Chapter 1
She sat lazily in the grass. The sound of crickets all around her as night began to take over the beautiful sun-scorched sky. It had been quite a few hours since she had fled their camp site and no one had come to look for her. She felt sure that her time there was almost spent as she picked herself up from the ground. She had now been traveling back and forth to feudal Japan for almost ten years. Her twenty-fifth birthday was quickly approaching, and she intended to go home for a few days to spend some time with her family. As usual this caused an argument. She walked through the woods trying to find her path back to the well. 'Why can't he just give in once? Why not if only to see a smile on my face just once he could just give in.' She thought to herself for a long time before stepping to the well's lip and jumping over to become engulfed by the comforting blue light that would take her home to the normalcy and solitude of her family.

'I swear I never get a moment of rest. “Inuyasha do this, Inuyasha do that, Inuyasha SIT!" She is aggravating.' He had fought with her for sometime before she had apparently grew tired of trying to convince him that she wanted to go home, and that everything would still be the same when she got back. The Demons will still be their routine. The truth was that she had been gone for at least a few hours now and neither pride nor shame was about to tell him that he couldn't go look for her. The longer he sat pirched in his tree the more afraid he was that something horrible may have happened to her. He jumped from his pirch and eyed Miroku, “If I don't find this stupid girl you guys won't let me live it down if something happens to her." The comment was made more for the fact that he wanted to save what pride he had left rather than show emotions.
Miroku shrugged as Inuyasha set off, “She isn't as helpless as she used to be. She most likely got angry and retreated home through the well. You wouldn’t be in this predicament if you would just give in a little."
Inuyasha scowled at Miroku's words as he ran. He found a place in the grass that positively emanated of her wonderful and pure scent. The grass was laid down where she had apparently spent some time enjoying the peace and quiet. There wasn’t any sign of her, but there was another scent. A scent he knew and didn't like. It was a scent that he had never liked, "Sesshomaru."
" You called Hanyou. I would have thought that by now you could at least address me with a little dignity, but what can you expect from a creature who wasn't born with any" recited Sesshomaru lazily.
He gazed around, but found none of the minions that normally traveled with him. "What do you want bastard? Why the hell are you tracking my group?"
"I seek only the guidance of the young Miko that is usually at your side." Sesshomaru never faltered once in his tone. “Her devine presence is requested by my vassel.”
"Well you'll have to go through me to get to her, and there is no way that she would go anywhere with you anyway." Inuyasha steamed. The thought of his brother wanting Kagome for anything couldn't possibly be good. He didn’t even like humans, so why would he want Kagome. It was too dangerous for her to be around him.
"I bear her no ill will, nor you on this particular trip. This Sesshomaru would like to extend an invitation to the pair of you to come stay at my home for a short while. You are aware of my Ward, Rin. She is in dire need of a woman's companionship, and the young Miko is the only other human worthy to exist in my presence." Sesshomaru waited. He waited patiently for the next ignorant thing to come from his incompetent brother's mouth. He waited in vain. For once the stupidity never came. Miracles happened every day.
"Sesshomaru, I.........I'll tell her. She loves to run her mouth. Maybe it'll get her off my back for a while. She would probably love to see Rin. It’s been a long time since we saw her. I was beginning to thing you might have ate her, but what ever you say it’s still Kagome’s decision." He slumped down, actually surprised. He never thought for one minute that he was going to show up with an invitation to see the home that half his heritage had lived in. It was like a dream come true for him, but he wasn’t about to let anyone know that; especially Sesshomaru. He could and would use it against him in the future. “Lets face it, I don’t feel like being cannon fodder for one of your games so what the hell do you want?”
”I believe the miko can be of some use to me should she decide to come. You would be well please as well to see the land your father ruled.” Sesshomaru knew he could sweeten the offer even more. “Perhaps you would like to see how This Sesshomaru is running our father’s land?”
“I’ll give her the option, but she’s in a bad mood today. I don’t even know if she wants to talk to me, let alone hear about you. Maybe if I tell her it’s for Rin she won’t be so mad at me. But like I said It’s still up to Kagome to decide.”
“Should you decide to come you need not bring anything but yourselves. The rest will be provided for you upon your arrival. My home is more than adequate to take care of all your young Miko’s wishes and desires. Of course, it is only should she decide to come.” Sesshomaru simply stated.
“It would be unnerving to say thank you so……………”
"This Sesshomaru will leave you now. Arrive in a timely fashion." With that last remark made he disintegrated into a ball of light and was gone.
Inuyasha stood still gazing out over the trees for a minute or two stunned at the offer that was just offered. Inuyasha still dazed and confused about what exactly just took place managed to track his way in the direction that Kagome had gone and followed her through the well. He wasn’t really looking forward to seeing her while she was still mad, but she would just have to get over it. Damn what was he supposed to do confess undying love. Yeah that was about to happen in this lifetime.

Sango and Miroku had had about as much of Shippo as they could stand. They were all too glad to let him go play with the village children. Something had to give and unfortunately it was going to be them. He had asked the no less than twenty times already if they would hurt Inuyasha for him since he was too small. He even tried to bribe Miroku to seal him with an afuda charm when he got back from tormenting Kagome, but sending him out into the village seemed to be the only way they were going to get any peace in the hut at this rate.
Since the argument between Kagome and Inuyasha things had been a little stotic to say the least. Kaede was traveling to a neighboring town to nurse a set of newborn twins, and the towns folk had been in and out all day seeking her wisdom and guildance. Shippo's antics were just the icing on the cake. A little peace was in order, so Shippo was sent to the yard.
Shippo was tired by the time he got back from playing with the children, but was still full of energy on human terms. Sending him outside had however served its purpose for the time being. Or so they thought. He spent about five minutes drinking water when he got back to the hut and he was pacing again. Sango was about to get worried.
“Shippo, why are you pacing. You’ll wear a hole in Kaede’s floor if you keep that up.”
“I’m sorry Sango. I just want Kagome to get back. If that stupid Inuyasha hadn’t made her mad she wouldn’t have left. I wish I was a little taller so I could beat up that stupid Inuyasha.” The more he paced the angrier he became.
“Well you know Shippo; you have almost doubled in height since you've been traveling with us.”
“But it still isn’t enough. I’ll always be a shrimp to Inuyasha. He’s never gonna take me seriously about Kagome. My real Dad would never have talked to my Mom the way he talks to her and argues. Kagome doesn’t deserve to be treated like that. Inuyasha needs to grow up. She deserves better, and he should be the one to give it to her. Doesn't he know haw much she loves him? Why does he have to be so stupid all the time? I'm scared she'll go away forever if he doesn't realize what he has.”
“She loves you Shippo. Inuyasha, well that’s a different story altogether. We can’t get him to admit that he loves Kagome, let alone you. But he treats you like you were his own kitsune, if he could have a kitsune that is. So, don’t get too mad at him. He does the best he knows how to do. He goes after her because he loves her even if he can’t tell her the truth about how he feels. Remember, Kagome was dealing with Inuyasha before any of the rest of us ever met him. She knows what he is like, and I don’t think she could understand him any other way. She has learned to take each day in stride to the next where he's concerned.”
“I know, but my real parents didn’t act like my surrogate ones do. They would never have argued as much for one, but my dad would never make my mom cry that much either.” Shippo spat and paced. “I just don’t understand him. I just don't understand, and I guess at this point i may never understand.”
“They have what you would refer to as a love hate relationship. It is the same type of relationship that Inuyasha has with his brother. I guess it must run in the family. They just love to hate each other.” Sango had giggled a little before she caught herself.
“Do you think Inuyasha will make amends with any of them one day? Sesshomaru seems to bee just as stupid as Inuyasha, but in a different way. He has no emotions and Inuyasha had all the bad emotions. What would make them bee that way?”
“Only time will tell Shippo. He has grown at least a little in the ten years we’ve known him, but only Kagome will ever know if it’s enough to make him a little better. She gets to see parts of him that he'll never let the rest of us see.” Sango sighed.
“Well, I’m gonna go see if Inuyasha has had any luck getting Kagome from the well. He might need my wonderful love expertise to get her to forgive him this time. Maybe she’ll miss me.” Shippo gave the biggest smile Sango had see on him all day.
“Maybe that would be a good time for you to think on you way to the well.”
“Ai, I’ll be back.”
