Depend in the Morning Sun
Kagome stood rooted to the spot. A majestic creature like no other sttod before her, blocking her only chance of escape. She had been on her way to the well, back to Inuyasha and the others, when this unearthly being stopped her. The night was nearly over and the stars glowed down upon them, shinning with the light of the gods, the heavens were truly beautiful tonight. The grass was the purest green, and the flowers smelled of jasmine and honey.
All of these things went unnoticed by the trembling girl.
Her first instinct had been to run away from the hungry eyes of the creature before her, yet even as she knew this, she could not get her legs to move.
The color drained from her pearly cheeks, leaving behind only fear-filled eyes.
The creature smilled, showing off fangs as sharp as a demons claws. Kagome gasped in fear and stepped back. Before her stood a vampire. But that just wasn't possible. She'd been to the Past on many occasions, but never had she heard that vampires truly existed. She thought they were only myths.

D had scented the girl nights ago, on a paticularly grusome demon kill. He had been starved, dying to feed on some innocent human when her scent had drifted in on the warm breeze.
He remembered it well.
His insticts had kicked in, demanding fullfillment. He had fought it, but the urge had won in the end and he had followed the girl home from school the following day. Imagine his surprise when he discovered the girl could time travel.
He had marveled at her skill, all the more determined to kill this innocent.
When she returned not a week later for a test of some sort, he had been ready. And now here she stood, like the angel she was, just waiting to be taken. e had not as yet decided whether to fuck the girl and then kill her, or if he just wanted her succulent blood.
The fear in her eyes grew to terror as he flashed fangs. She stepped back slowly, as though afraid to believe her own eyes.
The scent of cheerys reached his nose just as she urned and fled. He grinned manically and followed after her, grateful that in her fear she took the back roads.
This would b eas easy kill.

Kagome trembled violently as she ran, fearful that she would never live to see her Inuyasha, or even the blood thirsty Sesshoumaru again.
She ran until her legs would carry her no more, and still she pushed herself to run. In the back of her mind, she knew that the vampire could easily catch her, but fear overrode reason. She continued, frantically wishing that any god would give her mercy.
She turned a corner and stopped to catch her breath. She knew the act could be fatal, but breathing was important now.
Carfully, the girl looked behind her. Relief flooded her when she didn't see him. Perhaps by the stroke of luck she had lost him?
Kagome took in her surroundings, grateful that the sun was just about to rise. No vampire was about during the day. It was a law or something.
***
D watched from the rooftop above her, letting his prey believe she was safe.
He grinned when she took in the rising sun. Did she really believe that he would let her live that long? True, when the sun rose he would have to flee, but she wouldn't live to see it happen.
He crawled down the side of the building, landing gracfully behind her. Black hair tossed and gleamed in the moonlight as turned, newfound fear carressing her beautiful face.
D reached out, letting his fingers trail through her silken hair. She shuddered, turned and ran. He let her go. The chase was so much fnner this way.

Kagome ran with renewed energy, praying that she could outrun him until the sun rose. She promised herself she would never be alone again. She'd spend all day and all night with Inuyasha... If he'd let her.
Kagome heard his steady breaths behind her, and knew she wasn't going to get the luck she needed. Time was running out for both of them, but only time would tell who lived to see tommorow.
Kagome stumbled and fell, quickly scrambling to her aching feet, willing her legs to carry her just a little further.
When she was allowed to get up and continue on, Kagome knew that he wayingying with her. Enjoying the chase. Tears poured down her cheeks, blinding her vision. Trees scrapped her face and weeds slapped her legs until they were raw, but still she ran on.
The alarm on her watch went off.
The sun was rising now. She had won!
Reliefe caused her limbs to stop. She collapsed, not knowing until it was to late that he was right behind her.
"But... the sun... you can't!" She panted heavily, her fear and exahustion taking all the breath from her.
D grinned down at the trembling girl, reveling in her fear. She gasped when he knelt beside her, pulling her into a painful embrace. "My dear, beloved Kagome, there is a precious few more minutes before the sun will drive me away."
Kagome tried to scream but her voice was frozen in panic.
Teeth grazed her throat, and Kagome had a minute to struggle before fangs sank deep.
The blood was more intoxicating than he had expected. He drank up her fear as well as her blood, and the mix was a heady one. Metalic honey filled his needs completely, and it wasn't long before the girl was a limp, lifeless puddle in his arms. Even still he drank, savoring the flavor until there was nothing left.
The sparkle in her eyes died, and with it the light of the moon. The earth trembled and the stars winked from existance. The rising sun become a pit of blackness. WIth one last, gasping breath from the corpse, the power of the Shikon fell into Naraku's hands...

"I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun..."

The song lyrics at the end are: True Faith by New Order, preformed by Jonathan Harel, possibly written by him, too...
But I couldn't help it! Those lyrics fit SO well with my carefully thought out work of art!
(You know, the story?)
