Beyond the Darkness

WARNING: There will be LEMON in later chapters, so anyone under 18 stay away. I will place another warning right before the lemony goodness, so you have all been warned.
A/N: If you have not seen past episode 24 there may be some spoilers. Also, in the Japanese version the fire cat demon/neko-youkai Kilala is spelled Kirara so I am going with this spelling of her name.

It was one of the first nights of the fast approaching winter. The whole group had decided that tonight they would stay in the remains of Sango’s old village for protection against the harsh weather. As they reached the Taijiya village snow was beginning to fall from the dark sky.
“Wow it’s been so long since I’ve seen snow.” Shippo said as he danced in the flurries that fell from the sky. Kagome just giggled at her young friend. As she watched him play Kagome started to remember the past three years being in the feudal era. A lot had change, but there where things that would forever remain the same.
In the past three years many events had happened. Kagome was now 18 years old and become a very skilled warrior thanks to Sango’s slayer training. Even with all the trips to the feudal era she still managed to graduate from high school. She was still with all the group and they were still looking for the last parts of the Shikon jewel. Naraku was still tormenting them for the shards. Sango and Miroku had become closer and if she didn’t know better Kagome was starting to think that Sango was enjoying Miroku’s lecherous hand. Then of course they was Inuyasha. He was his arrogant/stubborn self as always, but things had changed between Inuyasha and herself. Inuyasha had been seeing Kikyo whenever he got a chance to run off with her. Kagome knew that his heart would always belong to the undead miko. It was hard at first but soon the pain of losing him to the undead priestess was replaced with great pity. She would always love Inuyasha, but the time that they could have been together was long gone.
“Alright come on Shippo lets get inside before we catch our death out here.” Kagome called toward him as she followed the others into the hut.
“Feh, let the little runt stay out there maybe we will get lucky and something will get him so I can have his ramen.” Inuyasha said sarcastically.
“Inuyasha, Sit boy!” Kagome commanded. As she spoke the words Inuyasha fell flat on his face. As he laid there Shippo jumped on his head proudly squishing his face into the ground.
After arguing over who would get more ramen the whole group settled in for the cold long night. Sango, Kirara, and Kagome slept in the same room with Inuyasha, Shippo, and Miroku in another.
As they all slept Kirara awoke and sniffed the air. The small fire cat demon moved towards Kagome. She quietly woke Kagome using her paws. Kagome wiped her eyes and looked down at the small youkai.
“What is it Kirara?” she questioned softly trying not to wake Sango.
Kirara moved over towards Kagome’s clothes and motioned for her to put them on. Kagome did as she was instructed. After dressing Kirara meowed for Kagome to follow her outside.
Kagome didn’t know what to think of Kirara’s actions, but for some reason she knew she should follow her. ‘What is so important to Kirara that she is taking me out in the middle of the night?’
As they left the hut Kagome looked back to see if Inuyasha had heard them leave. When she saw no sign of him she shrugged and continued to follow the fire cat.
They ended up in the cave that the slayers had protected with a shield. They passed through the barrier shield without any problems.
“I remember this place. This is Midoriko’s cave.” Kagome said as she walked towards the stalagmite statue of the fallen warrior miko.
All of a sudden a bright light filled the cave slightly blinding them. When the light dimmed Midoriko herself was standing right in front of them both. Instinctively Kirara jumped into her former mistress’s arms.
“Aww Kirara, it is good to see you old friend. Thank you for bringing Kagome here.” Midoriko said softly stroking the small youkai’s back.
“So why did you want to see me?” Kagome questioned.
“Because young Kagome you have a great destiny to fulfill, and now you must become the person you were born to be.” Midoriko said while Kirara jumped from her arms.
“What are you talking about? I’m just Kikyo’s reincarnation. I’m nothing special.” Kagome answered back.
“That’s were you are wrong. You are not Kikyo’s incarnation. You are mine. You are destined to continue where I left off. That is why the Shikon jewel was inside of you. You have my power you just have not had the chance to release it.” Midoriko said while placing her hands on Kagome’s face. “You are destined for more, you are mine incarnation and with that comes great power, the power to purify all evil.” with that said the cave began to fill with a pink light.
As the pink light surrounded them a white/gold light began to come from Midoriko. The light began to grow, then it left Midoriko and pass through her hands into Kagome. Kagome gasped as the light and power entered her body. It felt like her blood was on fire. She took a step back in shock at the new feeling that coursed through out her body.
“What did you do to me?” Kagome said breathlessly.
“I have awakened the power you need to fulfill your destiny.” Midoriko said proudly.
“For every beginning there is an end, and that end is coming. You are the one person who can stop what is to come.” She said in a sad tone.
“What is coming?” she asked.
“Naraku. He is growing in power everyday with the help of the jewel shards. The only way to kill him now is through the power of purification. A power which you hold.” Midoriko said solemnly as she walked around Kagome.
“But you can not do it alone. And Inuyasha will not be able to help you. For in the end he will not choose you to stand by. Yet there is one, one that is worthy of your love and respect. This someone will have your back in the harsh times to come.” She spoke softly and direct to Kagome.
“Who is ‘this’ someone you speak of?” Kagome questioned a little uneasy about what the dead miko was telling her.
“You will meet him soon. This is all I can say on that matter. But it is time for you to split from your group. You are no longer safe being with them. Right now you should concentrate on looking for the remainder of the Shikon jewel on your own.” She said while looking down at the fire car youkai.
“Kirara had decided to accept my offer and therefore become your new guardian. She will help protect you while you are alone. But I have a feeling that you will not be alone for long.” Midoriko said with a smile on her face. Kagome did not miss this. “What are you not telling me? Kagome said with the same mischievous smile. Midoriko said nothing while turning to walk back to where her statue had been. Like before the cave was filled with the same bright light and as it died down the live Midoriko was replaced with the stalagmite statue. ‘Thank you’ Kagome said in her head knowing somehow that Midoriko could hear her.
