A Love More Than Love
Ch 1
A thirteen year old boy and girl stood on the sidewalk in front of an empty house and held each other’s hands for what they thought was the last time. Tears flowed in thin streams down her face and he was doing his best to keep his in check. Reality of the situation personified itself through the loud diesel humming of the moving truck behind them.
“I have to go now,” he whispered. She let out a sob and squeezed his hands tighter.
“I’ll never see you again,” she and looked up into his eyes and he gave a small smile.
“That’s not true. I’ll write you and when I’m able, I’ll drive down and visit you.” She shook her head.
“No, you’ll leave and forget all about me.”
“Never. Kikyou, you’ve been my best friend my entire life. You’ll always be in my heart. I just hope I’ll stay in yours.”
“Always Inuyasha.” She gave him a smile that came straight from her heart.
“We need to get going son,” Inuyasha’s father, Taishou, leaned out the window of the moving truck. He nodded to his father and looked back to Kikyou. He hugged her tightly and she wept aloud on his shoulder. He stroked her hair and softly shushed her. He let her go but she held fast to him. He pealed her arms off from around his shoulders and stepped back incase she tried to hold him again. He didn’t trust himself to have enough strength to hold her off again. Kikyou wrapped her arms around herself to retain the warmth that Inuyasha’s arms had provided. Not being able to find his voice behind the sob that welled up in his throat, Inuyasha turned and quickly boarded the truck. He gave a small wave, and his father shifted the truck into gear. The grinding of the gears tore at both of the teen’s hearts. Kikyou used all the strength left in her heartbroken self to keep from running after the truck as it turned the street and disappeared forever. Kikyou hoped against all hopes that Inuyasha would keep to his word and keep her as a part of his life. She knew he would always be a part of hers. She stared at the empty street, unable to make herself move.
“Please don’t be so sad Kikyou,” a strong hand came upon her shoulder and made her gasp. She didn’t need to turn around to know who the deep monotone voice belonged to.
“You still have me Kikyou, and I will always take care of you.” She gave a slight smile at Naraku’s comment. He had always tried to be kind to her but his rough demeanor had turned her favor from him to Inuyasha. Her heart clenched again at the thought of him and new tears ran from hers eyes. The hand on her should pulled her into a stiff embrace, that in its own way, gave Kikyou the comfort she so needed.
“Don’t cry.” It was more of a command than a comfort. “I won’t leave you. Ever.”
