The Pain of Eternity
Chapter 1
Kagome watched as her 'other self' disappeared into the shrine that housed the well........and there he was. Tall and beautiful, with his long, white hair billowing behind him in the breeze. Inuyasha followed the other Kagome into the well, and he was gone too. Back to his own time. They wouldn't come back to this time again for another two weeks.. After the final confrontation with Naraku. How she wished she could go back to help them, but the well didn't work for her anymore. Miroku's death had nearly killed Sango, and she'd never married. The legacy of the great demon slayers died with her. As much as she wanted to change things, she was.....not glad, but.....satisfied with the way the battle turned out. Inuyasha survived, and that was all that mattered to her. Not that she didn't care for her friends, but.....her love.....
Kagome leaned back from the high powered telescope she'd been looking through, sighing loudly in the silence. She wished, more than anything in this world, that she could get closer, that she could touch him, and hold him close again. It was too risky, though. She couldn't take the chance that Inuyasha would see her, or catch her scent. Kagome rose from her chair, and walked to the two swords mounted on the wall of her small apartment, reaching out to caress the sheath of the bottom one. Tetsusaiga. It warmed to her touch, recognizing her aura. The sword hanging above, gave a very audible snort, as the Sword Keeper vaporized from the sheath, solidifying to his half transparent state to sneer at her.
"I wish you'd carress me like that."
Kagome ignored him, still trying to deal with her emotions at seeing Inuyasha again. She'd been watching the first time he'd jumped from the well to behold the future. She hadn't thought to feel it as fiercely as she had. All the love that she had pushed to the back of her mind, all the emotions she had learned to control over the centuries, had all come screaming back with an intensity she hadn't been prepared for. Tears were again streaming down her cheeks. She half laughed, wiping her face with the back of her hand. She hadn't cried since the day Inuyasha had died.
"Are you crying again?"
Kagome turned to look at her companion, giving him a half-hearted smile. He'd been the only 'person' keeping her sane all these centuries. He was also quite the pervert, which was good for a laugh now and again.
"What do you expect?" Kagome said, sniffing again. "I think it hurts worse knowing what's going to happen." She turned back to stand in the window, staring out in the direction of her family home.
"Will we be staying here awhile then?" he asked. She could hear the slightest hint of irritation in his voice. He didn't like to stay anyplace for a long length of time. After ten years or so, he'd get bored, and ansy to move on.
"I guess we could travel for the next five years. I am coming back here, though, when they.....we..(sigh)...whatever. You know what I mean. I want to see Kyoji one last time. Then I'm done with it."
She wanted to stay, so badly. 'Her' and Inuyasha will be married at the shrine in another two years. She wanted to see the wedding.....again. She sat down in the chair, very weary from the battle going on in her head. Perhaps her friend was right. It was probably for the best that she not see anymore. Her sanity seemed to be hanging by a thread, lately, as it was.
"We could go looking, again." He offered, quietly.
"Are you so intent on bringing about the doom of the world, then?" Kagome asked, getting a bit irritated herself. She hated when he brought this up.
"If he's sealed, then what's to worry about? I could see being concerned if he was still alive, but he's not. Besides, I haven't seen Tensseiga in a loooong time."
"And what if Tetsusaiga's presence breaks the seal? You remember the scroll. 'Sealed within it's healing warmth, a demon rests, to awaken when the legacy of his ancestors draws near Y You know as well as I what that pertains to."
"You can't be sure that it is talking about Tetsusaiga."
"Look, we've been through this a million times over the last century. Just drop it."
Amazingly enough, he shut up. Kagome covered her eyes with her hand, trying, vainly it seemed, to block out the pounding that had just started in her skull. Why was he so intent on finding Tensseiga? If all three of Inuyasha's father's swords were together again, what would happen? She was pretty sure the scroll she'd found a hundred years ago told it all. The seal binding Sesshoumaru to Tensseiga would break, allowing him to live again. And then, what would he do? Be pretty pissed off, she was sure. And how would he react if he found out Kagome had possession of both Tetsusaigga and Sou'unga? No, it was better this way. As much as she wanted to kill Sesshoumaru with her own two hands, to spill every drop of his blood herself, it was better that he remained sealed. He was far too dangerous to be let loose in this modern world.
"How about a movie?" The Keeper asked. Kagome smiled a little. The Keeper of a centuries old sword, with the reputed power to rip holes in the very fabric of the universe, loved action movies. Kagome got up from her chair, and grabbed her purse.
"There are a couple of new ones that just came to the video store yesterday. What did you want to see?"
"Is that new one with Russel Crowe out yet? The one where he plays the captain of a clipper ship?"
"Master and Commander?" He nodded yes. "I think it is. If not, what other one?" Kagome moved to the front door to put on her shoes.
"Uuuummmm.....Oooo, what about that Kill Bill Volume 1. We haven't seen that yet." Kagome laughed out loud at that one.
"As long as the movie has a sword in it, right? Are you interested in the actual movie, or just the swords?" Her friend shrugged his shoulders, looking a little sheepish. "Alright then. I'll be back in a little while. Hold down the fort, will ya?"
"As always." He bowed as best he was able, considering he was floating in the air, and the bottom half of him was permanently connected to Sou'unga. Kagome shook her head, closing and locking the front door behind her. He was, indeed, a great friend, and had, once again, managed to lighten her mood. What would she do without him?

Floating. But where? And how long? There was no sense of the passage of time here, wherever here was. No days. No nights. No summers, or winters. Nothing but a void of neverending, swirling colors. And who was he? He couldn't remember, but he knew that this was not right. He shouldn't be here. Somone had trapped him in here, and he couldn't escape. He couldn't even move. When would this torment end?
A/N : For those who don't know, Inuyasha's father fashioned three swords. The Tetsusaigga : A sword that could kill a hundred demons in one stroke. The Tensseiga : A sword that could heal a hundred beings in one stroke. The Sou'unga : From what I can gather, it can cut through the boundries from one world to the next. This sword makes it's appearance in Inuyasha's third movie. So what do you think? Let me know.
