Chapter One

Kagome Higurashi stood staring at the remains of the now shattered well. The debree echoed the scattered pieces of her heart and soul. Never again would she put others before herself. No more tears, no more weakness. Her hand went to the jewel now resting in her side, dormant in it's state. It would no longer use her, she wouldn't allow it. She had done her duty, now she was free. Free to live her life any way she chose.

Her quest had ended, her hopes had ended. That part of her life was gone, so was the naive little girl that had first went through the well. She had been a fool to think she'd have her happy ending. Dreams were for the ignorant and lost. She was neither nor would be again.

It hadn't ended the way it was suppose to, all wrong. They had failed and she was lucky to be alive. She would have been better off dead, dead with her friends. Dead will all the ones she had come to love. They had been taken from her and she'd been too weak to stop it. Too pathetic to stop Naraku from destroying her family.

The final battle had been horrifying, Naraku had gained the final shard from her. With it he had completed the jewel and became unstoppable. One by one she'd watched her friends fall in battle. Miroku had been the first to fall in battle. Images of him pushing Sango out the way making it possible for Naraku to send a tenacle deep in his chest. The sound of fleshing tearing was heard as blood shot out the houshi's mouth. His final word of his life had been the name of the taijiya that he had come to love. Sango filled with rage at seeing her intended die prompted her to act rash. She'd gone straight for the beast even as Kagome had pleaded with her. With a vicious swing of a tenacle the girl's head had been torn from her neck to land next to the houshi's body.

Inuyasha was trying to pick himself off the ground, the Tetsusgia laying several feet away. Kagome saw the transformation come over him. Fear for his life and seeing the death of his friends caused the blood inside him to rage. Kagome ran for the fang, grabbing it in her open palm. A harsh cry filled the air as Naraku held Inuyasha up by the throat, the hanyou's claws tearing at the flesh. Naraku's voice rang true sealing everyone's fate, "My one wish is to become a full youkai of the greatest power."

Kagome screamed in horror as a hand was shoved through her first love's chest. Blood dripping off the cruel fingers as laughter filled the air. Many voices filled the air as the jewel imbedded in Naraku's chest began to glow. Suddenly Kagome felt weird and everything began to grow hazy until it was finally black.

She'd woken up in her era with minor wounds from the battle alone. Her family had come to greet her. For months she'd done nothing but cry knowing everyone was dead. Naraku had won and she was lost. Weeks after returning she'd noticed that nothing had changed in her time. Why hadn't it changed? Shouldn't Naraku winning changed her future, her era. One day she'd woken up and accepted the truth. Naraku had always won, everytime she had gone back she was fulfilling her destiny. The destiny that made her world what it was.

Life seemed bleak and hollow now but soon she would find her place once more. Soon her life would have a new purpose, very soon.

"Father, please don't leave me. I don't want to be alone." The girl lowered her head placing it along the man's chest listening to the shallow breathing. The sickness would soon end his life, bringing her world crashing down on her. It wasn't fair, he was all she had in this world.

His hand came up to be placed gently on her head, a tear sliding down his cheek. "You are not alone. Listen to me, there is something you should know." He let his thoughts return, return to the past he tried to forget. His heart broke as it all came back to him. "Before I met your mother, there was another in my life. I cared for your mother deeply but she was not the one for me. I had a love that was forbidden, she was a koorime. She meant everything to me, she soon became my mate. Soon she was expecting a child, our child. I left, planning on returning to her before she gave birth. On my way back to their city I was attacked, severely wounded. After I gained my strength, I returned for them." Several tears slipped down his face and his voice cracked. "I went there demanding them my family. Only to find out that they had killed my son and my mate had killed herself from the loss of our child. But there had been twins, a baby girl had also been born. I demanded that they had over my child, they denied me. The elders took my family from me, they kept my only surviving child. You have a sister, find her. Find her and take my revenge, avenge your mother and brother's death for me."

His hand dropped and she buried her head as the sobs racked her body. She made a vow as he took his last breath, "I will. I will fulfill your dying wish."
