause I like you. It would be too awkward!” She answered, her smile partially hidden behind her coffee mug. Kagome felt the shiver again as Sesshomaru faced her with a small smile on his lips, his gold eyes dancing slightly.
“I guess you would be right.” He grinned at her lazily, enjoying her company.
The two indulged in a few more cups of coffee before exiting the restaurant, the mid-morning traffic crashing around them. Sesshomaru watched as the taxis flew by before turning to the woman next to him.
“You were right, I suppose.” He said gruffly, trying to raise his voice above the city’s howls. Kagome turned to him, confusion on her brow.
“Was I?” Her tone was bemused as she again reached up to tuck the stray hair away.
“Indeed.” Sesshomaru leaned down slightly, the tiniest of smiles tugging at the corner of his lips. “I would not wish to examine you, either.”
“Why is that?” Kagome spoke up to him, blushing slightly from his staring.
“Because...I like you.” His tone was gruff again, a strange light dancing in his eyes. The trance between the two was broken as the cell at his side began to vibrate. With an annoyed grunt, and a quick scan of the received message, he turned to face Kagome once more. “It seems I am needed at work. Perhaps we shall meet again soon?” His eyes scanned hers as she nibbled her bottom lip lightly.
“Perhaps...” Her voice was gentle, and quivered slightly. “I just moved here so maybe if I need help getting around I could scout out the hospitals for your help.” Kagome’s smile grew as he nodded slowly in agreement. The cell vibrated once more in earnest.
“I do apologize but I must go.” Sesshomaru graced her with a small smile before beginning to head around the corner to hail a taxi.
“Goodbye for now then!” Kagome yelled above the traffic as she began to make her own way back to the hotel, every now and then turning around to see him walking away.
Little did she know that as she would turn away, he would turn to watch her. With a final look, he turned the corner. Kagome sighed heavily, but stifled a shriek as a small car zoomed past her. Righting her balance, she turned to shake a fist at the psychotic driver. Only then did she hear the wail of a car horn and the flash of a van’s hood. After that, the world grew dark.
To be continued?????
We’ll see!!! Give me some feedback!!!
