A Cold Heart and Warm Hands

A Little Prehistory

Disclaimer: The only characters I claim as mine in this story is the ones I have created. Which are: Rain, Haruki, Mina, Grandmother, Grandfather, Lark, and Ninishiki.

Author: This is my first Sesshamoru story. So I hope you all will enjoy it; it is posted here since there is adult content; such as language, violence, and sex. Oh this prehistory takes place before Inuyasha's father is old enough to have kids.

"My love I must go now" the tall, handsome dog demon said.

"No Haruki! Please don't go! I couldn't bare it if I lost you! I would surely die!" the equally tall, elegant female wailed.

"My gentle Mina I must. I must protect you and our daughter. You must be strong. Strong for Rain, she needs you since I won't be in this world much longer." Haruki said solemnly at his mate.

Mina looked upon her mate with her dark golden eyes and began to shed silent tears. Sadness griped her heart as took in his features. The tall female would forever remember his long flowing solid white hair, his bright golden eyes, the way his facial markings made him look more sinister than he really was, and the way his claws glistened in the moonlight. She would remember it all and store the memories for years to come when he wasn't by her side.

Haruki reached out taking a single finger and catching the teardrops and bringing them to his mouth. He tasted the salt of her tears and the spicy taste of her femininity. The white haired demon gazed upon his dog demon mate and took in her every feature. For he knew this would be the last time he would ever see Mina, his one and only true love. He noted the way her dark gray hair glistened in the moonlight, how sad her dark golden eyes looked up at him, and how beautiful she looked under the moonlight in her pale blue kimono.

"Haruki..." Mina began to say gently.

"No I must my darling." Haruki said in a finalizing voice.

Before Mina could utter another word of protest the tall, white haired demon reached out pulled the tall female to him and kissed her deeply and passionately. When the kiss broke Mina put her head on her mate's shoulder and silently sobbed.

"Mother... Father..." a small childlike voice said rather sleepily.

The pair looked at one another and then at their young daughter. Haruki smiled and walked over to Rain kneeling down to her eye level. Putting one hand upon her small, slim shoulder he gazed into her eyes and began to speak.

"Rain listen to me my child. I will no longer be here for you, for I must go and battle a very powerful evil demon by the name of Ninishkai. I know I will not live to see you again. So I have told your Mother to take you very far away. Where Ninishkai and his minions will never find you and do either of you harm."

"No father! Please don't leave Mother and me! We need you... I need you! Who will teach me how to fight with a sword or to fly on the back of Lark?" Rain wailed as she started to cry at what she was hearing.

Hearing his name Lark flew over to what the commotion was and lit on the shoulder of Rain. The tiny creature was jet black, with a reptilian appearance, and rather large bat like wings. Lark might look extremely tiny, but given the right incantation he can shoot up to the size of a small house. He might look evil, but Lark was anything but that. He had a heart of gold and deeply cared for his friend Rain. Seeing her in tears broke his tiny heart and gave her father a rather nasty look.

Haruki glared back at the tiny black creature only to earn himself a tiny fireball shot his way. Dodging quickly he gave the black reptile one last look and continued talking to his daughter. For he knew if he did not tell her now she would never know about the legacy he was about to leave her. For truly she was one of the last Noble and full blooded dog demons. With the exception of course of a young male dog demon who had his own destiny to full fill.

"Rain my sweet child. I am sure where ever your Mother takes you there will be at least one demon... or person that knows the way of swords. Besides I have a gift for you. That might help you on your journey. This gift is my legacy that I leave to you. Of course that black lizard of yours, Lark, is part of that legacy. So listen carefully my child." Haruki said in gentle, but firm voice.

Before continuing he pulled out a small medallion with a symbol in the middle of it and gently placed it around Rain's small neck.

Rain looked down at the necklace and then looked up at her father. She no longer cried, but she still had tears in her eyes ready to spill over at any given moment. For in truth Rain was embarrassed that she exploded in front of her father. Since she so desired to be like him in many ways. With that in mind she tried desperately to hold back her tears and look brave for her father's sake.

"Now then, this medallion can be used to call forth not only the sword I have left you, but also the outfit of a Noble dog demon. Not only that this medallion may also be used to call Lark to your side no matter where you are and to change Lark's size with a simple incantation. So use it wisely my child. For it holds a great deal of power.", the tall, white haired dog demon said.

Mina watched as Haruki spoke to their daughter and had to look away at times when he spoke of his death. She didn't want her own daughter to see her tears and think she wasn't brave like her mate. Rain so looked up to her father and marveled at how brave and strong he was. Smiling gently Mina waited until her mate finished to have one last goodbye kiss.

The tall dog demon gently kissed his daughter's forehead and stood back up. Haruki walked over to his mate and gave her one last goodbye kiss before transforming into his dog form and rushing off into the night.

Shedding one last tear Mina walked over to her daughter and gently picked her up in her arms. Looking back just once the proud female dog demon walked softly into the still night and headed for the famous well. Hopefully to a new and better future for their daughter.
