Eclipse
What happens when an eclipse occurs between mars and the moon?
“Again class, this special eclipse hasn’t occurred since about five hundred years ago.” The bell rang, all of the students stood and bowed out their professor.
Five hundred years ago? Kagome thought about Inuyasha. Maybe I should go back tonight and watch it with him…
To avoid bankruptcy by a trip to WacDonald’s with her friends, Kagome rushed out of school and headed home.
“Kagome! Kagome! Wait!” It was none other then Hojo. Kagome stopped and turned toward him.
“Hi there Hojo!” Kagome smiled at him. He was such a nice guy, but totally the wrong type for her. Wrong for me? Since when did I have a type? Kagome sighed. Maybe ever since I met tall, silver, and grumpy.
“Kagome, I noticed you’ve been at school the past three days.”
“I couldn’t miss the finals for this semester.”
“Even so, you’re recovering, so don’t push yourself to hard. I bought you these to make your migraines go away.” Hojo handed Kagome a brown bag.
“Oh, uh, thanks…Hojo.” She looked inside.
“Anyways, follow the instructions I wrote down for you, and you’ll be feeling your best in no time!” Hojo walked away waving and smiling at Kagome.
“Let’s see what I’ve got today…” Kagome mumbled. In the brown bag there were therapeutic slippers, five different oils for rubbing on your temples, a list of foods she should avoid, a list of foods she should eat more of, and sunglasses for sensitivity to the light. Kagome sighed. “Putting up with any more of this stuff is going to give me a migraine…”
Kagome crossed the street once the light turned red and headed home. She yawned. She had done pretty well today. Monday had been the worst. She had to try to catch up to everyone else in math, and plus, it was Monday. Tuesday wasn’t so bad, she had studied all night Monday and had a pretty good understanding of the material. Today, she had taken four make up quizzes and two tests. She got three A’s, a B, and two C’s. Worst come to worst, she could always re take those two C’s.
Kagome ran up the stairs to her house. She could smell her mother’s cooking all the way out on the street. “Oh, Mom! It smells heavenly in here!.”
“Thank you dear,” her mother smiled, “as soon as you wash up it’ll be ready. I’ve got a bath ready for you upstairs.”
“Thanks Mom!” Kagome said, with a goofy grin. She stole a piece of bread and took the stairs two at a time. She headed to her room. When she opened the door, she wasn’t at all surprised to see him playing with Buyo on her bed.
“Souta? What have I told you about being in my room? Plus, you know I don’t like Buyo on my bed, he gets his fur everywhere!”
“Sorry Sis, I followed him in here and I forgot.” Souta said appolagetically.
“It’s okay, just take him to your room okay?”
“Yeah, okay.” Souta lifted Buyo into his arms. She couldn’t believe how much her little brother had changed in a month. He was taller, and he was losing his baby likeness. What if one day I come back, and I don’t even recognize him? Kagome shuddered at the thought. She grabbed her stuff for bathing and went into the bathroom.
The room smelled of sakura blossoms. Mother had used her favorite bubble bath. Kagome slipped into the hot water. This was the fourth bath she had had since she got home, but this one felt different. Kagome opened her eyes and looked around her. She was in the same medium sized bathroom she had always bathed in since she was born.
That’s not completely true. I bath at the hot springs in the Feudal Era. What’s missing? Kagome closed her eyes and tried to think. The only sound she could hear was the tripping of the tap into her bath. That’s it! Kagome didn’t hear the sound of Shippo splashing around, or the gentle rustle of leaves. She couldn’t hold a conversation with Sango, wasn’t worried about Miroku spying on them, or Inuyasha… Kagome sighed. She couldn’t even enjoy a bath these days!
She put on her pink robe and let the bath water out. Heading back to her room she could smell her mothers pot roast and heard the evening news. “An eclipse like this one hasn’t occurred for about five hundred years.” Kagome got dressed and headed down stairs. Her mother was just setting the table.
“Why Kagome, your out earlier then I thought you would be.”
“Yeah, I was starting to feel a little water logged.” Kagome’s mother just smiled at her.
“Give me a minute to cut the roast up and put out the food, then we’ll be ready to eat.” Kagome helped her mother in the kitchen.
As they all ate and enjoyed their meal, someone knocked on the door. “I’ll get it!” Souta scrambled out of his chair and headed to the door. Kagome had a vague memory come to mind. What was she supposed to do? OH! She was supposed-
“Hey Sis! Inuyasha’s-”
“You were supposed to come back this afternoon!” Inuyasha came in with a ticked off look on his face.
“-here.” Souta finished his sentence. Souta, Grandpa, and Kagome’s mother looked at one another and shared the same thought. Here they go…
“I’m sorry Inuyasha! I forgot about it until just now! I had school and was totally drained-“
“It was my fault Inuyasha. I made Kagome dinner and told her to bathe before leaving for the well. I’m sorry.” Kagome’s mother butted in.
“Feh.” Inuyasha said. He leaned against the wall. There was no way he was going to get into an argument with Kagome’s mother. Kagome looked at her mother with a look that said “thank you” but her mother simply starting slicing up the cheese cake for dessert.
“Inuyasha? Would you like to try a piece of cheesecake? It’s home made.” Kagome’s mother put a slice on a saucer and showed Inuyasha.
“What’s cheesecake?”
“It’s a really good dessert that Mom makes on special occasions!” Souta said with a forkful.
“Special occasion?” Inuyasha looked around confused. Everyone seemed to be dressed in the normal attire.
“Since Kagome is back. We haven’t seen her for a month.” Grandpa said with a smile. He took a slice and immediately began to devour it.
Kagome coming back was a special occasion? Nothing used to happen when she would come back on the weekends. That’s was the weekends…not a month…Inuyasha feeling slightly guilty looked at Kagome. She too was enjoying her mother’s cheesecake.
“Here you go,” her mother said as she handed Inuyasha a piece. Inuyasha following everyone else example used the utensils and took a bite. The cake didn’t taste one bit like cheese, and was cold!
“This is delicious!” With that, Inuyasha crammed another bite into his mouth.
