InuYasha woke when he heard Kagome struggling in her sleep. ‘I wish I could see what she is dreaming about, she always seems to have bad dreams. I want for her to stop having such bad dreams.’ With that inside statement a thought struck him. After the previous battle with one dream demon that had a Shikon jewel shard he realized he can get into Kagome’s dream if he too used one. However, he would not imbed it within himself; he’ll just borrow its power.
He knelt quietly beside Kagome and found the container that she used to house the loose shards they’ve collected. He took one out and held it in his hands. He closed his eyes and concentrated. A baby blue aura circled around him and soon he found himself within her dream.
“InuYasha belongs to me-you are interfering Kagome. You’re my reincarnation, nothing is better than the original!”
Kagome had her hands busy trying to pry Kikyo’s hands off from her throat.
“I may be your reincarnation, but I am nothing like you…what do you have to offer InuYasha? Death? That is not a life for him. If you truly loved him you would let him be free!”
With that, Kikyo tightened her hold on Kagome.
“Die!”
“You would want that…your scared that I’ve won his heart…I’ll fight for him Kikyo…he will live if my life depends on it!”
Kagome used a surge of her spiritual powers to distance herself from Kikyo and her hold. In shock Kikyo shrank back. Kagome had this weird smile of triumph on her face. InuYasha has never seen her with such a satisfied smirk. Kagome pulled her arrow on the bow and sent it toward Kikyo’s heart.
“Rest in peace bitch!”
The arrow flew across the air and hit Kikyo causing her to disperse into millions of particles of dust. Kagome turned around and saw InuYasha watching her in wild bemusement. ‘Do they hate each other that much?’ InuYasha thought.
“InuYasha?”
He jumped for a moment with shock ‘she could see me.’ Kagome walked up to him as the scenery around them changed. This time they were in a room with a large dojo screen. It was very calm and steamy? InuYasha looked around the room and noticed it was a bathing pool with heated water. He looked at Kagome again and noticed that she had removed her clothes and was reaching out to remove his too.
“Embrace me InuYasha; please… You don’t have to worry about Kikyo any longer. You can still avenge her death, but I’ll take care of you now. Will you let me InuYasha?”
Her eyes bore into his and he knew he was blushing. She curled up into his chest that she set free from his upper garment. He felt her warm breast against his chest. She started combing through his long raven locks with her fingers and looked up at him. She tiptoed up toward his face and began to kiss him. It was whisper soft and sweet, timid yet passionate. In her dream he kissed her back. They kissed deep and long til they were both breathless.
“I must be dreaming…I would never…be so…brave like this with you…”
She said between kisses. All of a sudden he was pulled out of her dream and back into the night sky that was over head of him. He shook as he looked at her sleeping form on the mat. A growing buildup of passion swelling in his stomach. He had feelings like that for one other person a long time ago, but they were never as strong. He looked at Kagome again and smiled devilishly.
“InuYasha…I love you.”
She breathed out in her sleep. InuYasha’s smile broadened.
“InuYasha, what are you doing using that shard? You know it is dangerous to any one but Kagome to use them.”
Miroku looked up from his sleeping position. He sat up and looked at InuYasha placing his staff across his lap. InuYasha put the shard back in the container and back toward the bottom of Kagome’s bag.
“It’s none of your business monk, and I wasn’t doing anything bad with the jewel.”
“If you don’t tell me I’ll tell Kagome when she wakes up.”
Miroku said with a playful smile in his voice. InuYasha ran in front of Miroku.
“No, don’t say anything to her, she’ll get mad and give the damn sit command on me. We’ll argue and then she’s going home. We are so close to getting the last of the jewel shards.”
“Than tell me what were you doing with the shard?”
He asked again this time with an evil playful smile in his tone.
“Damn you monk, I thought you weren’t supposed to use blackmail on people.”
“Humn, you already know I am not your typical monk…well?”
His eyes got all kinds of shifty. InuYasha almost laughed out loud.
“I used it to see what Kagome dreamed about. She is always having a bad dream to start the night with.”
“Did she?”
“That monk is none of your business.”
“Well, it was none of yours.”
InuYasha looked down for a moment than back up to Miroku.
“Yes it is my business, I protect Kagome, she’s…”
InuYasha sighed, what would the monk understand about his feelings. He didn’t understand his feelings half the time. He knew that everyone else believed he was possessive over Kagome. No other man was to look at Kagome in an appreciative way as in trying to make her their woman. That was one of the reasons he didn’t like that flea bag wolf. Sometimes he got annoyed with Shippo because Kagome always snuggled him. And with Miroku, he had to have a nice chat with him about feeling Kagome up. But did he love Kagome. He must, how many times did he risk death just to save her. Another thing, she always seemed to get out of him what she wanted. She seemed to have that way about her. She made him feel…happy.
They sat there quietly for a while in their own thoughts before InuYasha broke the silence.
“Miroku, do you love Sango?”
The monk nearly chocked on his saliva before regaining his monk like composure.
“What?”
“Do you love Sango?”
“I suppose I care for her very deeply, I respect her.”
InuYasha pressed forward. He knew that the monk wasn’t being honest with him.
“Supposed you learned that Sango loved you, would you reciprocate the feelings?”
Miroku thought about that very question all the time, every time Sango looked at him with her deep brown eyes with such passion and whenever they talked quietly together. All he wanted to do was soothe her pain and make her feel safe and free within his arms. He would hold her there forever if he could. But then…
“No.”
“No! Why not? If she loves you than why wouldn’t you place your scent on her and make her yours. Why not make her your life mate?”
“InuYasha, I would like nothing more than to put my scent on her as you put it. I would love to get her with child and see them together sitting by a warm fire. Her gently suckling my son to her bosom giving him the nourishment he needs. I dream of her holding me in her soft embrace so that I can closely inhale the soft scent of lavender in her hair but…”
Miroku fingered the rosary on his right hand.
“If I took advantage of my feelings, I would only leave her a widowed mother. I care for Sango too much too deeply to put her through any such despondency. I would mate with any other woman but Sango. Their woe I would not see or have on my conscience. Their unhappiness would not amount to the grief I would leave with Sango.”
InuYasha nodded his head. He understood the monks’ point of view. That is almost how he felt for Kagome. He doesn’t know what is going to happen in the end of their journey. He knew that at all cost he needed to protect Kagome. He felt sorry for the monk, because unlike him, he can’t send Sango away from danger and seal her in her own time. Than InuYasha was brought back out of his solitary thoughts.
“If I didn’t have this accursed wind tunnel in my hand I would love to be with Sango til the end of my days. It seems the more I fall in love with Sango, the more I can’t seem to mate with other women. For example, a couple of months back, the last pretty maiden I tried to induce into my bed I wound up leaving her at her door. When I went to kiss her all I saw was Sango’s sad eyes looking at me and I felt dirty. Now, I tend to flirt with other women now just to make Sango distance herself from me. She wouldn’t love a lecher. I guess if I die before this hand is free from its curse, then the curse will end with me.”
InuYasha widened his eyes to Miroku’s revelation.
“You…”
“Yes, the way you feel for Kagome that is how I feel for Sango. I love her. However, she must never know how much I love her.”
They looked at each other their friendship stronger since they both share a similar bind. They both thought the same things. What if there was a way to get what they want without the guilt if things didn’t work out the way they planned.
“Dawn is approaching we must get the girls and Shippo up.”
Miroku nodded in agreement, he knew that now that the sun was rising InuYasha was about to be transformed back into his dog demon form.
