“Do you really have to go?” Shippou sat on the ground by the well with a pout on his face, tears started welling up in his eyes.

“Yes Shippou, I have to go. It’s one week before finals. I have to study so I can graduate. If I pass all my tests, I’m done with school. Then I can spend as much time here with you as you want.” Placing her back pack on her shoulder, she walked towards the well looking back at Shippou.

“I still don’t want you to go, who cares about school anyways. I think your tests are stupid.” Shippou sat with his arms crossed looking up at Kagome.

Sighing Kagome turned her body around to look at Shippou. She stood with her arms crossed glaring down at him with a motherly look on her face, ready to scold him. “You know Shippou, I think you have been spending too much time with InuYasha, and do you wanna know why?” He stopped pouting for the moment as he felt her accusatory glare, “You are starting to sound just like him.”

“Hey, I resent that!” InuYasha yelled as he jumped out from behind the Goshinboku. “That little runt is nothing like me!” Crossing his arms in his fire rat, he harrumphed, and turned his head, all the while watching Kagome from the corner of his eye, ears twitching.

Kagome shook her head and looked from InuYasha to Shippou. Shippou was sitting on the ground with his arms crossed and his head turned just like InuYasha. “Yeah, don’t put me in the same category as that baka!” Shippou looked at Kagome through squinted eyes.

“Who are you calling a baka, runt!” InuYasha lunged onto Shippou. Just as he was getting ready to thonk him on the head Kagome jumped up onto the edge of the well. “Kagome, aren’t you going to…” InuYasha sat up and Shippou ran away.

“Sit boy!”

As InuYasha slammed face first into the ground Kagome jumped into the well and back to her time.

“I’m home! Mom, Souta, gramps? Where is everyone?” Kagome dropped her bag from her shoulder, removed her shoes, and then walked into the kitchen. Opening the refrigerator she grabbed some juice and as she shut the door, she noticed a note. Getting a glass from the cabinet, she poured some juice while she read:

‘Went to grab a bite to eat, and then to the grocery store. Be back soon, mom.’

“That answers that question.” Grabbing an apple out of the bowl of fruit on the counter, Kagome picked up her glass of juice and started through the house, lifting her backpack as she went and up the stairs to her room to study.

Sitting her glass of juice on her desk, she sat and took the books from her bag. The only one she hadn’t taken with her was her history book that was sitting on her desk by her laptop. The only reason she hadn’t taken it with her was because that year they were studying the feudal era. She knew enough about it from her adventures with her friends that she didn’t really need to study too much.

She took a couple of bites out of her apple and set it down on her desk to study geometry. It was her worst subject by far, and since she had missed so much school, she was at a complete loss. As she looked through the chapters her eyes started to feel heavy. Her eyes would close, and she would jerk her head up, bringing her attention back to her work.

Soon she was asleep with her head pillowed on her arm, her geometry book open, pencil still in hand. The apple on her desk, long forgotten, began browning from the exposure to the air.

The window opened slowly and InuYasha jumped in, mindful not to wake her. He pulled the covers down on her bed and then carefully picked Kagome up. She unconsciously wrapped her arms around his neck and snuggled against his chest. “Hmm, Inu…Yasha.”

InuYasha stopped, thinking he had woke her. Then he heard her snore softly and snuggle tighter against him. ‘Is she dreaming about me?’ He thought as he laid her down on her bed and pulled the covers up over her. She snuggled into the blankets as InuYasha sat and watched her sleep.

“Inu… Yasha…”

‘She did it again! She is dreaming about me!’ He leaned slightly closer to her. ‘Should I, no, no I shouldn’t.’ Leaning back onto his haunches as he sat there like a little lost puppy.

“Sit boy!”

“Wawawaargh!” Slamming face first into the floor, he grumbled under his breath. “Stupid Kagome, she even sits me in her sleep!” He heard her waking and quickly made his way through her window, trying to get back to the safety of the feudal era.

Kagome turned over and grabbed her pillow. “Love… Inu..Yasha.” She mumbled, but no one was there to hear it.

Kagome had managed to make it to school without running into any of her friends. That was something new, considering they’re always there when she doesn’t want to see them. The one time she did, they weren’t anywhere to be found.

She made her way through the school and to homeroom. Sitting down at her desk she noticed that her friends weren’t there yet. ‘That’s strange.’

As the bell rang, her three friends made their way into the room, with someone new following behind them.

“Kagome, you’re here!” Ayumi said as she ran to give Kagome a hug.

“Well, it is a week before finals after all, and I have a lot of studying to catch up on.” Kagome smiled as the new girl sat down in the desk beside Kagome. “Hi, I’m Kagome.”

“Hi.” The girl said as she took out her notebook and began to write.

Eri leaned over and whispered to Kagome. “Don’t mind her. She’s a little weird but she’s really smart. She’s been helping us some. If it wasn’t for her this year, I don’t think I would graduate!”

Kagome looked over at the girl. She looked, different. She was pretty, She had short, jet black hair to her shoulders, her almond shaped eyes were covered by cat eye glasses, but her eyes looked almost… no, there’s no way, could there? The girl looked up and locked eyes with Kagome. Her eyes were green, but it looked like there were little flecks of… gold?

Kagome realized she had been caught staring and fumbled to try and think up an excuse. “I’m sorry. You have really pretty eyes,” which wasn’t exactly a lie. “I’ve never seen anyone with that coloring before.” That however, was. “What’s your name?”

The girl looked warily at Kagome. Not many people had been very nice to her. It might be nice to have a friend. “I’m Ishikengo. You can call me Ishi.”

Kagome held her hand out. “Nice to meet you Ishi.”

The girl hesitantly shook Kagome’s hand. She let a small smile escape.

“Ok people.” Their first period teacher walked into the room. “Time to get started. I have a practice exam for you.”

8888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888

The weeks flew by quickly. Kagome hadn’t realized how much she had actually missed. She was completely lost, that is, until Ishi said she would help her. It seemed that Ishi was really good in every subject except history. Ishi had been at a complete loss when it came to the feudal era, and she stumbled through it all year. Kagome had volunteered to help her with that, and Ishi said she would help Kagome in her other classes.

The girls were practically inseparable the whole two weeks. Kagome was sad because she had promised Shippou that she would come back as soon as her finals were done, but she was going to miss talking with Ishi.

Ishi was just so much fun. She had never met anyone like her. Once you broke through the wall Ishi had set up, Kagome had found out that Ishi was very strong willed, determined, and an absolute blast. She had a unique sense of self that Kagome wished she could have had. Once Ishi changed out of her school uniform, you could barely tell who she was. It seemed that she only wore her glasses at school, and most of the time, her short hair had been pulled back into tiny pig tails at the back of her head. She never wore make-up, which amazed Kagome. Her complection was perfect, not one zit or blemish marked her face, and Kagome was completely jealous.

She wore long gypsy skirts as much as she wore jeans. She always looked cute, no matter what she wore, which made Kagome jealous yet again, but she didn’t care. They were almost the same size, so Ishi had said that Kagome could borrow her clothes whenever she wanted.

The more she got to know Ishi, the more she thought how much Ishi and her other friends had in common. Ishi’s parents died when she was just six years old. She didn’t say how, and Kagome hadn’t asked. She went to live with her grandmother, but then she died three years later. After that, Ishi was bounced from foster home to foster home, until she had had enough, and left. At sixteen, she was all alone, with no one, and managed to find an apartment, keep a job, and finish school. Kagome felt sad about leaving her, especially since she had no one. But what was she supposed to do. It’s not like she could take her back to the feudal era with her. The only ones who could pass through the well was she and InuYasha.

“Kagome?” Ishi waved a hand in front of Kagome’s face.

“Huh? Oh, sorry.” Kagome said as she studied for her last exam ever, unless she decided to go to college when they finally defeated Naraku.

“That’s ok. It’s getting late. I should go home anyways.” Sadness could be heard in Ishi’s voice and Kagome couldn’t help the little tug her heart gave.

“Why don’t you stay here tonight? I think we’ve studied all we can. If I don’t know it now, I never will. Why don’t we celebrate with a movie and some popcorn?” Kagome smiled at Ishi, hoping this would cheer her up.

Ishi smiled, “Are you sure your mom won’t mind?”

“No way, come on, this’ll be fun.” Kagome got up from her chair and grabbed Ishi’s hand. “We’ll go back to your house, get your clothes, and then come back and enjoy the rest of the night.”

Ishi smiled like she never had before as Kagome pulled her along. She finally had a friend. Someone who she hoped she could trust with a secret, she once thought, she would never tell anyone.

InuYasha paced back and forth in front of the well. ‘What the hell’s taking her so damn long. She should be back by now. I’ve waited long enough. I’m going to get her.’

InuYasha jumped into the well to retrieve Kagome.

Once he jumped out of the well and into the well house he sniffed the air. Something didn’t smell right. He kept walking, all the while keeping his ears at full attention and sniffing as he went. As he walked into the house and the new smell intensified, a small growl escape his mouth.

“Oh, hello InuYasha. Kagome isn’t home from school yet, but she should be shortly.” Kagome’s mom stood in the kitchen drying a dish, smiling at him. “Would you like something to eat? Maybe some Ramen?”

At the mention of Ramen InuYasha perked up. “Yes please.”

Mrs. Higarashi smiled at InuYasha and turned to boil some water. One day she had finally gotten fed up with InuYasha and told him that in her house, he would use some manners. Most of them hadn’t stuck, but he did say please and thank you now at least.

InuYasha sat eating his Ramen watching Souta play a video game as Kagome came running into the house. “I’m home!”

“Well hello dear. How was your day?” Mrs. Higarashi asked as she took Kagome’s bag from her.

“Wow! I’m so glad I’m done with school! The test wasn’t that bad. Without Ishi, I don’t think I could have passed any of them.” Kagome’s eyes saddened immediately, and InuYasha turned with a mouthful of Ramen when he smelled the change in her scent. She was sad about something.

Kagome smiled at InuYasha and he frowned at her. “Oi, what’s wrong woman. You’re done. No more stupid tests, and you don’t always have to come back so often. So why are you so sad?” InuYasha shoved more Ramen in his mouth and slurped at it to get every last noodle in.

“I don’t think she’s sad about that InuYasha.” Mrs. Higarashi turned to look at her daughter. “It’s Ishi, isn’t it? You’re sad you have to leave her.”

“Hoo da ells Ishi?”

“InuYasha, don’t talk with your mouth full.” Mrs. Higarashi scolded.

Swallowing what was left in his mouth he turned to Mrs. Higarashi. “Sorry.” Turning back to Kagome he pointed his chop sticks at her and said, “Who the hell’s Ishi?”

Kagome sighed and sat down on the couch. “Ishi is a new girl at school. If it wasn’t for her, I never would have passed any of my exams. She has no one. Her parents died when she was little, then her grandma, and then when she was sixteen, she moved out on her own. She has no one, and I feel so bad leaving her. She’s really nice, I like her a lot.”

“Who cares! We have jewel shards to find, and I can’t find them without you. She’ll get over it.” He stuffed his mouth with Ramen and looked at her. “What?” He asked with his mouth full.

“InuYasha! You are such an inconsiderate jerk! I don’t know why I put up with you!” Kagome stood up from the couch. “I’m going to my room!” She started stomping up the steps when InuYasha stood up from the couch.

“Kagome…”

“SIT BOY! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT! SIT!” Walking up the stairs she mumbled under her breath, “Stupid InuYasha. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself. All I am to him is a shard detector. Why do I even put up with him, stupid baka!”

When InuYasha could finally move again, he heard Kagome’s bedroom door slam shut.

InuYasha sighed. He had heard the last part. She wasn’t a shard detector, she was more, so much more to him, but he just couldn’t tell her the truth. She had finally graduated from school. She could be his soon. A few months ago, he had gone to Mrs. Higarashi and asked permission to make Kagome his mate. She had agreed as long as he waited until she graduated. He waited, and now that she was graduated, all he wanted to do was to get her back to the feudal era, and claim her as his. Another sigh left his lips, “I should go talk to her.” He stood up and began walking up to her room.

He stopped as he heard her crying on the bed. He hated when she cried, especially when he was the one who caused it. Now he really did feel like a stupid baka. “Kagome.”

The crying stopped. “Kagome, let me in, I just wanna talk to you.”

“No. Go home InuYasha. I’ll be there in a few hours. Just, leave me alone.”

She sounded exhausted. Knowing her tests were always strenuous on her, he figured with as many as she had and how much she had to study for them, she was probably on the verge of sleeping for a week. He opened the door and walked in. “Kagome, I’m… sorry.”

She sat up straight and looked at him. ‘Did he just say he was sorry? He never says that.’ “Yeah right InuYasha. You’re just saying that so you don’t lose your shard detector! That’s all you ever think of me as. It’s the only thing I am to you isn’t it?” Looking into his eyes, she thought she struck a nerve. “Damn it InuYasha, I hate you!” Tears returned to her eyes and she threw herself back onto the bed, hiding her face in her pillow. “Just leave me alone. Go back and forget about me. Find Kikyo and be happy. I won’t stop you this time.” Sounding as if she had lost all energy to yell at him, she sighed.

InuYasha saw her form shaking from the tears that he had caused her. Over and over again, he had caused her this pain. He felt like a piece of shit. Walking over to her, he sat down on the bed. Putting his hand on her back, he started rubbing in slow circles. “Come on Kagome, don’t cry. I’m sorry, really I am. Just, stop crying ok?”

Laying down beside her, he pulled her into his embrace. She looked into his eyes, hers still swimming with tears. “I don’t hate you InuYasha.”

“I know Kagome.” He pulled her closer so her head was against his chest. As he wrapped his arms around her, he felt her arm close around him. He could smell her scent change. She was no longer mad, just sad. “You know you’re more than a shard detector. That’s not why I keep coming back to get you. I like being with you Kagome. You were the first person who ever accepted me for who I am. It took me a while, but I finally realized that Kikyo didn’t love me. She wanted me to become human to destroy the Shikon Jewel. All I was to her, was a way for her to escape from being it’s protector. I never loved her either. I didn’t know what it was to love someone… until I met you.”

He felt her go rigid in his embrace. She did love him, didn’t she? Of course not, how could she love a freak like him. He had hoped too much. When she still hadn’t said anything, he tried to unwrap his arms from her and tried to sit up, but she wouldn’t let go of him. She pulled her face away from his chest and new tears had formed in place of the old ones. She whispered, “InuYasha, what are you saying?”

He saw hope dance across her eyes, and the love that she held for him. “I’m saying Kagome,” He ran his clawed hand over her hair and rested it against her cheek. “That I love you, and if you’ll accept me, I want to be your mate.”

Tears poured over her eyes as a smile escaped her lips. Tilting her head up, she met her lips with his, kissing him softly, and passionately. She pulled back slowly, and rested her forehead against his. “I love you too InuYasha. There’s no one for me, except you.” She buried her head against his chest and reveled at the feel of his arms wrapped around her. “It’s always been you InuYasha, only you.” She felt safe and secure wrapped in his embrace, she felt home.

Kagome awoke an hour later, with her hanyou still holding her. ‘My Hanyou. Well, not completely yet, but who cares. He is mine, even if we haven’t mated yet. We will. No wonder he wanted to go back to the feudal era so quickly.’ She looked up at his face. He looked so peaceful. She smiled and leaned her head against his to kiss him.

He woke as she pulled away, with a smile on his face. “Are you ready to go? Shippou’s been driving me nuts the past two weeks.” He ran his clawed hand over her hair, and leaned down for a good morning kiss. It was only meant to last a moment, but her couldn’t let her go. He drew her closer to him and asked for entrance to her mouth, which she willing gave by parting her lips. A moan escaped and he plunged his tongue into her mouth, as they battled for dominance with their tongues.

Finally realizing that if they continued, he would do more than kiss her, he slowly and teasingly pulled his mouth from her. “Come on, we should get going.”

She smiled at him, with a hazy, dreamy look in her eyes, then she stretched. “Yeah, just let me pack some things. I’ll have a lot more room now that I don’t have to take my books with me.”

After they were packed and ready to go, Kagome said goodbye to her family. She didn’t know when she would be able to return, so she took a few extra moments with them.

After saying goodbye, her family went back inside the house and turned out the porch light.

InuYasha grabbed her hand and started towards the well just as Ishi turned the corner. She stopped as she saw Kagome turn back around. The guy she was with disappeared into the well house and Kagome ran back to the porch and picked something up. Kagome made her way back to the well house, and Ishi followed her.

She saw Kagome climb up onto the side of the well. ‘Oh my god, is she gonna jump?’ Just as Kagome was getting ready to jump into the well, she heard Ishi scream, “Kagome, no!” Kagome slipped and started to fall backwards into the well. Ishi reached out for Kagome, grabbing her sweatshirt as she started to fall. Ishi tripped on a something and fell into the well behind Kagome.

There were lights all around her, and she felt as if she were being pulled towards something. She tried screaming, but nothing could escape her lips. Just as quickly as it happened it was over. Ishi felt herself touching the bottom of the well. “What the hell?” Suddenly she felt a pair of arms wrap around her.

“Oh my god, Ishi, you could have been killed! What were you thinking?”

“Oi Kagome, hurry up!” A male voice could be heard from atop the well.

“What the hell’s going on?” Ishi looked up and saw a boy with long white hair and… dog ears?

Kagome looked up at InuYasha. “We’re coming.” ‘How was she gonna explain this? How did it happen? She and InuYasha were the only ones able to travel through the well, so how did Ishi manage to? Kagome started climbing up the rope ladder to the top of the well, Ishi following behind her.

With the help of InuYasha, she pulled herself up and over the well, landing on the grass by his feet. “Um, InuYasha, I think there’s something you and I need to talk about.”

Just as he was about to ask her what, he saw hands grasp the top of the well as a girl emerged and pulled herself out of the well and onto the ground. She looked around in total amazement. Standing up on shaky legs, she looked at Kagome and InuYasha.

InuYasha pushed Kagome behind his back. This girl had the same scent as what he smelled earlier. The same one he didn’t like. “Who are you?” He asked, his hand resting on the hilt of Tetsuiga.

Ishi slowly started backing up as she looked at the boy in front of her. He was almost like…

“InuYasha, Sit boy!”

Ishi watched in amazement as the beads on the boy in front of her started to glow and then he was slammed to the ground. Kagome walked around him and towards Ishi. “Come on Ishi,” Kagome said as she held her hand out towards her friend. “There’s a lot of stuff I need to tell you about.”

Walking around InuYasha Kagome started towards the village with Ishi’s hand in hers. “InuYasha, grab my back and let’s go.” Turning back to Ishi, she had the sound of excitement in her voice. “I can’t wait for you to meet my friends.”

Ishi looked at the boy who was slowly standing up from the ground. She then turned to Kagome. “Kagome, what’s going on? Where are we?”

Kagome stopped and smiled at Ishi. “Welcome to the Feudal Era Ishi!”

“Ok, so let me get this straight.” Ishi sat in Kaede’s hut staring at Kagome’s friends. She had just sat through a very long story about how, when Kagome turned fifteen, she was pulled into the well by a demon and arrived in the feudal era.

“Kagome, on your fifteenth birthday, you were pulled through the well by a demon. This demon bit you on your side, and the Shikon Jewel was released from your body. You are also the reincarnated miko Kikyo.”

Kagome shook her head yes. She was still too happy to have her new friend here with her.

Ishi looked at InuYasha. “You are a Hanyou. A half-dog demon, half-human, named InuYasha, who was pinned to a tree for 50 years by Kikyo who thought you tried to kill her, when in fact it was Naraku.” InuYasha humphed and turned his head.

“You,” she said turning to Miroku, “are a monk, who was cursed by Naraku, and the only way to destroy the curse is to kill him.”

Ishi turned towards Sango and as she put her hand up, it was caught in Miroku’s grasp. Looking around she saw Sango fuming, Kagome shaking her head, and InuYasha looking at Miroku. “The lecher never learns.” He mumbled under his breath.

“Lady Ishi,” Miroku began, “I was wondering if you would do me the honor of bearing me a son.”

Ishi looked at the monk who had a slight smirk on his face. Sango stood up with flames flying from her, “MONK!”

Ishi lost it. She started laughing at Miroku who had a frown replace his smirk and looked down at the floor. Ishi fell to the floor holding her stomach with tears falling down her face. “Oh my Kami! That is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard!”

Everyone looked from the depressed Miroku, to the girl lying on the floor of the hut, rolling in laughter. Kagome started giggling, and Sango let a smile crack her face, thankful that this girl apparently had no interest in the monk. Even InuYasha was smiling at the look on the monk’s face.

When Ishi was finally able to stand up she walked over towards Miroku. “Is that the best pick up line you have? Because if it is, I think you need to work on some new material.”

She started laughing again and InuYasha let a chuckle escape. “I think I like her.”

Miroku turned with shame and went over to sit by Sango. “Oh no you don’t monk.” Sango stood up and sat down beside Kagome.

When Ishi was done laughing for the second time at Miroku, she continued. “You’re a demon slayer whose village and family were killed by Naraku. He has control over your brother, and you want to destroy Naraku in order to get your brother back.”

Sango shook her head yes and smiled up at Ishi.

Looking towards Kaede Ishi began, “You are Lady Kaede, a miko, who is the sister of Kikyo.”

“Ay child. And you are Ishi, friend of Kagome, from her time. I still do not understand how ye are able to travel through the well when no one, except for Kagome and InuYasha are able.” Kaede looked at the young girl and noticed the necklace she wore around her neck. As she looked closer, she realized that the necklace held a concealment and protection spell on it.

Ishi bowed her head as she saw Lady Kaede take notice of her necklace. “You know don’t you.”

Everyone turned from Ishi to Kaede. InuYasha spoke. “What do you know old hag?”

Kagome elbowed him, “InuYasha, be nice.” Turning to look at Ishi Kagome asked, “What does she know Ishi?”

Standing Ishi turned around not wanting to look at her new friend. “I was hoping that you would be the first person I trusted with this, but it looks like I’ll have to trust your friends as well. “My full name is Inu-Ishikengo. It was the name I was given by my parents. When I realized what it meant, I changed it to just Ishikengo.” Hearing a small gasp escape from Kagome, she turned around with tears in her eyes.

“I’m sorry Kagome, but I was told never to tell anyone who I really am. I watched my parents die, murdered by an evil man. My mother told me never to tell anyone, or to take this off.” She held the charm on the necklace between her fingers, rubbing it like a worry stone.

“I never have taken it off. I was too worried about what would happen if I did, but now that I’m here I have a favor to ask Lady Kaede.” Crossing the hut she knelt down in front of Kaede, and then bowed her head.

“What is it child?” Kaede asked as she ran her hand over Ishi’s hair.

Ishi reveled in the comfort she was given. With the sound of tears in her voice, Ishi asked. “Lady Kaede, if I remove my necklace, would you be able to cast the same spells on another that will allow me to use it at will?”

Kaede smiled down at the girl. “Yes child, now, show ye friends why ye worried so.”

Raising her head Ishi smiled at Kaede. “Thank you.”

Standing up she turned to look at Kagome, and her new friends. Taking a deep breath, she removed the necklace from her body. A white light started to swirl around her. She felt her energy released and trembled at the effect.

Kagome couldn’t believe her eyes. A white light surrounded Ishi. Her short black hair quickly grew white, and then poured itself down her back to below her knees. Her round ears quickly became pointed and stripes appeared at her cheeks. Her eyes that were once almond shape became more angled. Her nails started to grow and become claws. When the light disappeared, Ishi opened her eyes to reveal golden eyes staring back at Kagome.

Tears started to form at the corners of Ishi’s eyes. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, but, I didn’t know.” Immediately Ishi was gone.

Everyone stood completely silent. Kagome was the first to speak. “Is she a…”

InuYasha stood in amazement. How could she have lived in Kagome’s era. He had never heard of another demon living in her time. How was it possible that Ishi was a… “She’s a full Inu Youkai.” InuYasha said with confusion in his voice.

This was something i have been toying with in my mind for a while. While i love a sesshy/rin pair, i thought why not try something else. I hate the sesshy kagura pairings, so i figured i'd try a new character.

Please review!!!! I need people to review so i know whether i should delete this or keep adding chapters. i'll keep writing it regardless, but if i don't get any reviews, i won't post it. simple as that.
