The arrow whizzed through the air and landed straight on target. There was no chance for anybody else at all….

A chorus of clapping and cheers echoed in the background. Someone gave her a pat on the back.

"Well Done, Kagome, it's another bull's eye again"

A girl with raven colored hair turns and smiles at her friend.

" I was just lucky…and inspired… by Legolas"

Kagome replied cheekily as she thought of her ideal Prince Charming from LOTR. So enticed was she by the character that she has took up archery after watching the movie. As it turns out, Kagome truly has a gift for archery and excel in the sports within a space of one month.

"Great, Higurashi, you will be representing the school in the Annual Archery Inter School Competition next month " interrupted the instructor

" Oh great… now I have to represent the school… darn.." Kagome thought silently to herself.

What started out as a pure amateur interest has now become a competition. Not that she mind challenges. In fact the strong willed girl have never back down from any challenges and always push herself towards the targets she set. And she has always been able to perform until recently.

Kagome has been having difficulty sleeping at night since her 15th birthday two weeks ago. Without fail every night, she would have the same dream.

"Must be examination and competition pressure.." Kagome thought to herself.

The archery practice soon ended and Kagome was on her way home.

Home was a shrine for the Higurashis. Kagome's father has passed away when she was a toddler. Since then, Kagome and her mother and little brother Sota has moved to live with her Grandpa who is a caretaker at the local shrine. The local shrine has significance to the local county. It was also home to the Sacred Tree, which has been there since as long as anyone in the town can remember. Legend has it that the tree was at least 500 years old and possesses special powers. There was an indent on the tree trunk and the locals believe that touching the indent would bring about luck and good fortune.

A cool breeze welcomes her as Kagome passes by the Sacred Tree.

"There is something different about the Tree today, but I can’t quite put it…. Hmm.. must be my imagination again" She continued on her journey home.

Behind her, a faint ray of white light was gathering near the indent.

Back Home

" … and that's why I have to enter the archery contest nest month. Gosh, it's going to be busy period with all that exams and competition" Kagome was relating the day's event to her family over dinner.

" Oh, Kagome I am so proud of you, but really… archery to us, the family of Higurashis, is not too much of an effort at all. The females in our family have been accomplished archers many generations ago, as they go about performing their duties as miko. It comes as no surprise to me that you are able to hit bull eyes easily.." Grandpa interrupted.

"Why would miko need to be good in archery, Grandpa?"

"Well.. That's because evil demons used to roam in the lands of feudal Japan many years ago. Mikos have to rely on using their purity arrows to destroy these demons, Sota…" Grandpa explained.

"So sis must be a miko then.." Souta answered nervously at the thought of his sister "purifying" him with an arrow should he misbehave.

At this thought, the family erupted into giggles and laughs over dinner.

Later in the Night

"Finally, I can get to bed after a long day."

Kagome happily tuck herself to sleep at night. It was not long thereafter sleep claim her.


Dream sequence

Kagome saw a person that resembles herself. She was struggling to move towards something. Kagome can feel her pain, the person was bleeding profusely from a wound on her right arm. Suddenly, she took aim with her arrow. With all her remaining strength, she released her arrow….

"Kikyo !!!"


Kagome bolted upright from her bed. It 's the same dream again.

"Kikyo… " That's was what she vividly remembered after every dream. This time round, Kagome saw something else, a pair of golden eyes

A ray of white light penetrated into the room suddenly. Using her hands as an eye shield, Kagome look out and saw the white light was coming from the Sacred Tree. Without thinking, Kagome dashed out of the house towards the Tree.

Within minutes she was standing in front of the Tree. Rays from the Tree was shining directly at the shed near the Tree. Kagome knew that there was an enclosed well within the shed. She opened the door and went in. The enclosed well seems to be beckoning her with an unseen force. Before Kagome could stop herself, she has fallen into the well.


"Ahhh…..!!!!!!!" Kagome screamed as she fell through the well.

Before she knew it, she has landed on her butt. Kagome looked up and saw that it was already daylight outside the well.

"Strange," she thought to herself and tried to make her way out. With much difficulty, she managed to climb out of the well with the aid of the vines that grows alongside the walls of the well. Reaching the top, she mustered her strength and hauls herself out and landed on the grassy patch.

Tired, she surveyed her surroundings. It resembles nothing like her Tokyo home.

"Where am I am? What is this place? " A thousand thoughts spun inside Kagome's head.
Overwhelmed by tiredness and confusion, her mind became a blur. Darkness clouded her vision. Just before she passes out, she heard someone calling out.

"Kikyo?? "
