Chapter1: Encounter

The young priestess Kikyou laid underneath a large leaf baring tree. It was midmorning and the sun was barely appearing over the horizon. She lay upon her black cloak that was given to her by a villager as she passed through it not to long ago to rest before setting off again. Kikyou opened her eyes and yawned softly as the sun’s rays poured over her body causing unwanted warmth. She sat up and stretched her body before looking around her scenery. The priestess was rather shocked to find out that she had over slept. She usually traveled way before the sun arose but she must’ve just lost track in her sleep. Kikyou lifted herself to her feet and picked up her cloak she put it on to conceal her weapons from sight. As she ran rapidly through the forest she came upon what seemed to be some sort of wolf youkai lying on the ground either sleeping or unconscious she could not tell. As she drew nearer to this youkai she saw a few wounds and a rather small puddle of blood beneath it, she kneeled down beside male youkai and slipped off his armor that had been cracked some what. She examined his upper torso and saw gashes and bruises all over. The priestess got to her feet and grabbed the youkai from underneath his arms she slowly dragged his body down a pathway to a near by lake she laid his body down completely and placed her cloak underneath his head so if there was any bleeding it wouldn’t go to his throat and cause him to choke. She then made sure he wasn’t going anywhere before she got up and searched for some herbs and leaves, once finding the most potent ones she could she rushed back to him and knelt down beside him once more. Kikyou cleansed her hands in the water for cupping water into her hands and pouring it over his wounds to clean them before applying the herbs. Once she finished apply the herbs she covered them with a few leasincsince she had nothing else around, she then stayed by his side and waited for him to awaken to make sure he was alright before heading off once more. As she sat there she had nothing better to do than to study his breathing and pulse and his features more closely.
A few hours had passed and Kikyou had already started a fire to keep them both warm. She had sat there with her back to the wolf youkai as she washed her hands and face to remain awake, even though she was exhausted. As she did this she hadn’t noticed that the youkai was stirring lightly in his now sleep state. Once she finished she sat there staring at the water but was quickly alarmed as she heard movement she quickly turned around and met a pair of medium orange red eyes. She moved back a bit and stared at him, He eyed her and began to push himself up but the pain in his upper torso caused him to hiss in pain and plop down on his back.
“Are you alright?” Kikyou asked softly while moving closer to him she extended her arms out toward him she bent down and examined his wounds closely. She then placed a new set of herbs and covered them with a fresh newly cleaned leaves.
He eyed her the whole time not saying a word. He had heard of a girl that was kind to all and helped those who were in need. From what he had experienced so far it confirmed that this young woman was none other than the priestess Kikyou who not to long ago patched up a few of wol wolves that had gone missing after a battle. “How did I get here? … Who are you? And why are you healing me?”
Kikyou’s gaze turned toward the wolf youkai’s face she stared at him for a few moments before answering any of his questions “Well ... You seemed to be passed out down the path not to far from here, so I decided to bring you here … patch up your wounds and then make sure you’re fine before I head off once more … My name is Kikyou … I am a Miko who protects the Shikon No Tama … and the reason I’m healing you is because I do care for all living things.” She paused for a few moments and stared at him in silence then asked “What is your name?”
He was shocked, he was correct this was the priestess Kikyou that he had heard so much about. The youkai noticed that the girl was sitting there waiting for an answer he cleared his throat some and finally answered her “My name is Wildfire, leader of my wolf tribe and warrior of the southern lands.”
Kikyou stared at him and nodded “Well I’m glad to see that you’re ds ads are healing rapidly which is normal for any youkai” She arose to her feet and dusted off her red pants and slipped on her sandals and stared at him “when you’re ready to get up and go just inform me so I can check your wounds once more … I’m going to go look for some more fire wood since this fire is becoming very dim”
Wildfire nodded his head and laid there gazing around up at the sky threw slit hues as his wounds began to prickle with slight pain he moved his hand up to his wounds and pushed away from the leaves. He lifted his head off the cloak and looked down he saw his wounds healing quickly. The youkai smirked at this and nodded “Looks like I will be away from here in a few minutes … then I can head out and finish off that damned half breed Inuyasha” he said in a low growl.
Kikyou returned with small twigs, medium sized branches and a piece of a tree trunk she set down the items and grabbed a few twigs and branches and began to feed the fire slowly and watch it build up once more. Since there was no talking amongst one another she just stared into the fire admiring the beautiful colors of orange, reds and yellows. She hadn’t noticed a pair of a orange red eyes staring at her through the flickering flames until they blinked she then realized that she was staring through the fire into this strange youkai’s eyes.
The priestess shifted her gaze else where and began to think she then looked toward the youkai who was already sitting up and had slipped on his cracked armor and furred gloves. She arched an eyebrow at him and blinked “You’re already going to leave?” with out a verbal answer her gave her a swift nod “Before you run off let me check your wounds” the youkai arose to his feet and stepped around the fire toward the girl. Kikyou got to her feet and took off the youkai’s armor she tossed it away and leaned in close to check to see how good his wounds had healed. She was quite taken back to see the the wounds were now only small barely noticed scars. The priestess shifted her gaze to the youkai’s eyes “Well you seem to be in a fabulous condition you are now able to go back to whatever you were doing.”
Wildfire nodded and bowed lightly “I thank you Miko Kikyou for your generosity and compassion for all who walk this earth” he straightened his form and turned on his heal “And thank you for healing my wolves a few weeks back I really appreciate it” he added before jumping into a tree and traveling with lightning quick speed in search of the hanyou Inuyasha.
Kikyou stood there watching the youkai until he was no longer in her sight range; she turned to the fire and began to put it out with dirt and water. Once the fire was out she grabbed her cloak once more she shook it lightly before putting it on once more this time to warm her up since the wind was picking up and it seemed to her that a storm was going to start. She had to find shelter quickly or she’d risk becoming ill if she hadn’t. The priestess took off in a gentle jog through the forest, as she did water began to fall furiously through out the entire forest. Kikyou continued to run seeking shelter she then found a semi-shady tree in which she sat under, since there were no villages near by she had to sit in the forest as rain beat down on her shivering body.
As day turned to night and gray clouds vanished along with the rain, a passing youkai noticed this girl underneath a tree soaked from head to toe unconscious it seems that she had grown ill from being out in the intense storm. The youkai picked up the girl in his arms and carried her off to a cave not to far away.
There he took the girl to the leader Wildfire, the leader already recognized her as the priestess Kikyou, he ordered for the other members of the tribe bring aid in getting her warm dry clothing and furs to keep her shivering body warm. Wildfire moved close to the miko once she was changed and wrapped in furs. He slid off his fur gloves and placed a hand upon the miko’s forehead and noticed she was burning up with a fever; her cheeks were rosy red and her hands and body still as cold as ice. The tribe members had already started a fire to keep the cave warm so that the priestess’s conditions didn’t worsen. As they sat around her as she lay there bundled up the furs like a helpless child. Her breaths were short and rapid as she slept, Wildfire knew she needed sort of remedy for her illness he sent off a few of his wolves to go search for herbs and so on for a liquid remedy that he was going to brew that he was positive that would heal the priestess within a few days.
The wolves nodded at once and ran out of the cave in search of the ingredients. Wildfire made his way toward the priestess he lifted her up into his arms, as he did, instantly his body became warm a Kikyou’s fever increased. He carried her off to his sleeping area and laid her down on a bed of furs and covered her with a cloth. The youkai sat down near the priestess and watched her closely as she slept. She turned gently in her sleep as the cave began to warm up. Since the sleeping area was isolated it kept Kikyou’s body warm.
Hours later the wolves returned with the ingredients, Wildfire took the items and headed over to a corner he sat down and began to crush and mix the ingredients toer, er, he added a bit of water and purplum berry juice in with potent herbs. The healing potion took him all night to create he then had to wait for a few hours and let it set into a syrupy substance. The youkai arose to his feet and made his down into the sleeping area to check up on the miko he knelt down beside the bed of furs he leaned in close to extended his hand toward the miko’s face his gently placed it upon her forehead, as he removed it he lowered his head and sighed deeply. Kikyou wasn’t improving and the syrup still needed a while before setting since it was still in is liquid state.
A few of the tribe members made their way over and peered over Wildfire’s shoulder down at the priestess, they frowned sat down beside their leader “Will the priestess kikyou be alright?” one asked while staring at Wildfire.
The youkai looked toward his comrade and nodded “She will be fine she was just out in the rain for too long and her body is trying to warm up her blood which is causing her to get a very high fever.” He got to his feet and turned toward the sleeping area exit “Lets go and let Kikyou rest, Kiba get my spare furs set up I’m going to be sleeping near the bed incase she awakens” The smaller youkai nodded and went off to do as he was ordered to do. “You two head to your posts immediately” the other two youkai’s got to their feet and rushed off to their posts which was outside guarding the cave. Wildfire turned around and looked down toward the priestess “Don’t worry Priestess Kikyou … you’re ine hae hands” he said while sitting down beside her watching her sleep and recover.
