hanyou family

Kagome raised her longbow slowly, slinging an arrow to the notch worn in by hundreds, maybe thousands like it, and aiming at the rustling bushes. She ran her thumb caressingly down the handle of the bow, feeling the polished wood, smooth and familiar in her grip. Feeling more nervous than usual for just a simple snake demon, she was keeping her distance from the brush where it had slithered off too.
‘Where is Inuyasha?’ she thought, tightening her grip on the bow. One of her sacred arrows could seriously injure the demon but she didn’t know if that would be enough to finish it off.
Two red glowing eyes peered from the underbrush, shifting only slightly when she took a step back. The flickering red tongue soon emerged, smelling out her fear. Finally the reptilian head rose up out of the bushes and swayed, eyes locked on her.
“I-Inu-Inuyasha!” Kagome yelled and loosed an arrow, missing the demon by centimeters as it dodged away. She took several hurried steps backward as the demon advanced at a leisurely speed.
Dusk was falling quickly and it made the cherry blossoms strewn around outside the temple look blood red in the light. What had been Kagome’s home for years looked as though it was going to be her grave too. The demon aura that trailed the group of Kagome, Inuyasha, Sango and Miroku because of the Shikon No Tama jewel and the combined anger of the thousands of demons they had slain over the years made an irresistible target for any nearby demons.
A world of demons and yet they were the things that she kept closest to her. The irony was not completely lost on Kagome, but the she hunted demons were soulless creatures, whereas Inuyasha, Yuhi and Kaori were sweet and very in touch with their human sides. It was why she loved them, not the only reason of course but the main one.
The snake demon lunged again, this time shoving her off balance with its massive body. The scales scraped some of the skin from her arm as she passed, making her lose her grip on the bow she held. The weapon clattered uselessly out of her reach. The huge beast leaned closer to her, tongue flitting in and out, almost touching her cheek but stopping short enough for her to smell the rancid breath and venomous fangs.
“MOOOOOOOM!! KAORI’S ON THE ROOF AGAIN!!!” a young man’s voice rang out above the sound of crunching leaves and twigs from the snake’s huge body.
“Nim…fa…ru?” Kagome squeaked.
“MOTHER! What are you DOING??” a tall, beautiful, half naked boy with long blue black hair strode down the temple steps. “For god’s sake tell us when there’s a breach in the barrier! It’s not safe to check it out on your own.” His ears twitched slightly and his eyes flashed gold in irritation. “backslash.” He murmured as an almost afterthought and ripped the demon clean in two long wise and shook out his hand clean while the body disintegrated.
“Well no one else was securing the perimeter!” Kagome pouted, pointing accusingly at him. “Where is your damnable father anyway?”
“Getting dinner. Like you told him too.” Nimfaru placed his hands on his hips and glared at her. “It’s Kaori’s turn to walk the barrier tonight, what are you doing out here?” he picked her up and put her on her feet.
“well… well… she’s blind!” Kagome supplied weakly.
“I see in heat and spiritual energy mother, which means I see better at night anyway. Thanks for remembering.” A petite silver haired young woman stalked over to the two of them and glared up at Kagome. Her pure lilac irises reflected the moonlight weirdly and gave her a demonic look that contributed to rather than took away from her sharp feminine features.
“I know dear but… well you’re my baby.” Kagome ruffled Kaori’s soft bangs and smiled at the tiny but indignant hanyou.
“I’m a few minutes younger than Nimfaru! But we’re both 20 human years old, full grown by your standards.” She turned her small straight nose straight into the air and sniffed slightly. “Did someone kill a snake recently?”
