The Taste of True Love       
                                                       

Chapter 1 – The
Spell                                                              

             Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru are
at it again! Kagome thought to herself as she stepped into the clearing that
they were fighting in.  When will they give it a rest?  Sango and Miroku
walked up behind Kagome, shaking their heads in the same baffled manner that
Kagome was experiencing.  They all sat down by a large willow tree and watched
the two half-brothers battle it out.  Inuyasha’s three companions had learned
long ago to stay out of his and Sesshoumaru’s fights.  What they did not notice
however was a small demon fairy that appeared across the clearing from them. 

            The demon fairy was called
Konoko, a tiny female that had the ability to effect the emotions of those she
chose.  Rarely did she interfere with situations such as the one before her,
sibling dysfunction, but she was very curious as to the reasoning behind their
warring tempers.  Konoko used her magical powers to see beyond the actions and
peer into the emotions driving Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru.  It appeared that they
were both very lonely in their demon powers and would greatly benefit from
loving and adoring their true loves.  The fairy delved farther and found that
both brothers already had their true loves near them, they just had not acted
upon their feelings.   

            Noticing that they were dog
demons, she created a spell that would work best to bring out their truest
desires.  Konoko smiled and whizzed her magic wand in the air bestowing a
gracious gift on Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru.

             Upon
first scent of their true love’s desire
            Shall these demons weaken
their resolve

           
Obsessed with the taste and
scent of their love

            Till they reveal their
deepest heart’s feeling  

            And act without fear or be
forever lost 

            Konoko was very pleased with
herself and watched as the dog demons were enveloped in a shimmering pink
light.  Kagome, Sango and Miroku also noticed the strange lights and called to
Inuyasha.  Both he and Sesshoumaru stopped mid swing to find themselves
glowing.   

            “What the hell is this?” 
Inuyasha barked jumping around in attempt to get away from the light. 
Sesshoumaru stood very still and used his acute sense of smell and hearing to
determine what the mist was.  How very strange, yet there is no smell to it
other than that of water like a rain cloud.  “Inuyasha!  Be still!”  He
called out to his half-brother who was still prancing around trying to beat the
cloud off.  “What is this?” Inuyasha demanded. 

            Before Sesshoumaru could
respond, the misty lights began to fade and dissipated into the air.  Kagome ran
out to Inuyasha to make sure he was okay.  “Inuyasha?  What was that?  I’ve
never seen anything like it before.  Are you okay?”  Kagome asked with concern. 
“I’m fine I guess, hey Sesshoumaru…what was that?” 

            “I do not know.  I could not
decipher its origin or purpose.  However, I do not feel any different as of
yet.  But I would watch for any sudden changes because I do not believe it was
nothing at all.”  Sesshoumaru felt very invaded by the mist and did not like the
way it made him feel. He decided to end his fight with Inuyasha for the day and
depart for his castle so he could think this unusual turn of events through more
carefully.  “Until we cross paths again Inuyasha…”  and with that Sesshoumaru
flew off leaving the Inuyasha gang to their own speculation. 

            Upon return to his home,
Sesshoumaru immediately sent for two demon lords that he considered partial
allies.  He was hoping they would know something about the bizarre pink light or
at least have a better idea than he did about it.  He had settled into a
high-backed chair in his study when the door pushed open and he heard little
footsteps running across the room.  The human child, Rin, which he had in his
care grabbed hold of his leg with an enormous smile across her face. 
“Sesshoumaru!  You are back, Rin missed you very much!”  He pulled her up into
his lap and lightly patted her head.  “Yes Rin, I have returned.” 

          
He smiled inwardly but his face showed no emotion.  Rin was the only thing that
gave him that strange emotional tug at what he could only guess was his heart. 
His desire to protect her was great and confused him since he did not like
humans.  His thoughts drifted back to the eerie pink light while Rin quietly sat
in his lap, happy to be near him. 

A few months
later, Sesshoumaru gave up on trying to figure out what the pink light had
been.  After speaking to many other demon lords and doing research he had come
up with nothing.  He never bothered to discuss it with Inuyasha, assuming he
would not understand it either.  Months passed into years and the pink light
faded from Sesshoumaru’s memory.
