Chapter 1: The Final Battle
A/N: This story idea just came to me and I had to write it down before I forgot about it! I still don’t own Inuyasha, but I like to borrow him and the others for my stories! Hope you enjoy!
The group oavelavelers stood hands hovering over their weapons as they prepared for what would most likely be their final battle together. Inuyasha clutched the hilt of Tetseiga ready to unsheathe it at a moment’s notice. Beside him his older half brother Sesshomaru stood already wielding his sword Tokijin. Sango stood holding her Hiraikotsu over her right shoulder waiting for someone to make the first move. On her right Miroku held his staff in his left hand and clenched his cursed right hand y toy to unleash the power of his wind tunnel if it was needed. Kagome stood just behind Inuyasha and Sesshomaru with an arrow notched in her bow ready to let it fly.
Naraku stood before them with a malicious grin upon his eerily handsome face. He had pushed back the hood of his white fur baboon cloak so that his face was visible. His crimson orbs swept over the mismatched band of allies that stood before him. There was the demon hunter, the monk, the girl that was Kikyo’s reincarnated soul, the lord of the Western lands and lastly his bastard half breed brother Inuyasha. Naraku scowled to himself as his blood red eyes fell upon Inuyasha. How he hated that hanyou because he had known Kikyo’s love. Yes, that was the reason that he, Naraku came to exist. Because of his evil tainted human soul Oni Gumo, he had made an alliance with the souls of demons and was transformed into the half demon that stood before the group of allies now.
Kikyo’s reincarnn, Kn, Kagome yes that was her name, suddenly found the courage to speak. Her normally soft and gentle voice rang out through the warm still air. “It’s over Naraku!” Naraku chuckled at her threat and glared right at her.
“Oh no little miko, it’s just begun.” Kagome pushed her way in between Sesshomaru and Inuyasha tve ave a clear shot at Naraku. She pulled the arrow back tautly and let it fly towards him. All eyes were frozen on the arrow that was now encased in a light pink aura as it soared towards Naraku. The arrow hit him in the shoulder making a loud crackling sound when it made contact. Naraku hissed in pain and then shot a burst of dark blackish purple miasma towards Kagome. “I killed you fifty years ago Kikyo and I shall send you to Hell again!” Just before the burst of toxic miasma hitome ome Inuyasha tackled her to the ground and then shielded her with his body.
Kagome pushed herself out of Inuyasha’s embrace and glared up at Naraku her blue gray eyes sing ing daggers at the half demon. “I’m not Kikyo! My name is Kagome!” Inuyasha smirked at Kagomannoannoyance at being called Kikyo and then helped her to her feet once more.
“It makes no difference what your name is miko, you are Kikyo’s soul reincarnated and I shall send you back to Hell where you belong!” Kagome gritted her teeth as she drew another arrow from the satchel on her back. Sesshomaru took the opportunity to run at Naraku using his demonic speed. Naraku jumped out of the way just as Sesshomaru swiped at him with Tokijin. Sango took the initiative and hurled her Hiraikotsu towards Naraku’s back. Sensing the attack he side stepped it quickly. Miroku unleashed his wind tunnel and tried to draw Naraku in. Naraku had anticipated this and summoned a large swarm of his poison insects. The young monk could not close off his wind tunnel before sucking in a substantial amount of the poison insects.
Sango rushed over to Miroku’s side her face etched in concern over him. “Oh Miroku! Are you alright?” She hit her knees roughly beside the mand and cradled his head in her lap not caring that she almost always avoided being placed in those situations with the lecherous man. “Miroku, please say something? Don’t die please, don’t die!” Miroku’s violet eyes fluttered open and he raised his left hand to cup Sango’s cheek.
“Don’t worry Sango, I couldn’t die just yet. I haven’t done everything I wanted to.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I haven’t asked you to marry me Sango.” Her brown eyes grew wide as she stared down at the monk in shock. “Well Sango, will you marry me?” Tears began to cloud her vision as she looked down at the man that she had secretly been in love with for quite some time now.
“Yes Miroku, I will marry you!” Miroku leaned up as best he could and pulled Sango down so that he could kiss her. Kagome notched another arrow and was about to aim for Naraku’s head when she felt a huge pulse sweep through her body. Inuyasha noticed Kagome’s hesitance and rushed to her side.
“Kagome, what’s wrong?”
“I sense a great power coming from Naraku!”
“Yeah Kagome, it’s all the jewel fragments he has. What does that have to do with the weird way you’re acting?”
“No Inuyasha, this power isn’t from jewel fragments, it’s a miko’s power!”
“What? Whiko iko Kagome?”
“I…I don’t know!”
“Where is the power source coming from? Can you see it?” Kagome focused on Naraku’s body and her eyes widened when they fell on a blood red stone encased in a gold talisman hanging from Naraku’s neck.
“There! The talisman on his neck!” Inuyasha was pushed aside as Kagome notched another arrow and pulled it back as far as it would allow. She let the arrow fly and watched as the familiar pink aura surrounded it. Naraku was busy trying to stave off Sesshomaru’s relentless attacks to even notice Kagome’s arrow soaring towards him. The sacred arrow hit the blood red stone shattering it into a million tiny fragments that were scattered on the ground at Naraku’s feet. Naraku screamed out angrily as small sphere of white light seemed to escape the now shattered stone. The sphere of almost blinding white light floated away from Naraku and came to land on the ground gently a few feet away from Inuyasha. Kagome and Inuyasha ran to see what had escaped Naraku’s talisman.
Inuyasha knelt down beside what appeared to be the unconscious body of a young woman. “Kagome, it’s a woman.” Kagome nodded as she knelt down beside Inuyasha. “Who is she?”
“I don’t know, but Naraku was holding her prisoner that much is obvious.” The woman had long thick pitch black hair that fell to her waist and she was dressed in older traditional miko clothing. Her white shirt was decorated with an embroidered black cross that was entwined with a pale blue crescent moon and her pants were a dark blue color. At her waist was a dagger encased in a black scabbard with the same black cross and pale blue crescent moon marking on it. “Look Inuyasha, look at the marking on her shirt, it has the same crescent moon as Sesshomaru does! What do you think that means?”
Inuyasha shrugged as he glanced over his shoulder to see that Kouga and his pack of wolf warriors had arrived to help fight Naraku. “You’re guess is as good as mine Kagome, but right now we need to worry about killing Naraku.” Kagome nodded and called out to Sango. The demon huntress came running over to Kagome’s side with Miroku leaning on her for support.
“What is it Kagome?”
“Sango, can you keep this priestess safe while you watch Miroku? I don’t know who she is but Naraku has been holding hersonesoner.”
“Of course Kagome, I’ll keep her safe.” Kagome stood and ran back to the battle. She watched as Inuyasha and Sesshomaru double teamed Naraku. Notching another arrow she prepared to hit Naraku in his black malice filled heart. Kouga ran up by her side to greet her.
“Hey Kagome, are you alright? You haven’t been hurt have you?”
“No Kouga, but I need you to step back so that I can kill Naraku.” Kouga smiled broadly at her.
“You know if I hadn’t kept my word and mated Ayame, you would be the perfect w for for me.”
“Yes, but you did mate with Ayame and I’m in love with Inuyasha.” Kouga nodded and watched as Kagome let her arrow fly straight for Naraku’s heart. His blue eyes widened when the arrow sank deep into Naraku’s heart causing the evil half demon to freeze in shock. Kagome watched as Naraku turned to face her his blood red eyes flashing with anger. He gave a loud feral roar as he dropped to his knees. Naraku’s body began to crumble as the sacred arrow began to purify his tainted soul. Inuyasha used Tetseiga and used his backlash attto fto finish off Naraku.
A blinding white light engulfed Naraku and his body was quickly destroyed leaving only the other half of the Shikon jewel laying on the ground in his departure. Kagome jogged over to where Inuyasha had bent down to pick up the jewel. He handed the piece of the jewel to Kagome and it was instantly purified the moment it touched her hand. Kagome fused the jewel back together and placed it in Inuyasha’s hands. “Here, I told you I would give you the jewel when it was completed. Now you can make your wish to become a full fledged demon.”
Inuyasha took the Shikon jewel from Kagome and stared back at her with wide amber eyes. “Kagome I….thank you.” She smiled and let her bow and satchel of arrows fall to the ground. Inuyasha sheathed Tetseiga and then pulled Kagome into an awkward embrace. Sesshomaru watched the display of emotion with a look of disgust etched onto his handsome face. “Kagome, I don’t want the jewel.”
“But Inuyasha, I thought you wanted to become a full fledged demon?”
“I did, but that was before I fell in love with you.” Her cheeks became hot with the blush that tinted them.
“Oh Inuyasha, I love you too!”
“Kagome I don’t want to be a full demon, I just want to be with you. I can use the jewel to become human if you want?”
“No Inuyasha, I love you just the way you are, not demon not human. I love you for you and the half demon half human blood that runs through your veins.” Inuyasha smiled and hugged Kagome tighter.
“We can become mates now and live here together. Do you want that Kagome?”
“More than anything, but I have to go back to the future and tell my family that I’m staying.” Inuyasha nodded and turned to Sesshomaru.
“Thank you for all your help Sesshomaru.” Sesshomaru nodded and glanced at Kagome.
“Yes, thank you for everything Sesshomaru.”
“Indeed. Who is the woman that Naraku had sealed in his talisman?”
“Oh the girl! I almost forgot about her!” Kagome pushed out of Inuyasha’s embrace and ran over to where Sango sat with Miroku and the miko. “Sango, how is she?”
“She’s starting to wake up Kagome.” Kagome knelt down next to the woman whose eyes were fluttering open. When they finally opened Kagome surprised to see that they were a beautiful stormy gray color. The woman jumped back and prepared to try and defend herself.
Kagome reached out to her gently and spoke softly. “Don’t worry you’re safe now. Naraku is dead and we’re here to help. My name is Kagome, what’s your name?”
“My name is Nayoko. You defeated Naraku?”
“That’s right. How did you get trapped by Naraku?”
“He came looking for me and captured me. It was almost as if he knew exactly how to overpower me.”
“Well Nayoko, why don’t you come with us to our friend Kaede’s village?”
“Okay, thank you for your kindness.” Kagome nodded and helped the miko to her feet only to have to try and keep her from falling. Sesshomaru rushed over and caught the miko before she and Kagome could hit the ground.
“Thank you Sesshomaru.” He nodded and lifted the miko bridal style in his strong arms.
“You said that you are going to take her to the village you stay in?”
“Yes, will you carry Nayoko back to the village Sesshomaru?”
“Yes. Let’s go now.” Kagome felt Inuyasha lifting her into his arms as the group prepared to head back to Kaede’s. Sango helped Miroku onto the back of a now transformed Kirara and took to the skies. Sesshomaru formed his cloud beneath his feet and took flight as well. Inuyasha began running and jumping off tree branches while holding Kagome bridal style. Sesshomaru glanced down at the miko that was in his arms. She had a beautiful face and the longest silkiest raven hair he had ever seen. His amber eyes drifted downward until they noticed the black cross and pale blue crescent moon embroidered on her shirt. ‘ That marking, I’ve seen it somewhere before! But where? I shall pay a visit to my study and go through my ancient scrolls when I return to my palace. I have seen that marking on one of the scrolls in my study, there is no mistake about that.’
A/N: Tell me what you think so far? I wanted to kind of make this a suspenseful epic about a priestess who isn’t exactly what she seems. Please read and review!
