Disclaimer: I do not Inuyasha, or YuYu Hakusho. I never have and I never will. They belong to those other people. Im too broke to buy them anyway. Nor do I own the lines "˜Abandon all hope, ye who enter here' From the famous book or poem(I don't remember which)The Inferno. Though I do own the fair well poem near the end of the chapter. That was written for my cousin Jean, who died earlier this year.

AN: please be nice to me, this is my first fic. It may suck in the beginning, but please bear with me. This story has been such a plague for the last few months its not even funny........oh well, I hope that you like it! Oh, btw, this story takes place in the year 2000, so any references to the Feudal Era will be in 1500. There, I think I got to everything.... Enjoy!

Chapter 1, Growing.

~Feudal Japan, year 1500~

It was over. It was finally over. Naraku, the vile, dastardly and sadistic hanyou was finally dead. Not even an ash remained on the ground where he once stood. A simple stalk of a tree had taken his place. Even now that it was so young, everyone could sense it flaring to life, ready to grow and grow, to never fade. To watch over the land, watching people do their every day little things. To watch as the land grew from beautiful, to drought struck, to flooded. Even as the land slowly would change around it, forests would be cut down, tall buildings, taller than the great tree itself would come.

But the tree would never, ever be cut down. Even as it stated its own life right at this moment, even as it let its roots bore into the ground, it would never be cut down. No one would ever dare to cut it down, for so much had been lost for it. On the spot the tree grows now, a beast, and a young one, were lost. Not only for those reasons would the tree grow, not only for those reasons would the tree live, it was pure. As pure as the soul that lived within its at the moment non-existent branches. As pure as the young maiden who was lost at this very spot. The maiden Kagome.

~3 hours before~

Naraku was dead. Kagome, her little sister, had been the one to take his breath from him. The nightmare was finally over, yet a new one had taken its place. Kagome had been protecting Shippou from stray youkai that deemed it worthy to attack her. She was starting to get tired. That's when Naraku decided to attack.

A miasma soaked tentacle flew at her, faster than anyone could get to it. It pierced her left lung, leaving an oozing puncture wound in her side. Shippou then gazed upon the shocked face of his surrogate mother and wanted to cry. Blood and miasma were dripping from the hole that started to get bigger as the miasma ate away at her flesh. Kagome began to gasp in pain as all of the fighters on the field seemed to be frozen.

Sango covered her mouth as to not cry out as her little sister put one foot in front of the other, slowly making her way to the vile beast that was laughing at her pain and suffering. The hole in her side was getting larger and larger, and was now big enough to fit a melon through.

Left, right, left, right. All Kagome could think about was getting her feet to move. One in front of the other, left right, left right. She stopped just short of her target, after the grueling task of walking such a distance with a gaping hole in her side. Her face was blank as she looked at her foe. Then she stepped forward, for the last time.

Naraku cackled as the woman approached him. "Stupid onna!" he mocked her as he knew she was dying. "What makes you think you can defeat me, when you yourself are defeated?" the hanyou asked. Kagome looked at the vile creature before her. She could not bring herself to feel hatred for the creature before her, the soul of a man, just wanting to be loved, was just beneath the surface. All she could feel for him was immense pity.

She smiled at the hanyou before her, and answered his question as she flung herself into his arms and began to purify him. One word was said. One word was all that needed to be said. "Destiny!" she cried.

The cry that filled the air after that, could be heard for miles, and all that heard it would never forget the pain, shock and hatred that sounded in that voice.

Not even dust fell as Naraku vanished from the earth, nothing to alert anyone in the future that traveled by this spot that the creature stood here, nothing, to alert anything. Not even the aura of menace that seemed to make the air heavy when Naraku was around stayed. No one, except a chosen few would know of the spot, the exact location where the foul being left the earth for eternity. And one of those chosen few, was dying.

Kagome started to cough and sputter as she fell to the ground, having nothing more to hold on to when her legs gave out on her. The demon army that Naraku brought with him had vanished along with the vile half-demon, it seemed that they were all connected with him to a certain level.

As if time started to move for them again, Inuyasha, Shippou, Sango, Miroku and Sesshomaru made a dash for Kagome. Each one making it to her at a different time. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, Kirara, Sango, Miroku, Shippou. Every single one of those beings, wether they were human, hanyou, or youkai, felt pain radiate of the girl as she laid on the ground, gasping to get more oxygen into her punctured lungs.

The Tensaiga, Sesshomaru's sword of healing, began to pulse blue at his side. He shifted his head towards his sword and began to unsheathe it. He was stopped when he heard a small, pain filled voice. "Don't." Kagome managed to whimper as the hole in her side became larger. Sesshomaru merely quirked an eyebrow at this as four voices asked "Why?!". "Kagome," Shippou said through tear filled eyes, "the Tensaiga can take away all of your pain, it will make you stop bleeding!" he cried.

Kagome held out her arms and he fell into them, wanting to come into her warmth that was starting to fade. "My son," she said softly "I have to go.......I have foreseen it. My soul is going to do something great in the afterlife.....I just do not know what. I will watch over you, remember, I will be born again."

Sango began to tear at Kagome's words. "But Kagome....Miroku and I, we won't be able to see you again!" she managed to choke out through her tears. Kagome looked at her best friend who had become a sister to her over the years. She and Sango had done just about every thing but child birth together.

Kagome managed to smile at all of her adopted family. Miroku, the perverted older brother she never had. Sango, the overprotective older sister. Shippou, her son whom she loved with all of her heart. Kirara, the in-shape cat. Inuyasha. What was he to her? He was so much, yet now, as she began to fade away, he was so little. He was her first real protector, the first one to put his life on the line for her. He was also her first love. It had first started out when she saw him on the Goshinboku, the God Tree. She thought that he was adorable, with his snow white hair with silver laced in it, his little sleeping face that looked like it could belong to an angel, and those triangular puppy ears she could never get enough of. Sure he would make her angry every here and there, but that was in the past. She would forgive him. She would never become Kikyo, having hatred in her soul for the one she was supposed to love.

The hole in her side steadily grew larger and larger. Kagome gasped in pain as she felt what would truly take her life. Not the fact that one of her lungs was punctured, not the gaping hole in her side. No. None of that was strong enough. What was to truly take her life was monstrous and evil. What was to take her life was the miasma that had soaked the tentacle, the miasma that was in her bloodstream.

She arched her back as the pain became more intense and she whimpered from the severe pain that intensified over her entire being. She reached her hand out as the vision from her eyes started to fade. She started to gag and cough, making droplets of blood fly through the air and land on the faces of those present. She reached out even farther with her hand and found a soft face. As her vision began to blur, she found who her hand had connected with. It was Inuyasha.

A small smile found its way to her face. She looked up with her eyes that could no longer see and smiled at him.

Inuyasha gazed into Kagome's now unseeing eyes and felt a large weight in his chest. How could he treat Kagome the he treated her? She deserved none of the harsh words he had so fondly addressed her with in the past. How could he have mistook her for Kikyo the first time he had seen her? Kikyo had a calming beauty, like a porcelain doll. It may be beautiful to look at, but it is unearthly, and unreal. And when she was brought back to life, she was cold and lifeless, now she was exactly like a porcelain doll.

Kagome, on the other hand, was full of life. She was so pure, in body and spirit. She was also very beautiful, her body, which had been one of a teenagers when he had first met her, was now filled out in all of the right places. She had full lips, unlike when he had first met her. She also had large, but not too large breasts, just the perfect size. Her hips had filled out to just the right size. And her butt, her ample butt......What more to say? How could he have thrown away this rare treasure, this beautiful woman that had practically given her life to him, given him her loyalty, devotion and love. And for what? For him to go walking off with a walking corpse. How could he have done that to her?

"Inuyasha," Kagome managed to choke out, still looking forward with her unseeing eyes, "I........"

"Kagome," Inuyasha blurted, gazing at her with eyes that were red with tears, "tell me, please! What do you mean?" he pleaded her.

Kagome coughed again, flecks of blood flew through the air and clung to Inuyasha's hair and face. She gasped in the pain that was starting to envelope her being. She writhed as spasms of pain shot through her body as the Miasma took its course.

"Inuyasha," she said through ought the convulsions, "I.....I forgive.........y...o..u........"

Silence, not even a bird chirped as Kagome grew cold, not a whisper from the wind. The earth was silent, it was as if all time had stopped. Inuyasha held onto the lifeless and cold body of the woman he loved and had tossed away on a whim. The decision would haunt him for the rest of his days.

~3 hours after~

A small tree stalk swayed in the wind as time seemed to move again. At the base, a grave was freshly dug, the soil still high from not having time to settle. A stone was erected at the head of the grave, to mark the place of a great Miko.

"˜Never again to see this land,
Never again to see fate at hand.
Never again to walk away,
Never again to laugh that way.

To see something so sweet end,
Is to watch your soul twist and bend.
To see a woman hurt in that way,
Is like never seeing the rise of the day.

The pain is deep, the anguish long,
Like the mournful cry of the Dove's song.
The hurt is true, the hurt is deep,
To put this woman to eternal sleep.

But Dawn rises each day,
And all of us have much to say.

Never again to see this land,
Never again to see fate at hand.
Never again to walk away,
Never again to laugh that way.'

That was the poem that was carved upon the grave that until the end of time would stay by the tree that would grow and grow. At the bottom of the grave stone, a simple fair well was written to the woman that had meant so much to so many, whom none where going to see ever again.

"˜Fair well, may none forget your greatness.' was etched into the stone.
