Ginkgo Leaves

Notes: Challenge given to me by Rachie
Pairing: Kagome/ Inutaisho
(One-side Kagome/Inuyasha. Other Pairings later on)
Genre: Romance/Humor
Rating: Currently R but will steadily climb upward.
Summary: AU: (Takes place in the one…or two episodes where Sesshomaru and Inuyasha are fighting over Tessaiga.) The jar containing the jewel shards breaks, allowing the shards to imbed themselves into Inutashio’s bones. The power of the jewel revives the former Lord of the West. Talk about a family reunion!

Chapter One:
Fortunate Accident

It was dark…very dark…and cramped.

Rustling around the young woman felt her heart race as her mind played back what had occurred before the darkness. Quickly the image of a cold face, long white hair, and claws which radiated green because of the poison, appeared to her. Panting, not out of panic, but anger the young woman realized that if she was dead then she couldn’t be angry at the person who killed her…she paused.

On the other hand, spirits were said to roam the Earth if they were angry or felt wronged by someone. Heck after chasing down shards of a pink wish-granting gem, destroying various demons, just about anything was possible now.

Closing her eyes the young woman felt pinpricks of tears form behind them, hands clasping tightly at her side, “No! I can’t be dead! I’ve got to help make things right by making the Shikon no Tama whole again! And Inuyasha, he’s still out there fighting, so I can’t just die, not like this!” Kagome exclaimed.

Suddenly the tight and dark space she was trapped in started to form tiny cracks which spread quickly like a disease over the surface of melted bone until a sudden burst of pink light caused fragments to scatter, leaving an unscathed Kagome amidst the rubble.


The sudden crackle of energy from the young woman caused both half-demon and Lord of the West to stop in mid strike.

Meanwhile a certain toad cretin…I mean loyal servant was looking around the pedestal of where Tessaiga rested. Before the stupid human girl had gotten herself trapped he had seen something drop.

Kagome was mad, no mad didn’t quite cover it, she was pissed off! Marching up to the two squabbling demons Kagome holding the sheathed sword boldly pointed it at Sesshomaru, “ Hey you! You won’t get away with trying to kill me!”

With that rather bold declaration Kagome smiled and shoved Tessaiga into Inuyasha’s hands, “Okay Inuyasha, go get him!” she said, the grin still not leaving her face.

A slightly twitched formed over Inuyasha’s right eyebrow, he was about to “thank” Kagome for giving him the object his psychotic half-brother wanted; but before he could speak the hanyou found himself dodging a poison tipped set of claws.

Meanwhile Kagome decided maybe it was best if she ducked out of the way just in case Sesshomaru decided to turn those claws on her again.

‘Out of sight out of mind right?’ she reasoned while skirting around the battle of half-brothers.

Suddenly Kagome paused, something was missing, she wasn’t quite sure what; it was just a funny feeling until she lightly patted the breast pocket of her school blouse, finding it empty.

Cold seeped into her veins as the young woman began to panic, patting down her person trying to find the missing vial.

‘Crap, crap, crap! Where did I put it?’ the school girl thought franticly since her school uniform didn’t really leave very many places to hide a jar of powerful jewel shards.

At that moment a squeaky voice was heard across the grave, “Ah I found it!”

Looking up Kagome groaned when she saw that in the hands of the now ecstatic toad demon was the missing jar. As the demon danced in glee Kagome’s dark brown eyes followed the jewel shards as they bounced around inside the vial. Gritting her teeth the young woman quickly closed the gap between her and the oblivious toad demon.

“I fou…” the toad was interrupted in mid celebration as a brown school shoe roughly collided into his backside. This sent said demon flying. Jaken wide-eyed was briefly aware that he was flying without wings before landing with a ‘smack’ into one of the bone covered walls.

Kagome was about to do some of her own celebrating, but that was before she caught sight of the jar ever so slowly descend to the ground. As soon as the fragile glass connected with hard bone…well you can guess what happened next. Glass exploded leaving the jewel shards unprotected. Quickly Kagome raced to scoop the shards up, but ended up tripping over pedestal where Tessaiga was once housed. A sharp intake of breathe came from the girl as she leaned over to grasp the shards; her index finger did manage to brush against one of them; however it was too little too late, the shards ‘melted’ into the bone floor. As soon as the jewel shards disappeared the ‘grave’ gave an ominous rumble. Wide brown eyes looked up as the bones began to move.

Blinking the only thought her mind could process was just how much trouble she was in, and by that I mean a hell of a lot.

Behind her the two half-siblings were still fighting, Inuyasha blocking Sesshomaru’s toxic punches with the casing of Tessaiga. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the girl skid across the floor, her hand open as if to grasp something, apparently had missed it since the opened palm was empty, then a look of panic overtook her face.

Next thing he knew the ground below started to shake. Inuyasha managed to block yet another blow before calling out to his human companion, “ Kagome! Get out of here!”
Rising to stand up the young woman was torn between running for her life and for trying to convince Inuyasha to leave this place with her.

Sesshomaru for his part could feel the bones beneath his feet shake, but neither hell nor heaven was going to stop him from getting Tessaiga. With that in mind Sesshomaru took an opening and stabbed Inuyasha with the tip of his poison claws, ramming his younger sibling against the bone wall.


Struggling Inuyasha raked his claws against Sesshomaru’s wrists causing small trickles of blood to appear alongside the deep blue markings; still his grip on Inuyasha never wavered. The two brothers’s continued to struggle until Sesshomaru’s eyes widened slightly in surprise as sinews crept over the bone, knitting together to form muscle which contracted as the poison burned it.

“Master!” Jaken piped up as he had to squeeze passed a mending ribcage, waving his staff wildly as he hurried to Sesshomaru.

Abruptly the Lord of the Western lands withdrew his claws; allowing Inuyasha to drop to the ground with a rather squishy ‘thud’ since the bones under their feet was re-growing flesh.

“What the fuck!” Inuyasha exclaimed as he had to dodge a rather large piece of bone which was trying to melt back into the hip bone.

“Inuyasha!” Kagome cried out racing to him, before she could even touch him though two strong arms cinched around the waist and proceeded to carry her off. Kagome tried to look behind her; yet her eyes widened when a glance over her right shoulder allowed her to view the massive pile of bones reconfigure as muscle and flesh started to cover the melding pieces.

Looking ahead Kagome could see where they had entered start to close up as skin started to close in the large hole. Closing her eyes Kagome felt both her and captor dart outside into the rock plateau. Directly behind them there were curses being fired off as Inuyasha emerged.

Kagome blinked, ‘Wait a second, if that’s Inuyasha over there… then who has me?”

Slowly the girl turned her head, only to scream when she saw the very person…uh demon which had tried to kill her earlier had ‘rescued’ her.

‘But why?’ Kagome asked herself, it didn’t take long for her to receive an answer.

Once Inuyasha had emerged from the mass of bones Sesshomaru dropped Kagome to the ground; before the girl could recover from the shock of being dropped a clawed hand roughly grabbed her wrist, holding another set of claws against her neck as the now familiar green glow appeared on the tips.

“Hey! You bastard let go of Kagome!” Inuyasha yelled.

“Not until you hand Tessaiga over to me,” Sesshomaru stated coolly.

Kagome had to crane her neck back to keep the poison from dripping onto her skin.

Directly across from them Inuyasha glared at his brother, his grasp tightly on the sword, an internal debate going on inside.

He couldn’t let Sesshomaru kill the girl since she could see Shikon no Tama shards, but on the other hand the sword could be helpful in their quest, plus it was HIS sword to be begin with.

All debate halted when Kagome turned pitiful and scared brown eyes on him, they practically begged him to save her. Her lower lip quivered and his handle on the sword was gradually releasing. Just as Inuyasha was about to throw the sword to Sesshomaru a large ‘crack’ resounded behind him.

Looking over his shoulder Inuyasha watched as the once pile of bones had was now covered in flesh, tuffs of white fur rapidly spreading over the skin just as the massive beast arose from laying on its side. Four gigantic paws covered in white fur shook the ground when they landed firmly on the plateau. A large jaw opened and closed as if to test it out before opening wide a low and loud howl was heard. A black nose wiggled slightly as it picked up on at least three scents, from three different demons…no wait there was a fourth smell…a human or more specifically a human girl.

The dog demon gazed down at the small group; it took him awhile to recognize the toad servant and the full demon that currently had the girl in his grasp. While standing across from him was a face he didn’t recognize, yet he knew who it was almost instantly.

Red eyes closed as the full demon inu shrank in size and change form until where there once was a dog demon there was a man with long white hair dressed in armor. Two sets of golden eyes and one of brown watched as the former Lord of the West approached them. Jagged blue strips contrasted the straight claw-marking ones that Sesshomaru had on his wrists and face. Long white hair which was about waist length also had an even longer ponytail tailing from the top of his head.

Golden eyes stared directly at Sesshomaru and the girl he had captured.

Sesshomaru glared back, but without a word he released the girl.

Scared Kagome looked between the two full demons, both didn’t look overly happy to see the other. Her gaze went to Inuyasha, who seemed to be just as uncertain and confused as she was.

Suddenly Kagome’s view was blocked as the new demon grasped her by the chin. The young woman winced as she felt the claws of the hand press lightly against her skin, “Look at me girl,” a low voice stated with authority.

Feeling that she had no choice Kagome slowly looked up, eyes of dark brown collided with burning amber which she readily recognized since she had seen similar eyes stare at her before. Once in cold distaste and the other set when she had removed a cursed arrow to release the hanyou. Needlessly to say it didn’t take Kagome long to put the pieces together.

Slowly her lips moved to speak, “You…you’re Inuyasha’s father…aren’t you?” she asked softly.

It took a moment, but a slight smile did cross his lips, “Yes, I am Inutaisho, Lord of the Western Lands.”

Notes: Whew! Glad that’s over with; first chapters are always the hardest for me to write. I know there really isn’t much going on in this chapter but I have to explain how Inutashio comes to life.

PS: Since not much is known about Inutaisho (I am not even sure about the name, but nine of of ten Inuyasha fan websites had his name listed as Inutaisho), from either the manga, anime, or movies I will be taking some liberties. However I am also an open book for information, so if you know anything concrete about Inutashio, what he looks like, his character ect please tell me so that I can make this fic as accurate to the manga/anime as possible kay?
