Summary: A twist on why Inuyasha is the only who can travel the same as Kagome through the well.

Chapter 1: Stupid Mutt!

~Normal POV~

‘I can understand Inuyasha’s obsession for Kikyou, I really can. But does he have to run after her every time he thinks he catches a glimpse of her. I mean that episode today was embarrassing. Thank god the town council’s daughter had a sense of humor.’ Kagome seethed as she stomped towards the bone eater’s well. ‘I only wish that he’d realize what a fool of himself he’s making.’

Said fool was yelling at Kagome for a) ‘sit’ing him and b) for thinking that she, the shard detector, could go home to her time. “Get back here Kagome! We don’t have time for you to do this!”

“Oh, really Inuyasha?” Kagome asked with a thoughtful look on her face. (uh oh. Inuyasha better watch out).

“Yeah, really.” Inuyasha sneered.

“AS LONG AS YOU HAVE TIME TO MAKE A FOOL OF YOURSELF. I THINK THAT I HAVE THE RIGHT TO GO HOME FOR A FEW DAYS!! Oh and by the way, don’t bother following me or I’ll have you so far down into the ground that most will think you dead. ‘Like I’m going to let some stupid mutt tell me what to do. Hah! Besides, it’s not like they can’t do without me for a few days, what with no shards being nearby and everything.’

“SIT!” After hearing the satisfying thump of body to ground, Kagome jumped into the well.

Inuyasha got up and was about to follow her, but thought that a few minutes wouldn’t hurt to calm her down. Still, he did go to the edge of the well and made sure she made it to the other side with no mishaps.

*******On the other side of the well*******

‘Why do I get so angry with him. Oh yeah. He’s rude, overbearing, possessive and obsessed.’ Kagome was still mumbling underneath her breath when she entered her house.

“Mom!, Souta!, Grandpa! I’m home!”

“Kagome?!” Kagome’s mother yells from the kitchen.

Kagome walks towards the kitchen; leans against the opposite side of the counter, grabs an apple out of the fruit bowl on the counter and mumbles around her full mouth,” What, mom?”

“Kagome! How many times do I have to tell you. Swallow then speak. I’m glad your home. Your teachers have been calling non-stop. If you don’t start going to school and catch up with all of your school work, you’ll probably have to repeat a grade. Stop! (Kagome had tried to interrupt) I don’t want to hear how important you are to your adventures with your friends from the past. Just get upstairs and start on the monstrous pile of work that your teachers were so kind to have dropped by. (Kagome gave her mom a pout with a sad look and started chewing on the apple again) Now! Kagome!” Kagome’s mom shoed her wayward daughter up the stairs.

“Fine!” Sheesh, you would think that being the only one of the family able to travel to the past and find shards of the shikon jewel would generate some kind of respect. But noo! I have to keep it a secret and everyone at school believes that I have contracted a multitude of diseases. I soo love my life.

Kagome stomps into her room and slams the door behind her. Her jaw drops slightly at the overwhelming mass of work before her. It seems as if the school has divested their supple of paper to her. Boxes upon boxes were piled along the walls to her bedroom. ’No wonder mom was kind of pissy. Might as well try to get some of it done.’

Kagome pulls the the lid of one of the boxes nearest her desk and slaps it on the desk. She plops down into the seat, gives a resigned sigh, grabs a pencil out of its holder in the corner of her desk and starts to write on said paper.

Well she tried anyway. First she got distracted by the heat in the room, so she went to go open the window. Then she saw that her room could use some cleaning so she picked up the clothes off the floor and put everything where it was supposed to go. By the time she was done distracting herself, dinner was ready to be served.

“Kagome! (Kagome’s mom calls up the stairs) Come help me set the table!”

“Kay! I’ll be right down!” Kagome looks guiltily at the homework on her desk but heads downstairs anyway.

Kagome’s mom was already setting up the table with plates and chopsticks by the time Kagome made it into the dininea. ea.

“Did you start your homework?”

“Yeah.”

“Maybe I could talk to your teachers and see if they could help you out a little bit, seeing as how you’ve missed so much school. (Kagome looked at her mom gratefully) If I do this, and I do mean if, you’ve got to promise to come home more often so that you can go to school every once in a while.”

“But mom! How-”

“Well you did say the jewel was almost complete. Just collect a shard of the jewel more often and then hom home more often. Doesn’t sound so difficult tome.”

“Mom? Have you ever fought a demon.”

“No, but I’m sure you’ll do just fine sweety. All I’m asking is that you just try to make it home more often. Besides I’m not sure Grandpa has any more diseases up his sleeve.”

“Since you put it that way..” Kagome trails off dejectedly.

“Kagome? Why don’t you go get your brother and grandfather and let them know that dinner is ready?”

Kagome leaves the dining area.

We come back to the whole family eating at the table. No one speaks and Kagome barely touches her meal.

“Can I be excused?” Before anyone can answer she gets up and puts her dishes in the sink and then slowly walks up the stairs towards her bedroom. She pushes open the door and flops into her bed. Not even bothering to change into her night clothes before she cuddles into her pillow and blankets. Her last thought before sleep is ‘I could try. I mean Inuyasha won’t like it, but I do need to come back more often.’

******Back in Feudal Japan******

Inuyasha had had the intention of following Kagome after a few moments, but the smell of food deterred him. We can see Inuyasha run toward Kaede’s hut and gobble down the food as fast as he can. No etiquette here. The others are just staring at him. Inuyasha finally notices.

“What?!”

The group puts their heads down and mumble nothing, but we see the sweat drops form anyway.

Miroku st up up and heads toward the door.

“Where are you going Miroku?”

“My deal Lady Sango, I have to relieve myself as much as anyone else does.” However, this is just a prearranged excuse for Miroku to slip away and put some wards over the well so that Inuyasha could leave Kagome alone for a few days.

Miroku’s out the door and on his way to the bone eater’s well with note that tells Kagome what they have done.

‘As much as I like Kagome and Inuyasha it would be nice to have some respite.’

Miroku puts the wards on the well and heads back to the hut. ‘I hope that Inuyasha will understand. I don’t really wish to have my life in jeopardy.’

Miroku opens the door to the hut, but Inuyasha is no where in sight.

“He left already to go get Kagome. Didn’t you see him?”

“Actually no. I wonder if he passed through before I put the wards on the well.”

“I suppose we’ll be finding out shortly.”
