Wrong Time, Right Place
Hello again! I have decided to type another fanfiction...this time, it has to do with Kagome and Sesshomaru and Inu's father, InuTaisho *or Inu-no-Taisho*. This is a response to the challenge offered by Shadowed Death. This is for you, and I hope you like it!!!
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN INUYASHA OR ANY OF THE CHARACTERS.
WRONG TIME, RIGHT PLACE, Chapter 1
On a sunny day at the well in the Sengoku Jidai…
“Inuyasha, you don’t have to get so angry with me…I told you I’d be back in two days! I want to see my mom, Sota, Gramps, and Buyo…and I’m just going home to get some things…I need ramen, a couple of changes of clothes—”
Kagome found herself being cut off as Inuyasha muttered ‘Feh’, and walked away from her.
“Listen up, you bonehead! You always do this when I leave! But you know what? I always come back, don’t I?”
“Feh. Whatever.”
“I can’t always stay here, you know? Baka! I have a life of my own back home!”
When Inuyasha didn’t reply, Kagome sighed, and turned back around to jump into the well.
“Kagome!” A voice cried out. She whirled around to find Sango running to the well.
“Hey, Sango! What’s going on?”
“There’s a strong demonic presence coming straight for the well—Miroku and I sensed it when we were in the village…”
“KAGOME!”
“Inuyasha?”
“Don’t jump yet! There’s a demon—”
“We know, Inuyasha.”
“But…”
“What took you so long…oh…I forgot…”
It was the day of the full moon—the night that Inuyasha would turn human, and be rendered powerless until the sun rose.
Kagome concentrated for a moment, forgetting about Inuyasha’s plight, and tried to sense a jewel shard. When she could find none, she looked at Sango and shrugged.
“No jewel shards?”
“No.”
All of a sudden, Miroku came running into the clearing.
“It is coming…fast.”
“Where’s Shippo and Kirara?” Kagome asked, hoping they were safe in Kaede’s village.
“They went with Kaede—”
Before Miroku could finish, a large bear youkai came crashing through the forest, and into the clearing. It was foaming at the mouth, and blood stained what Kagome assumed were once pristine, white claws. It let out a beastly roar before charging at the small group, when they were finally spotted.
“Hiraikotsu!” Sango shouted, as she let loose the fury of the giant weapon. It hit the youkai at full speed, raining blood down on everyone, as it cut a large hole in the beast’s chest.
“Blades of Blood!” Inuyasha shouted, before attacking the creature. It howled in pain and confusion as its eyes became useless. Inuyasha had gone for something it relied on to fight. And now, unfortunately, it had become even more dangerous, stumbling around blindly.
“Oh no! Kagome…watch out!”
Just as she was notching another arrow, Kagome heard Miroku’s warning. Looking up, she noticed the blinded bear youkai running at full speed towards her—she was positioned in front of the well.
“Shit!”
Before she could move, the bear sped up, hearing her shout. The only option she had was to jump into the well—into safety. Turning from her peers, she flung herself into the hole, the blue light swallowing her before the well had a chance to be destroyed. Not knowing if she would ever have a chance to return to the Feudal Era, Kagome sobbed uncontrollably, even as she landed on the soft dirt floor of the well in her own time. After a moment or two, she finally found the strength to climb out of the ancient well, and found herself in the storage shed of her family’s shrine.
Dusting herself off, Kagome took the backpack off of her back and set it down gently on the ground. She would have to wait until the next day to find out whether or not the well had survived—her supplies had been diminished, and she needed to see her family. Kagome decided at that moment that she would not inform her family members of what had taken place. Her mother might not let her return—though she knew vaguely what Kagome faced daily, she had not known how many close calls had befallen her daughter.
“Mama, I’m home.” Kagome announced as she walked through the back door into the kitchen.
“Kagome! What are you doing back so early?”
“Well, one of my uniforms got really dirty, and this one is starting to smell funny, so I thought I’d come home, see you guys, get some more clothes and ramen…”
“Well at any rate, I’m glad you’re here. I need to tell you something—your grandfather is getting sick again—he’s got a cough—and I’m taking him to Hokkaido to see a specialist. Sota will be staying with Buyo at a friend’s house, so no one will be here. I’m glad you came home today, because I was just preparing to leave.”
“…Oh.”
“I’m terribly sorry…I know you wanted to spend time with me, honey. But we’ll be back in three days, so don’t you fret. I have three fresh uniforms for you in the laundry room, and six new packs of ramen in the pantry, so take what you want.”
“Thanks, Mama.”
“Oh, Kagome. You know you are the most important thing to me…”
“I know…”
Yuka hugged her daughter tightly, before letting go, and smiling.
“Well, we’d better get going—he’s already in the car, and I’m sure he’s becoming quite impatient—”
HONK!
The car horn resounded throughout the house, making Kagome cringe.
“That’s my cue. See you later, honey.”
“Bye, Mama.”
Yuka ran out of the house, leaving Kagome by herself.
“Well, I guess I will be going back, after all…that is…if there’s anything to go back to…”
Kagome gathered what she needed, stuffing them into her backpack, and left the house for the storage shed.
Taking a deep breath, Kagome prayed to the kami that she could return to the past…that the well wasn’t destroyed.
Jumping into the blue light, Kagome rejoiced to find that it still worked.
“YES!” She shouted, as she climbed out of the well.
But what she saw next shocked her.
The clearing. It was gone. Trees surrounded her, and there was barely any room to stand.
“What the…?”
Kagome had no idea which direction the village was in.
“Is this some kind of joke…? Where am I?” She wondered out loud.
All of a sudden, a loud scream came from somewhere around her. It echoed, and Kagome spun around to try and locate the sound.
When she couldn’t, she began to panic.
‘Something’s wrong here…this isn’t right. This isn’t the Feudal Era! Where the hell am I?!’
Before she could try and formulate an answer, she saw a white blur dart in front of her eyes. Her heart skipped a beat. It darted again, and disappeared. She turned to run in the opposite direction, but found herself standing before a tall man…a youkai…she could tell by the pointed ears.
She screamed.
“Human.” It scowled slightly.
“Please don’t hurt me! I don’t know where I am…I don’t…this isn’t right! The well wasn’t supposed…I don’t understand…”
“SILENCE!” The youkai roared.
Kagome shrank in fear.
Upon closer inspection, Kagome noticed that the youkai had markings on its face. A dark blue, crescent moon adorned his pale forehead, and on either side of his face was one strategically placed magenta stripe. It was familiar to her—and she gasped. Sesshomaru? But…
‘This doesn’t look like him. Doesn’t he have TWO stripes on either cheek?’
“State your name, human. You are in my territory, and I demand to know why.”
The youkai eyed her cautiously.
“What is it that you are wearing? Your village lets its human women run around half naked?”
“Huh?” Kagome had not been paying any attention. Her eyes had been searching his face for any sign of recognition, but had found none. She had never seen this man before in her life. But if she had to guess, he was related to Sesshomaru.
“You’re in my territory, human! State your business here!”
“Your territory…oh…uh…my name is Kagome…” She said nervously.
“Human, you have no need to fear me. I am not one of those youkai who devour your kind.”
“But…”
“Why are you here…Ka-go-me?”
“I…er…I’m lost…?” It was the truth, after all.
“Where is your village?”
“Uh…I come from very…er…far away, and…I don’t know how to get back.”
The youkai sighed.
“Very well then.”
The youkai turned to leave, and Kagome sighed in relief. He had gone quite far when he abruptly turned and glared at her.
“Are you not coming, then, human? For I do not devour humans, but there are many things in this forest that do…and a young woman such as yourself, miko or not, would never last.”
“Hey, I…wait…miko? How…did you know?”
“Your power is radiating off of you like warmth does from the sun. Now, follow me.”
Kagome hesitated, but when the youkai raised an eyebrow at her, she ran to catch up with him.
“So…what’s your name?”
“My name? What makes you think you are in any position to request that, human?”
“Uh…I’m sorry.”
“Inu-no-Taisho.”
“Huh?”
“Inu-no-Taisho. That is my name.”
“Oh.”
“You are lost. How did you come into my forest?”
“Your…?”
“I am the Lord of these lands.”
“Wait…do you…uh…know Sesshomaru? You look really familiar.”
“I have never heard of such a name. Of whom do you speak, onna?”
“You don’t know who Lord Sesshomaru is?”
“No, I do not.”
“Okay…nevermind…”
They remained silent for a moment, until they came upon Inu-no-Taisho’s fortress.
“Oh, kami…this place is beautiful!”
“So I’ve been told. It was built for me nearly two hundred years ago.”
“…wow…”
As they entered the large structure, Kagome could do nothing but stare at the elegant shoji screens that lined the walls…the carvings in the wood…and the elegantly dressed women, in kimonos of silk that walked before her.
“Who are they?”
“They are my courtesans.”
“Huh?!” Kagome did a double take.
“All of these women are my courtesans.”
“…but why?”
“I do not have to explain myself to a human.”
“Boy, that sounds familiar, alright. Are you sure you don’t know Sesshomaru?”
He glared at her.
“Sorry.”
“As well you should be. I could have killed you in the forest, but I didn’t. Because you are a miko, you could be of some use to me.”
“Huh?”
“I am in need of a miko. One of my courtesans, it seems, has been cursed by a member of my imperial court.”
“Why would someone do that?”
“I have my suspicions. Someone who is jealous, cursed Mamehiko, my best courtesan—I had recently considered mating her. However, it seems that will not be possible. Mamehiko has been examined, and is barren. She cannot bear me an heir, and therefore, I will not mate her.”
Kagome knew mating rituals—demons did not mate for love. They mated for convenience and child-bearing. If a woman was deemed barren, she would most likely never mate.
“I’m sorry.”
“Hn.” A scowl marred Inu-no-Taisho’s features, and Kagome rolled her eyes.
‘Okay, this guy has to be related to Sesshomaru…seriously. There’s just too much that he has in common to not be…!’
“Needless to say, you will be residing here, and will be a lookout for me. I wish to know who has been cursing my courtesans. This is not the first time something like this has come to be. It’s happened ten times before, and I am not pleased. I can find a fine bitch like Mamehiko very rarely, and she was of pure blood. I had an arranged marriage, but my future mate died unexpectedly, and I refused to honor any other—the courtesans do not demand my love and respect—all they need is a little attention now and then, and once they bear me an heir, I send them on their way. I don’t need a lady to rule beside me. I am Lord of this land, and it will remain this way until I deem it otherwise.”
“Lookout…you mean…you want me…to stay here and find out…what happened?”
Kagome gulped.
“I made myself perfectly clear. You will either stay, or you will die. It is your choice. I found you, and because you are a human in my territory, you belong to me. Everything on this land is mine. You would do well to learn that, onna.”
“My name is Kagome…”
“I am well aware of your name, Ka-go-me. But you have yet to earn that title from me.”
He turned to walk away from her, leaving Kagome fuming. She hated this man just as much as she did Sesshomaru! There was no arguing about it…he was definitely related.
“A servant will take you to your room and properly dress you. Those items of clothing will be burned. Your pack will be allowed to remain with you.” He shouted as he walked away from her.
‘Asshole!’ She thought as a servant came to lead her to her room.
‘I still have no idea what is going on here!’ Kagome’s mind shouted.
What had happened to the Feudal Era…her friends…Inuyasha…?
